So how about that ska and/or that punk? Bomb the Music Industry is due to release a new album sometime soon. Streetlight Manifesto's next album is coming out soon! If 2039 is soon. Big D and the Kids Table kind of sucks.

I don't know if you'd put this here, but I love 80s LA punk. X, The Germs, and the CJs are some of my favorite bands of all time.

Rot in a corner.
Also Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, The Vibrators, etc.

Pff, enjoy your highly typical and boring ska. I bet you like Mustard Plug too. Although, I heard Mustard Plug puts on a really good show.

Ok, Mike. What bands do you consider punk?

I like the musical idea of ska, but I hate the whole concept of trying really hard to be different and nonconforming most ska and punk bands have going.

Can't speak for ska, but punk was founded on non-conformity. Punk started out as a social movement, like the hippie movement, but has since just been referred to as a subculture and genre of music.

I wouldn't say most ska/punk bands are trying to be nonconforming or different. I think they're just doing what they like.

Word Up wrote:

Anything from The Dead Kennedys to The Mr. T Experience to Bomb the Music Industry to Johnny Hobo. All very, very different types of punk, but punk nonetheless.

I think they wanted to make something sound so bad that it eventually sounds good. None of them are really musicians at all.

That's the style. Quick, but simple. Don't hate.

oh hey mike made this thread didn't see that coming

Yeah, I listen a fair amount of ska and a wee bit of punk.
Streetlight Manifesto is probably my favorite ska band but they can get old. I saw them in concert a couple months ago. That was fun.
The Arrogant Sons of Bitches are my second favorite. I wish they'd play another reunion show but I know it won't happen.
I'm still not sure whether I'm excited for the new Bomb The Music Industry! album or not. I mean, it's BTMI! and all but I haven't been too impressed with the new demos I've heard.
Less Than Jake is another awesome ska band. I still need to buy their new album.
Catch 22 is pretty good but Keasbey Nights is their only album I thoroughly enjoyed.
Some punk bands I like are The Dead Kennedys, The Wipers, Minor Threat, and The Misfits in their later, more hardcore days.

You weren't a fan of Permanent Revolution? Rules of the Game, Keasbey Nights, and Permanent Revolution were the only really great albums they made.

I liked the sound of 25 and Saddr? Weirdr?, but the sound of Little Brother is almost too techno-ey for me. If it's the only track on the album that sounds like that, I'd be fine 'cause it's pretty good. Edit: Well, it's an Andrew Jackson Jihad cover. That's why it's pretty good.

One of my favorite ska bands is Flip the Switch from Sacramento.
Sacramento has a really good unsigned ska scene...

Question: Would bands like Hepcat and The Slackers be considered third-wave since they were around in the nineties, or would they be considered first-wave since they play that style of music?

Waves are broken up primarily by sound. So I'd say they're first-wave, I suppose.
