The BSOD is an error screen so I don't think there's a way to change it without hacking around in the source code. There's maybe a registry key or something, but i highly doubt it.

You can change the color...if you're handy with a hex editor you *might* be able to change it to say "FLAGRANT SYSTEM ERROR"

Why not get a Mac? Then, you wouldn't even NEED the Blue Screen of Death, since the last time my Mac froze was... well, never.

While I agree with you (somewhat, Linux would be a good choice also), he wasn't asking to replace or get rid of the BSoD, he was simply asking to change it so it looked like SB's. I'm not exactly a big fan of the BSoD/Window$ but please stay on topic.

Your goal is to NOT get the blue screen of death. Why would you want to customize it? If you DO get the blue screen of death, you should probably be worried about other things than what it looks like.

Well, that would depend on which OS he's running. On WinXP: In Windows NT, 2000, and XP, a blue screen of death ("Stop" error) occurs when the kernel encounters an error from which it can not recover. This is usually caused by a driver that throws an unhandled exception or performs an illegal operation. The only action the user can take in this situation is to restart the computer, which results in the possible corruption or loss of data because Windows has not been properly shut down.

Win95/98/ME: The less serious (but more common) blue screen of death occurs in Microsoft's home desktop operating systems Windows 95, 98, and Me. In these operating systems, the BSoD is the main way for VxDs to report errors to the user. It is internally referred to by the name of "_VWIN32_FaultPopup". A Windows 9x/Me BSoD gives the user the option to either restart or continue. However, VxDs do not display BSoDs frivolously—they usually indicate a problem which cannot be fixed without restarting the computer, and hence after a BSoD is displayed the system is usually unstable or unresponsive...The BSOD can appear if a user ejects a floppy disk while it is being read on 9x/ME.

Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to clear up some misinformation about our buddy the Blue Screen of Death.[/i]
