Trust me man, I've wanted to do that ever since I played my first video-game. But it's not that simple, this is for school, so it can't be that fun. But I promised myself to buy as much crap as possible.

Congrats on going to Japan! I went at the end of my grade 10 year on something called The Yamate Exchange (for two weeks, we went to Japan in the Tokyo area, and prior to this, for two weeks, a group of Japanese people stayed in Edmonton). I had a blast, and I'm sure you will too...here's what I remember...

I went to the Sony Building when I was Japan and they just released FFX (wasn't released here yet). I took a whole bunch of pictures and then when I walked out, I read the sign that said 'no pictures'. I like playing the innocent tourist card, even though I knew enough Japanese to get by and to understand someone if they told me to stop taking pictures. ... Oddly enough they didn't stop me.

Things I suggest doing:
- go to a Shinto shrine, and feed the koi and turtles (they scared the crap out of me, those koi make weird noises)
- buy some Japanese pastries (they will make you wonder how they learned how to do it)
- if you're near enough, visit Hakone Outdoor Museum, there are a lot of interesting displays you can play on
- if you're in a group (which I'm guessing you are), if you go to Tokyo Disneyland, you probably have a speed pass. I didn't realize this until the last hour. Go to the Haunted Mansion, it's awesome to hear the man speak in Japanese and have people scream and you only have a vague idea why. Also you might want to take a picture of the pavement in Tokyo Disneyland, SO CLEAN!
- visit at least two more amusement parks, Japan has tons!
- you must see a hanabi (fireworks) show! They may just put any other fireworks show you've seen to shame.
- speak as much Japanese as you can!

EDIT: Oh, speaking of Japan, I have a friend who is current doing the JET program (students who completed a Bachelor degree teaching english in Japan courtesy of Monbusho - ministry of Education in Japan), and he took a ton of pictures in Japan (he has a couple from his side trip to Korea). If anyone wants to look at those pictures, please go http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasohill/. BTW, I am posting URLs in a couple of my posts, but since they're related to the content in the forum thread, it's not considered spam right? ... Pretty sure. Anyway...long edit done.

It better be better than Euro-Disney. But I won't have time to go to Disneyland. As for everything else, I'm probably seeing them. And due to the fact that it's during summer, I'm almost positive I'll see hanabi.

Yup, Tokyo Disneyland is super clean, and super cool. We went there on my sister's birthday, and the guys in the Dwarf costumes were, um, a little too friendly! And we saw some ducks while we were eating lunch. Who knew ducks ate chicken?!

Too bad you won't have time, Cmarbagoi. You'll have fun at Harajuku, though. Tons of cool shops, and all the kids dress up crazily like 50s greasers, punks etc. 'Tis very cool.

But Car, please show us something from your trip, so we can be even more jealous of you.

There's no such thing as a "samuri" sword. Unless you're talking about the samurai sword, then there is such thing.

Kih-mar-bah-whatever, I dare you to go into the Sony building and start yelling "NINTENDO!". That would be frickin' hilarious.

And where are you leaving from?

Well, due to the fact that my teacher doesn't want any electronics to be brought, cept for cameras, probably sleeping. And since I live on the east coast it's probably either Chicago or some place on the west coast. I'm not really sure.

Hold up. You live on the East Coast yet you're leaving from the West Coast? This calls for only one thing.

You don't have a leg to stand on ramrod.

Here is a good tip for the flight from the US to Japan, sleep. I don't care what you have to do to get some but sleep. Drink water, helps keep Jet lag away. If you can't sleep pray they have a lot of good in-flight movies.

Yup, sleeping was definitely the thing to do on my flight to Japan. I went by myself, so I had no one to talk to, and luckily the plane was pretty empty. So I flipped up all the armrests in the middle set of seats, and stretched out. I don't remember all the movies they played, but they played Titanic and Blues Brothers 2000 (hey, it was 1998!), both of which I had already seen. They were fun to watch with Japanese dialogue over the headphones, though.

Jet lag on the way there wasn't so bad, but coming home was horrible. When I came home, I arrived here (Eastern time) before I had even left (Japan time). That was really weird.

I have been to Europe twice and both times I couldn't sleep on the plane, but they did have a bunch of great movies on the flight. Also make sure your plane has those little overhead vents on there. I was on a 13 hour flight back from Europe and the plane had no vents.

More like, fly from one aitport to another, until you get to the one you're leaving from. And beware of the movies playing on the flight...because they might just suck.

My uncle went to japan a couple winters ago (february 2003) and the movie he saw on the plane was Pearl Harbor. Go figure.

Fine then. Spoil my fun.

I've been on a plane twice. 45 minutes, Carolinas to Ohio. And then the trip back. No movies, barely any food.
