I started reading the Spider Man Action Fantasy comics again.
They were so cheesy, like comic books should be.

Today's Foxtrot. Mehhh. I'm embarrassed that I got 3/4 of those references.

^I got the first three, but I'm not sure what the last one was supposed to be.

I've seen at least five other terrible pun-based strips for PBS, all of which end with the rat threatening Pastis. Formulaic. Worthless.

Get Fuzzy is also formulaic. Cat is mean. Dog is dumb. Human is bemused. Stupid.

All comics are formulaic to a degree, with maybe the exception of the Far Side, which we can all agree was excellent, but these two aren't even funny about it.

I also hate Marmaduke.

I really would've expected better from you, Jitka. :/

Yeah, they can formulaic sometimes, but really, that's more of problem with the print comics medium then a problem with the comic itself. It's hard to really explore longer stories or deeper jokes when you have only 4 panels a day.

Also, like Ace said, it's not always about the punchline. Sometimes you have to know the characters to really get the joke. Get Fuzzy runs into this problem a lot - often, if you're new to the strip, a lot of the stuff they talk about isn't really that funny. Take some time to actually understand the background of the comic before you run around calling it formulaic.

I do agree with you about Marmaduke though, it's just stupid.

The "twist" I was talking about was him killing of the character of himself.

What was "uncalled for" what his killing of rat yesterday.

Ohh, my bad, Thanks for clearing that up. I get the strips now. Speaking of which, the one ripping on bloggers today was pretty darn hilarious. Poor Goat.

*raises hand*

Yes, although I stopped a while ago and haven't gotten back into the groove of it for some reason

*raises hand* Yeah, CC is awesome. I post there sometimes, under the name Stij.

(btw, do you have any idea what happened to the forums? josh must've taken them down or something, I can't find a link to them anywhere)

Not a clue. In the past few months I sort of drifted away from CC and just read the comics megathread on SA, which is pretty much the same thing.

Ace brought to my attention that I posted in the wrong thread, so here are my feelings on the funnies.

I'm a big fan of Foxtrot, Baby Blues, Dilbert, and obviously Calvin and Hobbes. I also kind of like Zits and Peanuts.
