Forum Games is too spammy to be in Off-Topic. It needs to be moved up to General Discussion with the rest of the noobishness.

Disclaimer: Zeno doesn't actually think there's a good reason to move it, he just needed to express his dislike of both Forum games and Gen Discussion. Also, he considers himself to be on topic because he is, in fact, talking about thing he doesn't like.

New peeve: :P

It's overused and obnoxious. Like, if I were actually talking to someone and they did that, I'd punch them and/or walk away, depending on their size.

WF needs an emoticon Renaissance, like WFWF.

Actually, I think I'd be laughing too hard to do anything if I saw someone do that.
I only use it to make sure people know I'm kidding.
Text on a screen conveys emotion about as well as Al Gore could sing a song by Twista.

You really honestly think that Counting to 100,000 Backwards or whatever is something valid?

OK, but what about Operation: Storyteller, Tile Brawl, or The Werewolf Game?

Well, it IS on topic.
I mean, 1000, followed by 999... in a topic about counting backwards IS on topic.

I also can't stand people who mispronounce Mexican names, especally where I live. Here, half the population is mexican, so why can't teachers and telemarketers get it right?

A couple of weeks ago, I happened to be in the room when a newscaster began an editorial rant (I never watch the news on purpose ;))... and he was going to gripe about the upcoming NBC program based on a Colombian program called "Sin tetas no hay paraíso". But he pronounced it something more like, "Sen tetas, no jey pareiso" -- for those of you who don't know Spanish, the pronunciation is more off than it looks. Compare the pronunciations of the English words "eye" and "hay"... not at all similar, right? But Spanish "hay" is pronounced like "eye", not like "hay". And he didn't even get the right number of syllables in "paraíso". It's four, not three: "pah-rah-EE-soh", not "pah-RAY-soh".

I understand that not everybody knows the Spanish pronunciation rules. If an average guy mispronounced the title, I'd have shrugged. But this guy really should have known better, so I burst out laughing. (I actually didn't know how badly he mangled "paraíso" at the moment because I didn't know that word, but I knew that his pronunciation of "hay" was completely wrong. So I was even more amused when I googled it and found what the right title was...) I mean, he didn't even have to include the title in his little rant, since he could have given the English name ("Without Breasts There Is No Paradise"). What was the point of including the Spanish title if he wasn't going to bother to ask someone how it was pronounced?

I get peeved about French mispronunciation too, Kef. I can't think of an example right off the bat, but I guess most people don't care since French obviously isn't much of a big language here as it is in Canada.

The only games I don't really like at all are the ones that are just people saying the same thing over and over and over again. Like "Last Post" and "omg i lost the game" thing.

Okay, so I've gotten an explanation of what "Tires" was about.

What is spam is up to the discretion of the mods/admins, but that whole Tires thing seemed to me to not be a huge deal when it was confined to one forum game. However, I both disagree with the sudden locking of the thread and the decision of its participants to go to other threads and bring it there. The lock may have been just a little too severe, but going to other threads and spamming them up was irrational and probably annoying. Once again, drama results due to problems from both sides.

This all being said, iKi's avatar still makes me laugh heartily.

Now, those games are different. Remember what the root of this debate is. The Tires thing. It generated in Avatar Above You, which does not come close to being as complex as TWG or Storyteller. Point being, those are definitely not spammy, but Avatar is.

But that's not a "topic of conversation" as defined on this forum.

Okay. Here's my take on the games: Yeah, some of them are kind of silly. But people have enjoyed posting in them. "Last Post" had over 400 pages before it was deleted, which means an awful lot of people had an awful lot of fun posting there. So what if you didn't like it yourself? So what if it wasn't as intricate as "Werewolf" or "Operation Storyteller"? People were having fun.

Hmm...this is tough. All the good images are quickly becoming HRWFWF exclusives, so you guys have to move fast.

You've already lost Sad Bush and Buddy Jesus.

I deleted LAST POST. I brought it here, but if anyone wants to restart it, go right ahead.

So I'm watching a soccer game between the MLS All-Stars and Celtic FC, one of Glasgow's 2 big teams. They're the only reason I'm watching this game, but the American announcer pronounces it "Selltic" instead of "Kelltic"! Image

This games stuff should probably be split into another thread. Y'all are crowdin' out my rant on newscasters who can't pronounce Spanish. :P

I'm using "Topic of Conversation" in the general administration's definition of it.

What we did in that thread was completely on-topic. Bibendum thinks about tires. He's a tire company mascot. Besides, at the time we did it there wasn't even anyone else, you mods aside, trying to post in it. Besides besides, we were having fun doing it, and that's the whole point of Forum Games, no?

What about all the times that mine and Ian's avatars were thinking "Tires", despite the fact that our avatars had nothing to do with tires? While it may not have been intentional, the sheer speed at which the posts were being made was flooding the board.
