It wasn't years and years before their first World Series appearance, so longevity is irrelevant.

Well for me I can take solace in the fact that of the five teams that have never played in the World Series, mine is the only one that has come close.

Texas, Milwaukee and Washington/Montreal have never played in the LCS and Tampa Bay has never made it to the playoffs(though I think that is going to change this year).

I lol'd at the Red Sox recent victory in which they scored 18 runs

The Home Run Derby line-up is a bit lack luster this year.

Lance Berkman
Ryan Braun
Josh Hamilton
Evan Longoria-Parker
Grady Sizemore
Dan Uggla
Chase Utley

They need one big name in there. Manny would be cool to have or even a Yankee, maybe A-Rod.

Is that final? Are there only seven?

EDIT: According to Wikipedia, Justin Morneau is the other. Seriously, why aren't any Yankees in it? It used to be an unwritten rule that a hometown guy was always in the derby.

Yeah, apparently all the big names didn't want to do it this year (and Adam Dunn and Ryan Howard couldn't play because they aren't all-stars). I think they'll still hit plenty of home runs, though, especially in a tiny field like Yankee Stadium.

Manny didn't want to do it, and Ortiz was injured. So two of the biggest bats in baseball are out.

Guys I'm going to lol so hard when the Yankees miss the playoffs in their final season in Yankee Stadium.

WOW. LOOK AT THE NL WEST.

Everyone is below .500 and the Padres are 2.5 games behind the Giants. THE FREAKING GIANTS. Man what a terrible division.

um pretty much the entire NL except the Cubs and Cards is a joke (honorable mention: Mets, Phillies, Brewers)

I can't think of any other division with no .500 teams.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Too bad he barely missed the all-star roster.

The NL West has been almost like that a few times in recent years. The Padres won it a couple years ago with an 81-81 record. The NL Central was like that for a while last year, which was really suprising since it has 6 teams.

I likes it. Extra inning heroics are always a plus in my book.

Agreed!

I think 2002 had potential to be a GREAT all-star game, but... yeah. Contrary to most sports announcers, I like the whole "this time it counts" thing. It makes the game more interesting when they play for something (instead of a no-defense show where no one can try too hard and risk injury, like every other sport's all-star game), and it's probably a more fair way to choose home field advantage. And so they don't end up with a tie again.

The umps blew a couple calls against both sides (Dioner Navarro should've been safe in the 11th to win it), but that just made it more exciting.

J.D. Drew, the most maligned Red Sox player in recent memory, wins the MVP.

In Yankee Stadium, in the last year of play in said Stadium.

I lol'd hard.
