So my dad's trying out Linux, and got a user for him.

For some reason, I am annoyed. Kind of ruining the private computer feeling.

And it seems /b/ is "invading" /x/ in a hostile takeover. This is too funny.

And if anyone's interested about /b/'s demise, I can tell you the whole story.
Today, a message appeared on /b/ telling people to come to Boston Commons tonight at 7. First, it was just a couple of regular /b/ lurkers who were talking and such. But then, all the Scientology protesters came wearing Guy Fawkes masks. They ruined whatever good qualities were there, harassing random people as they passed by, including a homeless person. They didn't know that moot had put up a live stream to document their stupidity (too bad this stream crashed when they had more than 4,000 people watching). I thought it was funny when people started thinking the stream had become invite only when it had actually crashed. Trolls were being trolls by saying "oh man you guys should be in this stream right now moot is telling us about /b/!!"
About an hour later, moot posted a thread on /b/ (which gained 1,000 replies) telling people what this was. It was a test to see what /b/ had become. moot said he was hoping there would be some people that would make him rethink shutting /b/ down, but it turned out to only help him make his decision to shut it down. A couple hundred CP threads, last post threads, and "goodbye" threads later, at 12:00 a.m. EST, /b/ went down. And as of now it's still down. Good riddance.

Well the whole thing was a reference to MSG4 anyway. I doubt it'll be down for long. No webmaster would ever throw away a site that gets as many hits as that, no matter how bad it becomes.

/b/ and /r9k/ have been flickering on and off lately. I'm not entirely sure what is going on.

If you "monitored" it closely enough, you'd know that Moot has only posted in the current sticky, and hasn't made a thread anywhere discussing "shutting /b/ down."

Yeah, I've read the whole sticky. Although I did make a mistake - moot didn't make the thread, sorry. He did tell us what was happening, though.

COLA has a point, though. Nowhere has anyone officially said "we will be shutting down /b/". It's just a leap of logic that everyone's taken.

I kind of hope this crap ends soon, it's infesting the other boards.

I haven't seen any infestations in /sp/ yet. Which honestly is the only part of 4chan I give a crap about, so I couldn't care less.

No, seriously. My brother showed me /b/ in the first place, and I first knew about it in 2005. He knew of it even before then.

How long you lurk stopped mattering when 4chan became the primary hub for information on the internet. However, in this turn of events, it matters more than before.

Anyone remember enders game? How the big brother and sister essentially took over the world government through an online hub? That online hub is what 4chan is going to become. Pretty soon, all major political and social decisions are going to be written, modified, and placed into action through 4chan.
