That show that airs every Monday night on NBC. For those who don't know, it's similar to X-Men with a diverse cast of characters getting supernatural powers such as flight, time travel, regeneration, etc. Kind of surprised it doesn't have a topic here yet.

Yesterday's thriller style episode focused around Mr. Bennett was great, and kind of differed from the normal show by not switching focus between the various members of the cast. And Hiro still got to make an appearance, playing his Game Boy.

Yeah, I've been thinking of watching that show. But I'm not the type of person who tunes every week to see a show. That and I never watch NBC shows. They're good, but I ignore them anyway.

Did anyone see it today?

For those in the dark, Kid Nation is a new reality show where 40 kids ages like 7-16 try to make a new town, a ghost town in some desert. They do Show-Downs (Easier tasks like in Survivor) to have places in the community. Like the first team that wins becomes Upper Class were they don't work and earn $1, Shopkeepers earn 50¢, Chefs earn 25¢ and Laborers (Bathroom cleaners, etc.) earn 10¢.

Kids then get asked if they want to leave (No eliminations) then the Council (A 10 year old girl, a 12 year old girl and 2 really, REALLY annoying guys around 11) chooses who gets a Gold Star, which is worth 20 GRAND!

Anyway, anyone else see it??

I laughed, a lot. The girl that one the gold star reminded me of my brother.

Also, those kids are weird.

The very fact that they're airing this show means that nothing really interesting happened during the filming. Which means, like all reality television, it's going to be boring.

Can you say SADISTIC??

No seriously, arn't all they doing is useing these kids for cheep entertainment? It's sick!!

And incedently, if they wanted to make the show really interesting, they wouldn't have rules, they'd just plop the kids in the town, set up cameras, leave some 20 year old counicler people with them and see what happens.

That might end up like "Lord of the Flies" by Sir William Golding in which this show is "possibly" based on.

Same basic concept of letting a kids run their own affairs except in "Lord of the Flies" there were no adults at all and the kids ran everything. They try to start a democracy in the purest sense but are eventually led to a brutal dictorship under one of the older children, and hunt and kill anyone who doesn't share his views on leadership.
A pretty good book overall I thought.

Sadistic?

Oh, come on. It's not like they'll be permanently tortured by the experience. It's all artificially produced under the close supervision of adults anyway. And if you're just against having SWEET INNOCENT CHILDRENS on television at all, well, that's your own issue.

(Also, as Mako mentioned, Lord of the Flies. Read it now if you haven't already.)

(Assuming of course that you aren't one of the many people on this forum that might be scarred for life and turn against their religion if they were ever exposed to written violence and mild language.)

I thought Sophia was pretty cool; definitely earned the gold star there.

The one Indian kid pisses me off 'cause he tries to sound all smart, and the other 11 year old council guy, Mike I think, is a wuss and pisses me off too.

Totally agree with you. The four older guys (the two graffitiers, the kid that had a "Great Speech" and the African kid) should be the council people

Not to bash the show, but I was listening to NPR, (Ya, I listen to NPR, wanna fight about it?) and they said one of the kids had de-hydration, so one of the parents got the shows staff to get him to a hospital. Dont think they will mention that on the show. ;)

No one will care, 39 kids is too much for casual viewers to handle

This looked interesting the first time I saw the commercial but after six months of overhyping it got old.

I might watch it.

I saw the premiere of this yesterday. Spoilers.

Was pretty cool, from what I saw. Maya's power is pretty freaky.

Didn't see all of it, though. Apparently the West kid with all the robots and aliens can fly.

The Parkman stuff is pretty creepy. Wonder who this guy turns out to be.

When Hiro saved Takezo I was thinking that something's gonna go wrong. Really wrong. Looks like it did.

I think Takezo has a big role in the present time/future. I'm thinking an evil one too.

srry if there's another, more response'd topic.

I'll just put all of this in spoilers for courtesy.

Welp, I saw Peter having amnesia from a mile away. Pretty much the only way not to have him be some kind of godmoder that just solves every problem on the show in two seconds. The Hondurans weren't very interesting, but may be more so when we figure out just what the heck Maya is doing to people. Noah roughing up his boss was pretty awesome, but I thought he was trying to not draw attention to himself??? Right now I think the most intriguing storyline is the older characters getting the "death mark". I have no idea who the killer could be.
I would be very surprised if it doesn't turn out that:
- creepy flying stalker guy is a plant from the company
- Hiro does the deeds he read about as a child and become the true kensei.
- Peter regains his memories just in time to allow him to avert some pressing danger.

I think Maya's power is activated by when her brother isn't nearby, hence why he's so protective of her. The victims were bleeding from the eyes, I think, too.

Also, Eli Roth is directing an episode of Origins. Claire tortureporn?

I think that Alejandro also has a power, and that it's somehow the counter to Mayas. Like, whatever it is she does to people, he can stop it.

I've seen an episode of this show, but I didn't really understand it. Probably because I never saw the previous ones. In order. It does sound cool, though.

Wait, why am I spoiling this?

I think Maya's powers turn on when she's scared or nervous. The truck drivers probably tried to have their way with her and she flipped out and made them all sick. (That's her power, she can create plagues or whatever).
I wonder if one of the older 9 heroes (the one who killed George Takei) is the bogeyman that Molly sees.

So has anyone noticed the sudden surge in occurances in the number nine in the series?

I mean, we've got the Helix that appears everywhere, and the eclipse that also pops up in odd places (my favorite being the one in the hospitel) but now it looks like the grand old number nine will play a role, too.

9th Wonders
Nine of the older folk left
The crate that Peter was in had a lot of 9's in it.

I dunno, that's not a whole whole lot of occurances, but there was enough instances in such a short time from different people that it stuck out to me.

Spoilers.

I said Takezo which was the english Chinaman warrior guy. Unless that's a theory which probably will happen because you just don't off the Sulu like that.

I've heard rumors that Sylar's back somehow. I was sure Hiro killed him, since he could only have absorbed DL's power if he killed the guy. But he didn't.

And even if teh Sulu is dead, it was unfair for [s]the Ninth Doctor[/s] Claude to suddenly leave the show forever. He rocked; I hope he comes back.
