SOAD? They are, in my opinion, one of the best Rock bands of all time. I love Shimmy, Toxicity and Chic 'N' Stu. I would say Chop Suey as well, but since I heard miss Avril "I never learned music, but still think I'm the best punk artist of all time anyway" Lavigne's horrific take on the song, it just hasn't been the same.
Thus, my vendetta against Lavigne starts.....

Oh, and the reason why I loved the Strong Bad Sings cover was that it was so similar to SOAD's Steal This Album cover. Just for the record.

mmm... sugar

there's just something about those kombucha mushroom people. Lately though it has been tool and nin. I just got a new toy for my car and put all of the nin halos and 2 tool albums (aenima and undertow) on two cds. It is indeed a happy day.

I think the voice of Serj Tanken is as reconisable as that of Freddy Mercury (of queen)when you turn on the radio and you hear his voice you know it's SOAD

I really like SOAD too. Toxicity is a great album. And Avril Lavigne covered Chop Suey? I'll have to check that out, I can't reall imagine her singing it.

Did anyone else do the preorder thing? You know, the thing where you pay $15.98 and get the CD and a Mezmerize T-Shirt?

Still waiting for that doorbell to ring...

I never liked the CD/Shirt combos because the shirt is always folded into this tiny square and it gets really wrinkeled that way.

I have to get the new CD soon so I can listen to it on the way to Cape Cod

ya see, i like SOAD, but the way that rock is going theese days, soon itl be like rap, it'l get all political, because in the song B.Y.O.B, it talks about "our Facist Nation", i think thats wrong to talk about our countries political system in rock music, thats not what its all about, rock and roll was made in the honor of Partying and good times, or about love, sometimes, its not about Raging against the Political machine, or opposing our government system, if somthing happens in the news that doesnt matter to you, or your rock band, then it wont hurt you, so why cant they stop talking about our government? first it was rap with eminem,(though he proves a point), in his new CD, whatever it was called, encore, i think. but any old way, as a defender of Rock, i say the way the music sounds is good, but they shouldnt talk about our political system. its just wrong.

What?! First, who made the rules about what rock is supposed to be about? Second, how does the War in Iraq (what B.Y.O.B is about) not affect the band (much less anyone else in the world)? Guy, rock was never supposed to be about one single thing, and it has been an output of protest ever since the 60's (read: Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, John Lennon, U2, The Who and almost all other rock bands).

hey, professor tor coolguy, i know what rock is, and what the meaning of rock is, its about partying, havin fun, or in hendrix's exception, it can be about everything, but rock bands shouldnt be singing about the war in iraq, or anything like that, it should be about what every other band that paved the way for SOAD to sing about all this stuff, if u ask me, i blame society, and all you schmucks who think this war is bad, my brothers went in, and one of em got killed, u know that??!!!??? i dont wanna be reminded of the pain and sorrow i felt when those two guys in uniform drove up to our house, and presented us with a folded flag, and his DogTags. most of you probably dont know what its like to loose your best frind, ur brother, and your family member, and i listen to rock to get away from it all, but now since SOAD has started to make songs about the war, and other stuff like that, i cant go anywhere without seeing it! WHERE'S MICHALE SAVAGE WHEN YOU NEED HIM!!!!????!!!

EDIT: BTW, U2 Sucks.

what the $^#c& you talkin bout??? i am rock, i am rock! i know all forms, but this music is considered punk, which is a lower form of grunge, heres how it all goes, from hardest to softest:
METALICA>DEATH METAL>METAL>HARD ROCK> HIGH VOLTAGE ROCK>ROCK>GRUNGE>Rock N' Roll>soft rock.

and the sub form of Grunge goes like this:
Grunge>Punk
Grunge>Goth Rock
so basically, all grunge is is a lower set of high voltage rock n roll, but with a "U DONT RULE ME!" kinda feel.

So System of a Down should sing about how their girlfriend broke up with them at a rock show? No, they're singing about what they believe in, and THAT is what music is about. Also, Jimi Hendrix didn't sing about "everything", he sung mainly in protest. Ever hear his rendition of the national anthem at Woodstock? Hear the screaming, gunfire and chaos he represented in his guitar riffs? That and "All along the Watchtower" were about the Vietnam war.

I'm sorry that you lost your brother was killed in the war, but yes, I know what it's like to lose people close to you. Just last week, one of the closest people to my family died from cancer, and though that is not nearly as bad as losing a brother to a senseless war (or war in general), I understand grief. However, really, if you don't want to hear about something that's consuming 49% of America's economy and that's killing thousands a week, a music genre sired by protest is not the way to go.

hey, listen, i know everything that jimi has played, i have the actual recording of him Playing the national anthem at woodstock, my father WAS there!(and he had a hidden tape recorder so, yeah....) and ive learned how to play the exact way jimi played it, i also have the jimi Hendrix experiance wah wah pedal for my guitar. now enough about that, i just dont like it when people show their views on the government in song, its just not right, besides, most of them just show the people their views, but the government aint listening.

and hey, about scarface, scarface was the perfect movie, with the perfect bad guy, if there was no Scarface, then there would be no Grand Theft Auto. think about, dudes, think about it......

If there was no Godfather there would be no Scarface or GTA.

WHOA WHOA WHOA! Easy there killer. You got that all wrong. Punk was around long before Grunge. Ever heard of bands called "The Clash," "Sex Pistols," "The Dead Kennedys," or "The Ramones." Those are Punk bands. Real Punk bands.

And one more thing. There are few bands before Metallica in you little rundown. BLACK SABBATH, Judas Preist, Venom, etc. With out them Metal would never have been born.

hey, woah, woah, hay, Metalica is the hardest living band there is, and plus black sabbath was under the catagory of Heavy Metal. judas preist would not have made it big if it wasnt for AC/DC choosing them as the show openers for their american highway to hell tour. sex pistols are hair metal and,(ohh crap, i forgot to put hair metal on there! darn me!), and the ramones, heh, well, the ramones just suck......really bad.

This is a thread about System of a Down, and their new album. Not an argument about what is and isn't rock, or about who knows more than the other. If you want to fight about that, take it somewhere else, please.

I listen to SOAD occasionally on the radio. I don't buy their albums though. I don't really buy that much music, I just listen to the radio, it's a lot cheaper.

My guess is that they were B.Y.O.B and Cigero, they are the two lesser tracks on the album.

Exactly. Sad Statue, This Cocaine makes me feel like I'm on this Song and Radio/Video are definitely the best three songs on the CD.

(Garaharaharharhahrarjahajrfsjd, I got the CD in the mail today, along with this witchin' T-Shirt featuring the creepy Mezmerize pendulum guy.

I also don't like when you open up your T-shirt square and you find out the shirt is crap/creepy. It makes you not want to wear it
