Here's another language-y pet peeve of mine:

When people say "literally" when they're actually speaking figuratively (i.e. the opposite of literally).

Example:

"It was so funny I literally died!"

Grr. No you didn't. Had you literally died, I would not be standing here being subjected to then agony of listening to you figuratively butcher the English language.

I realize this is an old peeve, but the word "literally" has been used figuratively by some of the most prolific authors since the late 1700s.

See: The Word We Love To Hate: Literally.

Nice article. Still, those authors use it as willful creative hyperbole, which is hardly the case with most speakers. When you hear it spoken on the street, it's out of laziness, not out of calculation.

Ugh. Almost breaking bones is no fun. Yesterday, right after school, I asked my mom if my friend could come over, and she said yes. And for some reason, I was really happy, so I started jumping up and down. And I landed wrong. And when someone as big as I am lands wrong, it hurts. REAL BAD. Immediatly after stumbling over to a chair to sit down, I was sure that I had broken it. I couldn't move it, and also, when I fell I had heard a crack.
So, my mom takes me to the hospital, and the X-Ray is negative. But, they say that if I still can't walk on it in a week, I should come back, because it is probably broken. And this really sucks, since I am going to Magic Mountain on Saturday for my choir's festival. So, now, I basicaly won't be able to do anything. Unless they have wheelchairs.

pet peeve #Whatever.
When the tone nob on my guitar falls off. I have such a low-end japanese crap-bag of a guitar every wekk almost-fail-safe the tone knob (nob?) falls off and the tone pot gets loose. So I have to take the 4 minute process of finding a screw driver and electric lubracant. Unscrewing the back plate, tightening the tone pot and putting the knob (nob?)back on. Then spraying down the lubricant to keep it from oxidizing. Ergh. I really need to upgrade to something american made.

Oy vey! That DOES suck. I hope your leg gets to feeling better...I'd hate for you to have to miss out on that.

That "literally/figuratively" thing bugs me, too.

Oh, MAN, iKi. That sucks beyond normal suck. I'd kill to get to go to Magic Mountain, man.

Although I assume you've already been there. You do live what, 50 miles from it?

But seriously, get well soon, man.

iKi, know how you feel. I once nearly broke my ankle as well. Luckily, I had only severed the tendons off of my ankle. Yeah...lucky, sure.

I hope you get better soon

By the way, what's Magic Mountain?

Actually, I've only been there onc before, and that was for last year's festival. But, on the bright side, I did miss school today, and got to play Halo 2 all day.

And uh, thanks for all the "get wells," juys.

Get well and such, iKipoopoo.

I wouldn't eat another donut for the rest of my life to go there! That really stinks man. I broke my arm a few years ago. I was going off a bike jump and a stupid kid jumped in front of me and I swerved to the left so I wouldn't hit him. I crashed and my arm was broken at a 120 degree angle.

Natha pet peeve. I hate girls flirting with me, hot or not, they all make me feel uncomfortable.

Right on, brother!

Peeve: Dropping stuff at school. You know, when you have like three books in your hands, and your pencil drops in the middle of the hall, and you have to juggle all your stuff in one hand while simultaneously trying to pick up the pencil?

That sucks.

I guess I could see complaining about if it happened to me all the time, or if the only girls who hit on me were the shallow types, but since I never get hit on and I'm such a lovesick fool, I can't quite relate personally. Then again, I don't know if I need an excuse to make even more of a fool of myself around women than I already do, so I'm not sure. ;)

It IS a pain to get hit on a lot.. Mainly, because I have a girlfriend. There's my peeve. Why is it that girls never flirt with single guys?!?!? Y'all wait til we're with someone then all try to pounce at once.
I don't mind the random flirting, but, in the last 2 weeks, I've had 2 girls pour their hearts out to me. You'd think that, if they knew me well enough to know that they have rather strong feelings about me, they would have picked up on the fact that I have a girlfriend. It's not like I hide the fact.

That's peeve 1.

Peeve 2, the dryer in my apartment building's laundry room doesn't work. Oh, it spins and such, but there's no heat. I wish I would have known that before I washed 2 loads of laundry. I made 3 makeshift clotheslines in my apartment to dry the stuff.. It's amazing how ingenious one can be at midnight, when they've been going for 42 hours straight...

Alright, this one is really bugging me: When like, 20 users are on the forums yet none of them are posting. And I stare at my computer screen for 15 minutes clicking refresh. Then I get sleepy and go to sleep.

That doesn't count as a peeve - that's more a dangerous sign you're a hardcore member of H*RWiki Forum Addicts Anonymous. Nice to meet you. ;)

Exactly. In the last five years, I've only been flirted with once, and I'm not even sure if that counts, considering she was drunk and the only reason I was social at all that night was because there was a keyboard in the room. I should take her hint that "Piano players are hot." Maybe my keyboard "expertise" could get me somewhere...

So, why do you think YOU wrote that?
I've heard that answering to your own posts is pretty weird, but taking someone else's post, saying that's yours and answering to it?

And Mr KISS, I wholeheartedly agree with you. Sometimes I open MSPaint and do some spriting. And if I finish it and nobody has posted anything, I'm gonna be ticked off.

Ya, if you can play an instrument in a bar or something, you can be ugly as mud and you'll still have the ladies on a leash (metaphorically). If you can learn to play some Billy Joel or something along those lines, get ready for some major hitting on you...ums.

Well, I do go to an open mic night at a bar every Monday night, but I haven't taken my keyboard there yet since it's so huge, only my acoustic. And I'm pretty sure my songs probably weird out most girls there who have heard them, so if I were the sell-out type I'd start playing more obvious covers. ;) Nah, actually I have had a couple of them there compliment me, one of which (Katie) is somewhat of a crush (one I have no chance with, though - I'm way too intimidated to talk to her very much!!) I guess I'll keep seeing where this goes anyway....

And yes, I meant to write StrongRad when taking that quote, but I accidentally put my own name on it. Whoops.

Anyway, Toastpaint. My recent peeve: Slanted parking spaces that are tricky to back out of, which contributed to an accident I had last week trying to leave McDonalds. The car to the right of me was parked crookedly over the line to the point where it was near impossible for me to turn out at any angle without hitting it on either end. Urgh. Luckily, the owner of the car told me not to worry about any damage.
