No I didn't. I get it for free. He has to earn it. I would rather get $6 for free than work for $640. Probably.

That's why you got pwn'd. He is out making money rather than sitting around and getting paid by his parents.

A lot (most) of my pet peeves come up at work. Here's another: People who use the dash as a universal punctuation mark. Not sure if you should use a colon or a period? Use a dash! Think your sentence has too many commas? Throw in some dashes! Want to make a list? Put a dash before each item! Don't think one dash is quite adequate? Use two! Three, even!

Guh. I work at a college for pasta's sake. You'd think my coworkers would know how to use their native language.

It's worse when it is your English teacher.

Once upon a time, my wife received a multi-page letter from a guy she was about to dump. The spelling/grammar was so awful she pulled out a red pen, and using appropriate proof marks, corrected the entire letter and sent it back, telling him to try again. She only did because she was about to dump him anyways, but poor grammar truly bothers her. :)

I'm assuming she wasn't your wife at the time.

Pet Peeve: accidentally clicking the quote button instead of the edit button.

Gah! It seems like every one of those annoying habits you bring up here is something I'm completely guilty of! This is getting to be a little disturbing.

Racer, I have to say, that is the funniest thing I've seen all day. It's really a great way to get back at him. Good prize!

I blame Canada. I'm kidding.

Peeve: Credit Card offers. It seems as soon as I turned 18 I got flooded with credit card offers. It's been a year and a half and I am still being bombarded with offers. Hey Jerkies in the credit card companies, stop sending me offers, I'm not interested right now.

Smart man.

What I do: rip it all up and stuff it back into the business reply envelope and mail it back to 'em.

I hate being a low level(53) character in Runescape and being called a noob, I may have low levels but I still worked hard to get them.

I used to do that, but it felt so unfulfilling. Then I started writing notes on them making fun of how weak and wimpy their offers were. A-like so:

"You call THAT and Introductory Rate?"
"What are you gonna do, send some Italians with violin cases to my house to collect if I don't pay?"
"Why did I hear the JAWS theme song playing when I opened this envelope?"

True dat.

Peeve: Cavities. I'm pretty sure I have a cavity on both sides of my mouth, because every so often, when I bite, I get a huge pain. Of course, you can imagine my surprise when I go to my dentist and she says, "Nope! No cavities!"

I've never had a cavity, but I've always expected to have some.
Peeve: People in my class.
I'm sorry, but these have to be the worst academic people I have had a class with. I was the only one who could name all fifty states, and one of them couldn't even name California. IT's not that they aren't up to standards that bothers me, though. It's the fact that they don't want to be up to the standards. Gah.

Who can name all fifty states? If you put a map in front of me, I could (as could most people), but most people can't name all seven dwarves even though they know who all of them are.

I agree, iKi, people are stupid, but being able to name all 50 states one after the other is hardly a fair measure.

P.S. Did I mention people who do really long quotes when only a line or two is relevant to their reply? I think I did.

I don't think he implied that they were being tested on "being able to name all 50 states one after the other." When I read it, the phrase "one of them couldn't even name California" made me think that they were shown a map with none of the states labeled, and were asked to fill in the names. Personally, I'd be worried about switching Vermont and New Hampshire, but that's beside the point.

The only way to recite the 50 states from memory is to sing the song. :)

Peeve: Feeling sick at night, then fine in the morning. I feel flu-ey and like my neck glands are gonna asplode, but I'll be fine in the morning.
Peeve: Waiting a Real Long time for the virus scanner to do a complete scan. How many files do I have that are actually relevant??

Peeve: Also people with bad grammar and bad spelling.

Sorry IJ, but the dash can sometimes be a useful tool.
Especially with short hand writing in class.

Even I can name all 50 states, and I'm not from here....pointing them out on a map or remembering their capitals is more difficult, I will confess - I get confused when you get into New England...

And I can name all seven dwarves...Disney version, AND Theatre IV version. :p

Oh - and thank you IJ, for letting me know I WASN'T supposed to use two spaces at the end of sentences, but let me say this - old habits die hard. I'll try to do better...*edits post to remove two spaces after period*

Peeve: Dumb drivers. I hate to say this, cause it will sound "car racist", but it always seems that whenever I get cut off in traffic, or have a reason to blow my horn, it's at someone driving a stinking SUV. Gas-guzzling, road hogs. [/hippie moment] *throws love at her friends who drive SUVs*

My newest one is the price of gas. Yesterday morning, gas was aroung $$2.65 a gallon. In just 10 hours, it shot up to $$2.99 a gallon. 30 cents in one day! And it's gonna keep rising...stupid freaking N.Y. state....yarr....

Ugh, I hate that. It takes so long for my computer to do. It's annoying.

Peeve: Cramps. Especially when you're running. They slow you down and are painful.

Well, for taking notes and stuff it's fine; you can write in sanskrit for all I care. But if you're writing something that's intended for mass consumption, I'd prefer to see a little effort. The other day I had to post an official announcement for work and it was so riddled with hyphens I wanted to puke my pants. Maybe I should have corrected it in red pen and sent it back.

Well, that sounds more reasonable. And I never learned any song.

For anyone wanting to practice their U.S. geography, I recommend the Place the States game. It gets kinda tough around Level 6.

And racer_x, Vermont is the one shaped (kind of) like a V. Easy to remember.

Does anyone have a copy of Wakko Warner singing about the states? That's a great way to learn them too.

And what's the deal with that? Animaniacs was supposed to be absolutely UNEDUCATIONAL!! How DARE Spielberg slip that in there!
