Foreplay/Long Time - Boston

Excellent in many ways; I think of songs like this when thinking of classic rock.

Rob Thomas - This is how a heart breaks

Two words: Heck. Yes.

I love this man. His lyrics are powerful, gritty, then can be so sweet. My only problem with his musical arrangement is something that often befalls Alternative bands - mediocre 'breaks' in the middle. You know, the space where their SHOULD be like, an awesome guitar solo or something.. instead replaced with some lyrics with weaker music then the rest of the song. Throws me off.

Thankfully, this particular song doesn't fall into that. The place where it could've instead has some awesome piano/lyrical work that, while it's different then the rest, still flows nicely and sounds g-e-w-d gewd.

Otherwise, I'm a huge Matchbox Twenty fan, and of Rob Thomas in general. I want to go to one of their concerts so bad... :eekdance:

Ah, ok. That makes sense. And I agree with Radiohead not being as revolutionary as they were told to be, they just brought a new sound into the mainstream. Like a lot of 90s radio.

Wait, wait, wait...bringing new sound into the mainstream isn't revolutionary? WTC?! Most bands change and go mainstream because people like it and think its good. Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine, and Atreyu are all prime examples. Radiohead, Nirvana, and the Smashing Pumpkins were all revolutionary. They turned the tables on what is/was mainstream in the 90's. Learn before you speak please.

Bringing new sound isn't revolutionary, it's new sound. If I were to make an album that consisted of me clapping and mixing in noises of elephants, would it be revolutionary?

I'd say if the mainstream loved it and couldn't buy enough of it: Yes, that would be revolutionary.

It still has to sound good and people enjoy it. Otherwise, no one will buy and therefore you are just making noise that no one wants to listen to. Notice I said, "...they turned the tables on what is/was mainstream..." So yes, it would be revolutionary, if people enjoy it and buy it.

Radiohead isn't mainstream. Fergie is mainstream. R. Kelley is mainstream. Fallout Boy is mainstream.

I like it too. I can't understand why. I think my music teacher blaring it in class has something to do with it.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's not bad by any means.

Maybe the fact that I like it is contributed to by the fact that it's an ingredient in an excellent Gurren Lagann AMV. Yes, they exist.

I consider Radiohead mainstream. I here them on the radio often, They've sold millions of records, and people talk about them a lot. What isn't mainstream about that?

Also, I was never an MCR fan. It's pretty decent, but there are bands that play the same style of music and I feel they do it much better.

Yeah, I gotta agree with that. What else would be a qualifier, yanno?

It's the opposite around here. Never hear it on the radio, never hear it being discussed. So it isn't really mainstream around where I live. It might be somewhere else, but I base what I said on where I live.

Oh, I see I see... So, overall it's mainstream, but locally your town is extremely backwater-- no no, I'm just teasing. :-D
