Just a pre-note: Sorry if this thread is useless, and as a response to if it's locked, "Consarnit!"

I'm going in to get an MRI tomorrow, and just wanted to know, has anyone else had a scanning procedure done before? Mine is actually just to see if I have any cranial irregularities, and if they've been causing the headaches that I've been having.

Sometimes people worry too much about their threads. You posted a thread about something you want to talk about that hasn't been discussed before, and you posted it in the Off-subject Discussion forum where it belongs. What could be wrong with that?

Anyway, I haven't had any such procedure (I had some back x-rays back when I was a tween and fell out of a tree -- "whoops, there goes your L-2 vertebra!"), but that's all. But I wish you the best of luck and I hope your skull isn't deformed. Or that your skull is deformed and they can correct it easily and your headaches go away. Whichever you prefer.

Hey TFBM - I hope everything comes out okay! Let us know, alright?

Oh - I've never broken anything *knocks on wood*. The only X-rays I've had were for my teeth. *Flashes brilliant Crest-loving smile*

I've only ever been X-rayed, and that was when I fractured my left wrist, so I wouldn't know how an MRI would turn out.

As for worrying about the thread being closed, I think it was fairly legtimate for him to worry, given the regularity with which threads get pounced with "LOCK THIS PLZ" messages these days.

I've never had an MRI, but on Tuesday I took part in an experiment one of the grad students in the Psych department was doing. They hooked me up to an EEG and I wore this headband-type thing that sent weak electromagnetic pulses into my brain. It was kinda weird - I felt like I was falling, then felt like someone was poking me in the head, and that my head was turning to the left even though I didn't move. Anydangway, I've suffered no ill effects, and though I know that the magnetic fields involved in an MRI aren't the same, 40 mins of what they did to me was pretty cool, actually.
So I wouldn't worry, and I hope all goes well for you.

The only thing to worry about is if you're claustrophobic and you aren't in an "Open" MRI machine. I know I was actually wondering if I was gonna fit in the tube, which is sad, cus I'm not really that big (5'11", 180LBS). I'm guessing/hoping that they stuck me in a kid's machine or something, cus I don't know how anyone any bigger than me would fit.

The procedure itsself isn't too bad, I was a little warm, could have used a little fan or something, but that was about the worst part.

I've had a couple MRI's for a few concussions I had from football. Word of advice, try not to fall asleep. The doctors really don't like that. And a few of them might wake you up in a quite hilarious and mean way.

Well, I got the report back, and the film, and my brain is officially "Unremarkable". I took a digital picture for funsies--to see it, go here.

I assume that good, right? Or is that bad? If it is bad, then get well soon.

It's good. It just means that my brain is as normal as a large mass of matter filled with sugary water can be.

Cool! The one with the glare from the flash kinda looks like StrongBad with a Fu Manchu mustache and devil horns. LOL

Thanks everyone! This MRI was actually only to rule out stuff like a tumor, and I think it did a good job at that.

Well, techinailly you're both right. Hens and chickens I believe are really the same thing. But I do use it for Chickens. Since you both got it, you cancel each other out and I keep the $$3, ha!

Weird how topics drift from MRI's to hens and chickens.

Anydangway, I'm getting a byopsy on Wednesday, which really has nothing to do with MRI's. But anyways. The thought of a tube going down my throat and taking some of my esophagus back up with it makes me shiver. Brrr.

Wow Fire Bird, I at least hope you'll be under general anaesthetic for that one. Best of luck!

I will be. The people I've talked to about it says you never know when it starts or ends.
