People keep making fun of me because I like "Emo" Bands, but I dont make fun of anyone else for their country bands or whatever. Cant we just leave each other alone?

I like emo bands. I like screamo bands. I wear tight pants. Therefore I get called emo. Big deal. Who cares what people think. But, it does get annoying how people judge you by what kind of music you listen to. It's shallow.

Everyone just shut up about the subject. Just because the dude listens to emo bands, which happen to kick any other genres butt, dont make fun of him. He just has different musical taste. Drop the subject. Problem solved.

If you don't want people dissing your genre, don't diss other genres.

EDIT @ jon: Allmusic on emo.

Wait, so this topic is all about not talking about what the topic is about?

What?

lol, wut? So you can't be emo if you have red hair? That makes no sense.

As fars I'm concerned, I like emo, but only when it's actually good. Bands like Weezer and Jimmy Eat World definitely are in the "good emo" category as far as I care.

In the end, I prefer hardcore punk and ska/punk over emo.

I concur. I'm sick of feeling like I have to apologise for the music I like.

Nobody knows what to call me, because there's no label for art-rock.

If you don't make fun of people for liking country while they make fun of you for liking emo, then you're doing it wrong.

And you accuse us of stereotyping...

Believe it or not, most people who hate emo also hate country, from my experience. And calling them "mean" is just unfounded (even if their taste in music sucks).

But anyway, be a little bit open-minded. Liking emo music is tolerable as long as it isn't the only thing you like, and as long as you don't force it down other peoples' throats. Get something else in those earbuds. Try London Calling.

Umm... Rancid sucked and the Clash sucked, too.
Let's see if anyone gets that.
Also, don't post the answer to what I said here. (not even "A-C")

Honestly, I like to think of myself as "open minded" when it comes to music (and some of the things people call music), but I have limits. Right now, emo is outside of those limits. To be honest, I think it might be because of the way the fans are. A lot of them are all "ZOMG IF YOU DON'T LIKE THIS BAND YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MUSIC!".
To tie it in with country, a lot of emo fans are sort of like like Brooks and Dunn fans in that regard.

To me, it seems like emo is sort of like the blues, only without the soul and real pain. Also, nobody from an emo band has sold their soul to the devil for mad guitar skills. (Robert Johnson >>> all emo bands combined)

Ok, I must be misunderstanding what emo is.

I would have said he was rock.
Not good rock, but rock nonetheless.
He DID, however do a worthy cover of Wanted Dead of Alive.

The definition of emo changes too quickly for us old people to keep up. And what ever happened to calling it "scene" or something? Or was that something else?

People are still doing the macarena right? I can still do a mean be-Hammer-Panted Electric Slide...

Okay. Emo music does not include Daughtry, Weezer, My Chemical Romance, and Jimmy Eats World. Sorry.

Huh, I thought MCR was the very Definition of emo music. Apparently I have no idea what Emo means.

My Chemical Romance is a mainstream rock band. Emo music is usually not played on the radio, and when it is, it's usually not listened to by the "scene" culture anymore. They'll say the band has "sold out" or something. This thread is embarrassing...

Oh, that's just because it was made by Mr. Triple Fake Account Whoever. It's normal.

Mainsteem my perfectly sculpted butt. MCR is only listened to by Scene kids and other freaks who think they're rebelling and being an individual by wearing and listening to the exact same thing other scene kids are.

Pobodys Nerfect.

Look. MCR has been on MTV. They've been at the top of rock charts. They're listened to by preppy people. They are mainstream and they suck. It isn't real emo music. It used to be.

That's by your definition though. By COLA's (and partially my) opinion, they are emo.

Get out more. They're not. And as someone who listens to actual scene music, it's like embarrassing that you think they are. Cause all the scene kids i know and are freinds with hate MCR.

Look, Emo's and Scene Kids suck because all they want is attention from their parents.

Go cry yourself to sleep.
