The Disk Dictionary is the revived version of the Teff Dictionary, created by H*R Wiki Forum user TheExperimentalFilm years ago. While the Teff Dictionary was informative, it slowly stopped updating, and it began to go out of date. With the deletion of Off Subject, Getting to Know You, and Arts and Crafts topics on August 16, 2007 (see: The Purge), I decided to bring this back with the help of Google Cache. Since that time, the layout has been updated to be easier to read and use, different content sections have been created, new entries have been added, and some older entries have been updated.
This is far from being done, but with the help of all of you suggesting things, this can turn into a collaborative project that can get most of the information about things throughout this awesome Forum's history. If you would like to suggest things for the dictionary, then please attempt to provide as much information as possible about the suggested entries (anything from the entry's description to a simple related link will do). I may not add everything suggested, and suggestions with more information provided will have a higher chance of being added in at a quicker rate.
I hope that this dictionary and the time I've put into updating it can be used by many on this forum for numerous reasons. For instance, I hope that new users are able to clear any confusion that may surround them about this Forum by using the Dictionary. All-in-all, it's pretty much the most information-packed topic you're bound to read here, and I thank you for taking the time to look over it.

Administrators / Moderators
Administrators and moderators are the authority of the forum. They help in conflicts, and can perform many actions to the forum to make it a cleaner and better place. To distinguish themselves from other users, they have words or phrases underneath their username in posts (called either Ranks or Titles). Ranks/Titles are also occasionally given to regular members on very special occasions. An example of this is user named iand93, who received "Secret Santa Rank!" after the 2nd Annual H*R Wiki Forum Secret Santa Exchange of Awesome. Retired admins and mods also may hold onto their Ranks.
Moderators are the lower authority for the forum. Unlike administrators, moderators can only moderate specific boards to keep the work load down on them. While they have authority throughout the entire forum, they can lock topics, merge similar topics, move topics to different forums, and edit users' posts in their assigned forums. The moderators were given more authority in December of 2007, when they were assigned to one of two different Mod Groups (whose names will change every month). The current moderators are: Capt. Ido Nos, ed 'lim' smilde, IantheGecko, Lunar Jesty, Acekirby, furrykef, Inverse Tiger, and Ju Ju Master. All of them are active.
Administrators are the higher authority for the forum. They can do everything that moderators can do, along with access the Administration Panel, a place that lets them change around the entire forum. The Admin Team currently has seven members: Stu, AgentSeethroo, It's dot com, JoeyDay, ramrod, StrongRad, and Tom. As of December 2007, the most active members of the Admin Team are ramrod and StrongRad. They can be PMed to be notified about certain topics or users which require assistance.

Announcements are vital information regarding forums, and appear at the very top of every forum (the icon next to them looks like
). The only true announcements that the forum have are for the H*R Wiki Forum rules.

Auto-pruning:
Auto-pruning was a function of phpBB 2.0 that existed on the forums back in the Summer of 2005. Because the Forum Games section was bursting with posts (it had the highest number of posts for any Forum section at the time), the administrators decided to enable this feature to delete any topics not posted in for two weeks. The first response to this was confusion--the users of the forum had no idea why their older posts of the forum were deleted. When the administrators explained what had happened, the users became upset. After several months of negativity towards the feature, it was disabled and has yet to return.

Avatar:
An avatar is an image that appears under your username for all of your posts. You can choose to either upload it to the forum's server, or link it off of another website (i.e. Imageshack and Photobucket). As stated in the H*R Wiki Forum rules, avatars may not be any larger than 100x100 pixels in dimension, or be greater than 10 KB in size. Animated avatars are allowed, but they must fit under these requirements. PNG files are usually recommended for avatars, as they contain great image quality at a small image size.

Ban:
A ban is an action that only administrators can do. If a user is continuously breaking the rules despite administrator/moderator notification, his or her account may be temporarily disabled. Bans can occur by the user's IP address, their account (username), or their e-mail address, and they usually last for an extended period of time due to their rarity. Several bans have been appealed/lifted. A few conflicts have occurred with bans that make it appear that an administrator is banning people for no reason. These conflicts are usually resolved immediately.

Banner/Signature:
Banners/Signatures (usually called "signatures") are images that can be placed under each of your posts. Unlike avatars, you may only link signatures off of another website (i.e. Imageshack and Photobucket). As stated in the H*R Wiki Forum rules, signatures may not be any larger than 500x100 pixels in dimension and may be no more than 65 KB in size. Animated signatures are allowed, but they must fit under these requirements. PNG files are usually recommended for signatures, as they contain great image quality at a small image size.

BB Code:
BB Code is a markup language used on many message boards. It is simple to learn and use, and can change the way your posts are interpreted through the use of bolding, italicizing, underlining, coloring, and changing the size of text. With BB Code, you can also post links, add images, and more. Here is a quick rundown of the main BB Code functions:

Double Post:
A double post are two posts by the same user that are back-to-back, meaning that there are no replies by other users between them. According to the rules of the H*R Wiki Forum, double posts that are less than three hours apart are frowned upon. You have the ability to edit a post as much as you want, so any additional information you'd like to add to a topic can easily be edited into posts if nobody else has posted in the topic after you.

Emoticons:
An emoticon, otherwise known as a "smiley", is an image used to display a specific emotion. The H*R Wiki Forum uses a combination of the standard phpBB 2.0 emoticons, several edited icons from the phpBB set, and numerous Homestar Runner-based ones. The following is the current list of emoticons:

Flame/ Flaming:
Flaming is when you disrespect or verbally harm ("bash") another user after they have said something.
Example: "What, are you stupid or something!? You must be a crazy idiot to think like that!"

Gabbly:
Gabbly is chatting interface much like IRC, except that it is built into the webpage that you're viewing (in the case of this Forum, the Forum main page). It required the web browser Mozilla Firefox in order to run properly, and is barely used nowadays just like the IRC.

Interests:
The Interests section of your profile can only be viewed from the "View Profile" page. Basically, you state your interests, whether being real or sarcastic.

IRC:
The IRC is a chat channel on the main Homestar Runner Wiki that used to be used for Forum-related events (chat channel parties were sometimes held on Mondays and Fridays at specific times, usually stated along the top of the Wiki's main page). The IRC was also used during The Purge and at the end of specific Forum Awards for discussions and award ceremonies. The IRC in the last couple of years has phased out of existence in the eyes of Forumers, and for a brief period of time, replaced by another chatting program called Gabbly.

Location:
The Location section of your profile can be viewed under your avatar for each of your posts. Most users' locations are not serious at all, and sometimes don't even describe a location.

Locked Topics:
Locked topics are topics that can no longer be posted in by regular users, only by administrators and moderators. Topics can be locked for many reasons: they may be announcements or stickies by the administration team that don't require replies, topics that have been discussed to their maximum point, topics that steer too far off-topic, and topics that have been requested to be locked by their creator.

Lurk/ Lurkers:
To lurk means to only browse through message board content and never regularly post. Lurkers are people who lurk.
Lurking may simply mean to look over a great deal of message board content as well.

Merge:
The ability to merge a topic can be done by both Administrators and Moderators. If a topic has been brought up in the past on the Forum, the posts within it will sometimes be combined with the older, larger topic.

Occupation:
The Occupation section of your profile can only be viewed from the "View Profile" page. Basically, you state your occupation, whether being real or sarcastic.

Password:
A password is the protection that your account has from other people accessing it. Passwords should be complex enough for other people to not think of, but easy enough for you to remember. It is recommended for passwords to be made up of both letters and numbers as well, and not composed of just random keys from the keyboard. You may also want to change it on a somewhat-regular basis.
An example of a bad password is 'Password'.
An example of a good password is 'AGoodPassword757'

Private Message (PM):
A Private Message is a message that can only be read by the user who it is sent to; it is the email system of message boards. Messages can be of any length, and can be about nearly any subject. Private Message space is limited, though. Users may only store 50 messages from other users, 25 to other users, and 50 saved ones.

Regular:
A regular is a person who posts on a message board frequently. Not posting frequently may make you a lurker.

Rotator:
A Rotator is a series of avatars or signatures that change after a different page is viewed or when the page is refreshed. These are good for the users who would like to have more than one avatar or signature at a time, or who cannot fit an animated avatar or signature to the rule requirements. Please note that all avatars and signatures in the rotators must be within the rule limits.

e. Advertisements or promotions. Non-profit plugs are allowed in the designated thread
f. Double-posts that are not at least three hours apart.
g. Posts made only to steer a thread back on-subject. If you'd like the thread to get back on topic, make a legitimate on-topic post. If a conflict is holding up the discussion, PM a mod or admin.
The exact definition of spam is not limited to the above, and is to be determined by the admins and moderators.

Split:
To split a topic means to separate some of its posts to different topics. This can sometimes be used for separate discussions that appear within topics.

Troll; Trolling
Trolling means to post on a message board just to cause trouble. For instance, a user may make negative posts to other users and try to steer the topic at hand in a different direction. A troll is a user who trolls (yay!).

Username:
A username is your own personal name for the forum. It can be anything you'd like, as long as it's rule-friendly. On January 8, 2006, usernames could no longer be changed once they were registered. Before then, usernames were sometimes changed on a regular basis to celebrate holidays or related events. With the new rule in place, it became much easier to know who each user was without their name changing regularly.

This is a place to post games that can be achieved through the message board system (i.e. picture games, text games). Post count on this board is not counted due to simple replies to some topics (for example, a picture game may ask for just one picture per post that may not have a lot of meaning behind it). During the summer of 2005, a feature called "auto-prunning" was enabled that deleted topics that had not been replied in for over a couple weeks' time (see: Auto-Pruning). The auto-pruning feature was quickly disabled.

The HRWiki catch-phrase; the top dog; the big cheese. Coined by AgentSeethroo. Literally, the noise of screaming and vomiting from fear. This phrase occurred mainly after the following dialogue:
"There's nobody [verb]-ing that [verb]!"
AAAARRRRRGGGGLLLBLBLLBLBL!!! -ing will then occur.

Folding Chair of Thwacky [+3]
An instrument of punishment used by user Didymus. It is a folding chair that Didymus smacked people with after they did something unacceptable. Sometimes the suffix [+3] was added in because A) the unacceptable action was really lame, and/or B ) RPGs are sometimes fun.

HRWiki Forum Bible:
The HRWiki Forum Bible was a creation by Acekirby that covered all major topics of the Forum at the time, including the Baby Strongbad fad, the SCARMY, AAAARRRRRGGGGLLLBLBLLBLBL!!!, and the Yar vs. Yarr debate. While it was deleted in The Purge, it was revived by user Strongfan only to be met with negativity (Ace wouldn't have the ability to edit it with new information since Strongfan recreated it). Acekirby may or may not make another version of the Bible in the future.
Seriously, what type of jerk takes peoples' old topics and revives them? That person must really suck. We should hang him.

iSketch was a popular Flash-based internet game played by members from 2005 to 2007, when it lost popularity immensely. It is Pictionary, but online! This game was actually quite fun, and took many hours of peoples' lives away. Maybe it'll make a comeback someday...

Kidlet Forest:
Coined by Queenie-C. Refers to an island forest, where male minors are sent when they lech (see below) an older female. Sometimes called "enchanted kidlet forest". A couple "Lech Licenses" were handed out early in its existence that allowed for certain minors to lech.

Back in 2005, Dark Grapefruit has an obsession with pants. Whenever a new user would join, their pants had a 99.9% chance of being taken.

Coined by DanBo. StrongCanada's personal army, includes most of the active forumgoers. There were three major divisions of it: the SCARMY (obviously), the SCAR Naval, and the SCAIR Force. This was the original army, all of the others were copies of it.

Sisterhood:
Coined by Queenie-C, proper name: The HRWiki Sisterhood. A group of female users, including every single woman/girl on the Forum. They were pretty powerful back in the day.

Stu's Backyard:
Stu's Backyard was once a very common location for HR Wiki Forum residents. It is apparently very large on the internet (many locations have shown it to hold numerous things), though nonexistant in real life (Stu's secret hideout is in an apartment). The fad of a location involving this has died down over time.

The Dress:
The Dress is the name of an image that Ramrod posted back in 2005 of him in a dress. It was made as part of a bet by ThatCinnamonRolls (I think that was the user, anybody want to correct me?). The posting of this image freaked many users out, and was brought up repeatedly in the future months and years. Ramrod eventually got annoyed over it being brought up so many times.

Bagged milk is what it exactly sounds like: milk in a bag. Used regularly on the Forum for a short period of time; still brought up from time-to-time. Canada apparently uses this type of milk a lot.

Suffix, added to pretty much anything to show an action. Derived from Teen Girl Squad on the Homestar Runner website.

Facepalm:
A "facepalm" is pretty much an acted out version of the word "Ugh..." It involves placing one's hand over their face in disbelief for somebody saying something either incredibly obvious or stupid for the moment. Usually used with an image, but sometimes just shown as *facepalm*. Facepalms were used quite extensively for a period of time, sometimes aggrivating the admins and mods. Their use has since become less common.
