In keeping with this tangent, thanks for reminding me of a great song, IJ. Most of my TMBG is on tapes that I've lost - I only have a couple of albums now and the Dial a Song CD set. And I had forgotten all about that song. One of my favourites. I love the backwards play-by-play. |

I love the backwards play-by-play. It's very sad that you've lost them. But yes, those are some of TMBG's most fun lyrics. "By rocket to the moon, by airplane to the rocket, by taxi to the airport, by front door to the taxi. By throwing off the blanket, hanging down the legs." I'm also a big fan of "I Palindrome I"'s palindrome verse: They Might Be Giants wrote: "Son, I am able," she said, "though you scare me."
"Watch," said I. "Beloved," I said, "watch me scare you." "Though," said she, "Able am I, Son." |

Okay, let's talk about TMBG. I realized that IJ and I seemed to be in danger of taking over doom's thread, so I decided to make a new one. Maybe someone with the power to do so can merge those few posts into here. As for the "I Palindrome I" quote, it was a long time before I realized it was palindromic. What a revelation! My boyfriend and I have decided that "First Kiss" will be the first dance at our wedding. |

Merge'd! The order's a little confusing, but whatevs. ModestlyHotGirl wrote: My boyfriend and I have decided that "First Kiss" will be the first dance at our wedding.
Do you mean "First Kiss" (which can be heard on Severe Tire Damage) or "Another First Kiss" (from Mink Car)? "Another" is a slower song, and seems more wedding-y to me. Both are great, though. So, been to any TMBG shows? I've seen them twice: once a couple years ago at the University of Iowa, and then last summer at the Barrymore in Madison. I think the Barrymore was a better show, not least because of the venue, but I'm still bummed that Dan Hickey is no longer with the band. Hickey's drum solo from She's Actual Size will be missed, along with the simple concept of a Band of Dans. But Marty has proved himself a very effective Dan, er, drummer. But speaking of the show at the Barrymore, it has a special place in my heart for two reasons: It's the first show I went to with my girlfriend, and I got a setlist signed by John F., Marty, and Dan Miller. Actually, now that I think of it, between my girlfriend and I there's quite a lot of things we have with at least one John's signature. Anyway, I'm rambling. For those who like TMBG and wikis, you should check out This Might Be a WIki. |

Whoops, I meant "Another First Kiss". There is some reasoning behind it - for Valentine's Day a few years ago, my boyfriend drove me (I was blindfolded) to the place where we had our first kiss, and started playing the song before he let me open my eyes. Cheesy, but sweet. Alas, I have never seen them. They played in Toronto a couple of years ago, but I didn't find out until after the show. They don't come near enough me often enough for me to have had a real opportunity to go, but it's a big dream of mine. My dream concert (now that Joey Ramone is dead |
