I actually really like Icky Thump to tell you the truth.

The Arms of Sorrow - Killswitch Engage

I have yet to look up the lyrics for this song, but I likes it.

Tonto - Battles

You were right Beaums, these guys are actually pretty good. I like how this song starts out sounding all dissonnant, and then everything just...falls into place. The fadeout that lasts for 2 FRIKKIN' MINUTES is kind of annoying, though. Also, it's kind of repetitive.

I love the intro to this song, and the lyrics to the song are genius.

Battles, on the other hand, is just plain weird.

Weird, yes, but in a good way methinks. They're all amazing musicians and talented guys in general, so I think they can pull it off. They're choice of vocal work is a bit over-the-top, yes, but they're trying to create a unique sound and that's always something to roll with.

That being said...

Tonto - Battles

My favorite Battles song, hands down. I'm glad I came across them in 2007.

I've had epc/bep since it came out, pretty much, and I've still not really listened to it. WIth all this recent interest in them, I may actually do so at some point. Maybe.

The only worthwhile song on EP C/B EP is SZ2 in my opinion. I'd recommend listening to Mirrored instead.

Oh, and Battles - Tij

This song proves that Battles would be nothing without John Stanier.

Trapt - These Walls

I like listening to this song really loud. To me, it seems to have a special type of emotion behind the vocals.

I'm insulted. I love new wave revival groups. But you're listening to Husker Dü, so it almost makes up for it.

I know some of those bands sound a little generic, but honestly, a lot of them aren't that bad. Sometimes music doesn't have to be something that sings the soul to rest, and can just me something catchy. And hey, if "Smile Like You Mean It," or "Brianstorm," or heck, even "Skip To The End," aren't fun songs to hum along to, I don't know what is.

Belle and Sebastian - The State That I Am In, by the way. Great lyrics.

It's a guy's break-up song. Any guy who has been dumped can sympathize with this song.

Argh, I only have Psycho, I tried listening to their other crap, but his voice annoys me. But it works for Psycho.

I'm all for catchy music, but not catchy music sung by ghosty British people aspiring to be Interpol (who never really brought anything new to the table in the first place, I might add!). There. I said it. Actually, New Wave revival isn't so bad; it's just that all the groups are all pretty homogenous. And I listen to punk rock, so that's saying something.

!!! - Pardon My Freedom

I like !!! plenty, but it's sometimes I feel kinda dirty since !!! is the darling group of the pitchforkmedia.com-reading, American-Apparel-wearing scene. Then, all that goes out the window when the singer sneers, "You can tell the president to suck my Funk dick/Does that sound intelligent, or like I'm throwing a Funk fit?"
