Listen at least until the vocals come in.

A bit too much synthesizer too be called metal by my standards.

Personally I think what metal needs is more synthesizer. Particularly the more upbeat stuff. It can do wonders for artistic expression and making really driving metal without being more aggressive than intended.

But that's not metal. It may have terrible vocals typically associated with metal, but the music itself is not metal at all.

If you want metal with keyboards, listen to Children of Bodom.

iTunes preview'd!

I really liked what I heard of their instrumentalists, but unfortunately, it's another metal band ruined by the vocalist. There is one thing I have almost zero tolerance for in music, and that's vocalists who are almost exclusively atonal, particularly in the form of screaming and death grunting. An occasional screamed line at an emotional peak ("TRAPPED INSIDE THIS OCTAVARIUM!!") or a dark-sounding yell leading into a guitar solo or something ("GET DOWN ON YOUR KNEEEEEES!") can be cool, but when that's the main focus of the lyrical style, it really ruins the tone to me, and takes the whole experience down several rungs of the ladder of what is considered art. Really, the same goes for rap with me. Rap breaks in R&B and such are a cool effect, but songs that are entirely rapped are just dumb.

Keyboards have no place in MEtal. Just look what "Jump!" did to it.

CoB actually makes good use of keyboards on Hatebreeder and Hate Crew Deathroll. Not so much on their other albums.

All guitar and no keyboard makes Jack a dull songwriter. :)

Not on Metal albums/music. You can;t have Keyboards AND guitar and whole band playing together in one song. You can in other Genres, just not in metal.

Bells and church organs may have a place.

That was...interesting. I've never heard growly vocals used outside of the context of metal like that. Dunno what you'd call it.

I agreed with you until you started talking about how R&B is cool.

Well, I never said I really liked R&B, just that I can acknowledge its existence as "music." And that effect can work for it sometimes.
