I have a peeve of things having to be pc. Jeez is!* If everything was pc, then nothing would be fun anymore. We'd have to call hot dogs random pieces of meat mushed into a shape of a dingaling.

Windows Automatic Updates. >:{

This particular computer has a dial-up connection. Which means I don't have a lot of bandwidth to start with. So what happens? I log on to the interwebs, and WAU suddenly decides to hog every last bit/sec of it! No IM. No Forum. Not even text-based email can get through this suckage!

And exactly what was it installing? A program that's supposed to notify me if my OS is not a genuine MS product! WTC??? Look, I already KNOW that my copy of Windows is a genuine factory-installed version. But if it wasn't do you think I want to install some Gatesware to inform Darth Bill that it's not?

I click "Cancel" because I don't need any Gatesware, thank you very much. But why do I have the feeling the police will be by the office any day now to arrest me for software piracy?

damn. forgot to check the legality on my other computer. but now i can't.
then again, i doubt it isn't. the computers were bought by a big company, and the OS has never given me banners and time limits saying so.

Typically, the software installed my manufacturers is done by license, so you don't have to worry about it. Usually, the only reason you'd need to worry about pirated software is if you bought it from some shady guy in a back alley. Or if you were a software pirate yourself.

The way I figure, it's just Darth Bill's way of trying to make more money and/or catch people who deliberately use pirated software. If you do happen to discover that the software is pirated, all they're going to do is tell you to go buy a new copy, so it's not like it's really going to protect you, the consumer.

I know my software is legit. Both machines were purchased from Dell, and both came with licensed software on CD-Rom or DVD. To me, this Windows Genuine Authentication Program is just an annoyance I don't need. It's basically Gatesware.
