No, the high e popped out completely, the bottom of the string stayed in the bridge.
Basically, I snapped it really, really low...

Wait wait wait, So the string is broken and Useless?

Okay, you're gonna want to get a new High E string, I prefer Ernie Balls but they arent good for tremolo bridges, so I'd suggest D'Addario's then.
You can learn to string a guitar here, and this is actually the best way to string it because it locks your string in tune, and takes alot of wear to make it go out of tune.

It's not that part I'm worried about, I've never restrung on this kind of bridge before.
Edit: I think I have it.
Take off the nut at the end of the bridge, take off the end of the string, put it in, loop it through the post on the other end, tune it, cut off excess.
Wow. Not that hard, surprisingly.

I thought tuning locks was the definition of a Floyd Rose bridge...

I thought most tremolo bridges were considered Floyd Rose.
But I was wrong.
I get over it.

This thread must be bumped. To make it seem less spammy:

Code:
G|------5----------
D|-------------7---
A|---6-5--------6-5
E|5-7--------------

Whoo-hoo! Uncreativeness!

No. I just write it as basically as I can, which confuses most people.

The timing's a little weird, but I get the gist of it.
I'd record a drum beat to go along with it, but it's 11:00 and my mom's cranky. Also, I don't have a good mic.

If you still want to, that'd be awesome. I'd also like to note that I hate Audacity. It's impossible to multi-track anything because you can't play anything back while you're recording.

I could do a drum track. But my recording equipment is at my dad's. I'd film it, but...nah.

I WOULD BUT YA SEE...

The crappy headset mic that I use is too far away to pick up my kit.
I guess I'll have to go looking for my other mic from 1998 that i probably have

EDIT: found it, it picks up my kit
EDIT2: Ian can you re-re-record that? The second part sounds like 9/4. Make it 4/4.

To answer this, since I started playing slightly more complex basslines, I've been trying to use the whole bass. So no, I don't write everything in 5th position, but I do write in 5th position relatively often.

My brother began solo recording. Then he seemed to lose interest in that and didn't seem too interested in guitar and bass. So I found a drummer, and we've got a band now. This also just happened, so we haven't done any work yet.

Oh yeah, it's instrumental...

Hey all! I'm starting up guitar lessons here soon, finally! My cousin hurt his leg and we can't do as much Parkour any mores, it isn't that fun by yourself you see. No he didn't hurt in practicing Parkour, he did something stupid on his dirtbike. He always loved guitars, but never got around to learning it, because he doesn't care for the in doors that much. So now were both taking up guitar and eventually going to start up just sorta' a two man group that plays whatever we write and whatever we feel like covering. lol Going to local talent shows and battles of the bands. My cousin and I pretty much do everything together in case you are wondering.

So yeah, any recommendations on a beginner electric?

When we get better, I'll be glad to help out with the forums music making thing iand.

Also, if anyone cares. Bailey Brothers is the shiz around here and this is just great news.

So last week I found some really great tabs for the mario theme, but now this week I can't find it any more. There's tons and tons of versions out there, but this one was well put together, with a bassline and everything. It started out something like
Code:
- 12 - 12 - 12 - -  - 12 - 15
-  -  -  -  -  - - 13 - - - -
- 11 - 11 - 11 - ?  - 11 - ?
-  -  -  -  - -  -  ? - - - ?
-  -  -  -  - -  -  - - - - -
- 10 - 10 - 10 - 10 - 10 -10

Okay, that looks really bad, but that's pretty close to how it was. Anyone know what I'm takling about?

A really good but cheap electric is an Epiphone Les Paul. Price range is around a few hundred dollars. Very good quality for the price though.

iand93: I think a music making thread already exists. I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: Arts and Crafts

That's what I'm looking at currently. As most of you know my favorite guitarist is Billy Corgan, and he uses a Fender Strat. So I was looking around and found the Squiel by Fender. Is it any good? It doesn't look or feel like a Epiphone/Gibson, but then again, it isn't really supposed to. So instead of just comparing them to each other, I want some other opinions. I know the Strat will give a more clean sound, but with the right equipment it could do whatever I please. A Les Paul on the other hand comes with a little distortion out of the box right? Not fuzz or static, but more of like, humming in its sound than a Strat. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is my depiction. Anyways, I'm kinda' just rambling. I don't really know what I want I guess, but I like dirty grinding, so I'm looking to a Les Paul, but I also just love what Billy can do with a Strat. So I'm just kinda' fighting a battle that doesn't really matter until I get more money I guess.

It all boils down to this I think: Epi Les Paul or Fender Squiel? Which is the better right out of the box?

I'll explain the difference between strats and les pauls.

Strats have three single coil pickups. This makes it more versatile, being able to switch to three different pickups that create different sounds. Buzzing can occur with the strats though.

Les Pauls generally have two double-coil pickups. The double-coil pickup cancels out any feedback or hum made by single-coil. That's why these double-coils are called "humbuckers."

Strats are great for Eric Clapton, Steve Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, or Billy Corgan-type soloing. They generally have a brighter, crisper tone.

Les Pauls have a deeper, richer tone. Great for rhythm and even some soloing. Bands like AC/DC, Nickelback, and 3 Days Grace (and most modern hard rock bands) use the double-humbucker setup (Les Pauls/SG's).

Neither guitar comes with distortion out of the box. That all depends on the type of amp and pedal you have. I personally have a stratocaster, but would love to have a les paul.

Any of this make sense?

Yeah, its making sense. I'm not a complete noob to guitars, I just don't know all the guitar speak. So basically, like I said before, I can get anything out of either guitar pretty much, as long as I have the money for equipment. Pedals, Amps, etc. Each guitar just has different qualities for different styles of playing out of the box.

I want a Strat, but the question is, is their bargain strat any good. To me, it just doesn't really look or feel like it.

I'm really looking at the Epiphone now, because I think it will be the best for beginning, and quality wise. I'm still going to ask some other people I know before I make a purchase. I think though that the Epi will win in the end. Billy started out with an imitation Les Paul, so it can't be bad to learn with! =)

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply you were. Just thought it'd help. :)

Well as far as Strats go... let's see. I think you're on the right track with the Squier. Cheap, but good guitars. All I know is you can't go wrong with an Epi. Personally, I think that'd be the best bet for a beginner.
