| Post subject: | PSP - Lumines! |
I don't actually own a PSP (*sniff*), but I have a really cool gaymer friend, and he lets me play his games all the time. I have to say that Lumines OWNS Tetris, and that the PSP is the neatest little handheld I have ever played, and I've been there from Game Gear to DS. Lumines is a 'falling-block' type puzzle game. You get a square made up of four little blocks (it can be a 1 colour or a mix of 2 colours, no more than 2), and you combine these little blocks into squares, rectangles....at the same time, you have what is called a 'timeline' continually zooming across the screen clearing your blocks that have combined into squares and rectangles. The most innovative part of the game is the music though. Every level has its own music and skin, and you pass levels to gain these skins and music. Every time you put down a block, it's part of the music. Clearing blocks adds more notes, and if you get a particularly big combo, you get a huge beat added to the music. It's by the same guy who made Rez for the PS2, and I have to say, I am completely addicted to this game. There's also a versus mode, which is pretty much like single, except the screen is divided in half and you play tug-a-screen with your enemy. The more combos you have, the more screen you have, and the less combos your enemy can make. You can also win things like avatars as well! I was a duck, but there's pigs and little discs too! There's also a puzzle mode in which you arrange the falling blocks into shapes. Has anyone else here played Lumines!? I love puzzle games, and the slick design plus awesome music have me totally addicted. For more information and some videos, please visit this gamespot link: http://www.gamespot.com/psp/puzzle/lumines/index.html?tag=mp_2to9 (It got 9.0 - superb - rating and editor's choice). EDIT: Removed owing Tetris, because of you 'classic' gamers.

Bah. Nothing can defeat Tetris. You can't compare some fancy shmancy PSP game to a classic like Tetris. |

Tetris is THE puzzle game. Without it, there would be no other puzzle games. You can talk about how great this other game is but you can't say it's better than Tetris. That's all there is to it.

Has anyone here defending Tetris played Lumines? Because, I LOVE Tetris, but I can see that technology is advancing and Lumines is really innovative. Lumines is just really fun and the best puzzle game I've seen in years (and I liked Bejeweled too). On an off-topic note, for anyone who wants some Nintendo humour, I would suggest http://www.milkandcookies.com/links/28721/. Yeah for acapella! |

Like everybody else has said, Tetris is THE puzzle game. Wihtout it, your Lumines wouldn't even exist. It doesn't matter how advanced it is, it's not like you can advance Tetris anymore (Tetris Worlds actually has...two...or three....fun modes other than the original). So yeah, saying Lumines pwns Tetris is like saying Prince of Persia pwns Super Mario 64. skyskid wrote: On an off-topic note, for anyone who wants some Nintendo humour, I would suggest http://www.milkandcookies.com/links/28721/. Someone already posted that somewhere

Polarium is cool too, but it will NEVER beat Tetris.

I've played Lumines, skyskid, and it really can't compare. It's fun and everything, but Tetris is a classic. I wouldn't have posted my opinion here if I hadn't played both games. I just think Tetris is better. |

I have played both as well sky, and while Lumines has great graphics and blah blah blah, nothing can compare to the classic. |

I'm not going to pursue the subject further, since I know when I'm beaten. I still think Lumines is a better game. I think it's like saying a laundry machine is better than a washboard. I mean of course the newer one is going to be better. But, I admit, both were innovative. I disagree with the fact that Lumines would not be here without Tetris though. I think someone else would have created a puzzle game even if the Russian guy never did. And also...I'm not really a gamer, but all I ever play are puzzle games. Maybe I take things for granted. But Tetris bores me after a while, and I've had much more fun with Lumines. So...to me it's better. |

Yup, it's a known fact that sequals are always better than the original
Yeah, I know what you mean though.... |

Lumines is the new tetris. Or something like that. They both rock, in their own little way |

No. It's a new puzzles game. Nothing replaces Tetris, fewl >_> That's like saying Fairy Bubbles (a neopets game) is the new Bust-a-Move. Which it isn't. |
