Well, you either take the blow to the ego by getting rejected, or by having someone else ask her out. Or she will say yes and you all will be happy.

My strategy was tag teaming the note with talking to her, I gather she likes notes because she's always writing them to her friends.

I'll go through with whatever I'm thinking. Alls I need now is MHG to give some feedback (she's the best with dealing with girls because she is one) and I'll be on my merry way.

EDIT: Seems my best friend is also trying to get the aformentioned girl, son of a monkey! This got 100 times more complex

if i were you, go for it as soon as you can. i would never forgive myself if i ended up chickening out of asking her, and it ended up with her going out with my best friend, and every day you would see them together and you would never have known what it would have been like if you had actually asked her. good luck man.

Okay, Tor. Sorry I was slow to reply, but last night was good TV night. :p

Here's what I think you should do: ask her out as soon as you can. Skip the note for now, at least until you know how she feels about you. It can be a strange thing for a girl to have a guy pour his heart out to her, especially if she doesn't feel as strongly. That kind of thing sort of makes her feel obligated to respond positively, even if she doesn't feel the same.

That same sort of thing happened to me just after I graduated from high school, and although I liked the guy, I wasn't crazy about him. I didn't want to hurt his feelings, since he was so open and honest with me, so I agreed to go out with him. I felt weird the whole time, and ended it after a couple of weeks. That was one of my most painful breakups, because I knew I hadn't been totally honest with him, and he was one of the nicest guys in the world, and I didn't want to break his heart. Well, I did anyway, and I still feel bad about it.

So I'd wait until you've been seeing each other for a little while before busting out the big guns. Once you know that there's potential for a real relationship, then you can let loose with all the mushy stuff. Just to protect your ego, y'know?

But I stand by my original advice: Make your move, and make it fast. Especially since your friend is also after her. He should know that you like her, right? So don't worry about hurting his feelings, especially if he knew you liked her before he decided he liked her. You have first dibs, so to speak. And, like Combat Wombat said, if you don't give it a shot, you'll always regret it.

I hope I haven't confused you more! Grood luck, my padawan. ;)

Trust me, it's better to try and get rejected than to not try and have someone get her instead. Because then you start thinking about thw what ifs...like what if I did ask her, what if she said yes......that stuff.

Ok, thanks MHG and Ramrod. I think that I'm going to task her out next tuesday.

You may now officially have your thread back Ramrod

Best of luck, Tor! Tasking someone out can be pretty nerve-wracking. ;)

she's been a bit distant lately, she's usually more flirty and playful but something was on her mind and I'm going to try and figure it out. If she's back to normal on monday then I'll go and try for tuesday if she isn't it'll be pushed back. I may not know much but I know one thing: people want to be asked out when they don't have something more pressing on their mind.

good thinking Tor. Don't blow it just because she's not in that frame of mind on that day. be patient.

:) patience is a virtue, virtue is a grace. And Grace is a little girl who didn't wash her face. :)

Wait, she's not called Grace is she? :p

Hey, Tor, if you ask her what's bothering her, she might be willing to share. Plus that makes you out as a sensitive guy. Brownie points!

Well, that's always a plus. I have learned that a girl will love a guy that will listen to her prolems.

I have also done the ultra nerdy thing of making mental lists of things I would want to do with a girlfriend once I got a steady one (flowers, notes poems, going and doing stuff or just staying inside and cuddleing) so I'll never be at a loss of stuff to do if we do happen to hit it off.

Yes, I'm a romantic at heart (don't tell anyone)

Hey, Tor; if you want an older (ahem, mid 20's) person's advice, above all else, just be yourself. If this chick doesn't like you for who you are, then forget her; she'll be missing out! Good luck, though anyway, I do remember what dating was like at your age.....actually....I didn't have a date until I was 19! Eep! But I was awkward and gangly, and I've made up for lost time! But I remember having crushes on guys and it not always going my way...but I digress. Don't worry if she rejects you - there's plenty of fish in the sea! (And I know it's easy for me to say that, but it's still true!)

Gosh! I was just watching the first version of Cheaper by the Dozen and the oldest girl got in massive trouble for cutting her hair short. And then for showing her knees while swimming. And then wearing high heels! All these things are acceptable today. What happened to the moral values? I mean, the inmodest swim suits back then are modest today. You can take a walk on the beach today and see girls almost naked. What happened?

That reminds me of that one scene in The Village where the girls says she loves this guy and goes into a long sermon about love, and the guy just gives her a weird look. Hee hee, that was funny!

I just watched that last night, sure gave me the shivers (The Village, not Cheaper By the Dozen). I'ma going to watch The Sixth Sense tonight...

Did this turn into a movie thread when I wasn't looking? :p Just kidding.

You've got to give it a chance, Tor, and I wish you the very best of luck.

Speaking of half-naked girls on the beach, I think most people should just put some freakin' clothes on. It drives me insane to see people wearing teeny little clothes, and guys walking with their shirts wide open. The beach is one thing, but going to the mall or walking down the street is quite another.

Well, being without a girlfrien isn't all too bad. I haven't had a girlfriend in almost 6 years. It gets annoying from my family though...
