Have you guys ever noticed how some songs sound like other songs? I have, and it's really annoying. Post some song titles and the songs they sound like. I'll start us off, here:

"Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and the ABC song

"Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" by Jet and "My Generation" by some old band that I can't remember. (c'mon, they're similar, right?)

I heard something on the radio dealing with this the other day... They took a lot of songs from popular people... It was funny. A lot of Britney Spears songs sounded like a lot of her other songs.. I think they did it with Montgomery Gentry and a couple of other bands... It was quite funny.
They didn't do any rap.. Of course, it's not like they actually had to LOL

Ugh, don't remind me of Jet. The most heinous crime that band's committed has been stealing riffs from classic rock songs (like the afformentioned "My Generation" by The Who and "Lust for Life" by Iggy Pop) and shoving them into their own, far worse songs.

Better they do it, than some talentless rapper... P-Diddy just "sampled" the sound of me typing that...

As for songs that sound like other songs, I'm listening to ZZ Top right now, a lot of their songs sound kinda similar.. I don't think I heard them mentioned in that thing I heard the other day.

Try Eminem's rip off of Aerosmith's "Dream on"

...Thats because they all have the exact same tune intentionally.

Oh, Shine On You Crazy Diamond reminds me of 'Atom Heart Mother Suite'(both by pink floyd) during certain parts...

There was an album of stuff called smash-ups which took a buch of songs that sounded enough alike to be mixed together. If you listen to any of the songs off of it, it's no big deal... unless you know the songs they're based upon! When you realize that the lyrics from one group are being played on a background riff from another group (often in a different genre, like crossing rap with contemporary christian) and with a chorus from yet another song that you recognize, the effect is very impressive, IMHO.

And, having heard the REM/Elecman crossover about a year ago, I wondered if REM had played/heard MM.

If any of yous peoples have heard of the band Guster, you might know that they actually did something called the "Generic Chord Progression Medley"... it included "Waterfalls" by TLC and a couple others, and went into their song "Center of Attention"... pretty funny stuff.

Another good one, though not really discussed much, is the similarity between the bridges in Tori Amos' "Hey Jupiter" and Prince's "Purple Rain."

Ok ok ok ok.
Look what you've done by Jet is alot the same as a few Beatles songs.
1. The chord structure i the verses is the same as in Let it Be
2. The words "Oh, look what you've done, you've made a fool of everyone" is almost exactly the same as the Beatles song Sexy Sadie which is "Sexy Sadie look what you've done, you've done, you've made a fool of everyone."
And 3. And the end of the 2nd and 3rd choruses of Look what you've done there is a bouncy riff that is a trademark of many Beatles songs.
Don't think I'm a freak, I just like music is all.

Yeah, I don't like Jet too much because of their copying (or what sounds like it)

Take:
Cold Hard Female Dog & Are You Gonna Be My Girl

Both seem devoid of "Chords".

Sheesh, all this ripping on Jet.

I realize their stuff sounds like a lot of other stuff. But it isn't bad because it does. And I'm not really hearing the "Are you gonna be my girl" similarities. Though I totally totally agree with the Beatle-esque song.

And I can't dislike "Are you gonna be my girl," because it just happened to be the perfect song to go with this video I made.

If you listen closely to Ozzy Osbourne's "Mama's I'm comin' Home" and Weird Al's "The Night Santa went crazy" the beginning sounds the same but then Wierd Al goes in a dfferent direction

Also most of AC DC's starting notes sound like the beginning of the Misfits' "We are 138"

One last thing: If you learn the main cords to any of the Ramones' songs you also know almost every song by Nirvana and The Offspring.

Every Linkin Park song sounds exactly the same.

The Residents (one of the greatest bands ever to breath air) put out an album called The Third Reich n' Roll, which contained two medleys of pupular 60's songs completaly ruined (such as Telestar, Land of 100 Dances, Yummy Yummy Yummy, etc.). Anyway, the second side of the album (Swatiskas on Parade) ended with them playing In a Gadda da Vida, Sunshine of Your Love, Hey Jude, and Symphathy for the Devil all at once, and it's f'ing hillarious. I highly recommend this album if you know what's good for you.

A band that sounds like Limozeen is supposted to sound like: Motly Crue, if you listen to smoking in the boys room it sounds like the leard singer of Limozeen (as seen in the SB 100th e-mail)

You remember the song that was done for the Josey and the Pussy Cats film? There's actually a song that came out before that one by Gackt that sound freakishly similar to that one! It's scary!

I thought I was the only person who thought those two sounded alike. Guess I'm not original anymore, but at least I know my idea isn't completely absurd! :)
