My mother infuriates me. She was watching a program on UFOs, and I asked her why she was watching that if she doesn't believe in aliens. She said that the government was behind UFOs. I got into the lengthiest argument I've ever had with someone about this. Science cannot explain these craft, and yet she believes that the government is making these incredible craft. As an example, I used the oft reported sighting of aircraft stopping in midair. I said stuff about momentum and all that, and about how professionals are studying this sort of stuff and can't explain it. She shrugged and said, "The government is keeping a bunch of things secret. This could be one of the things." Right, and that's alright. But this isn't one of those things. She said, "A long time ago, it didn't seem possible for things to hover in midair." I said, "Yes it did. daVinci came up with a hovering aircraft. Jets and such didn't seem feasible back then, but physics can explain how they work. Physics can't explain UFO behavior." Another shrug. "I'm open-minded", she said. "You're anything but open-minded. You're close-minded." She hears something new, and she sticks to it. Her opinion cannot be changed. Needless to say, she still believes humans are responsible for UFO tech. |
