What's the worst thing you've ever done to your computer, by accident or on purpose?

I once froze the computer completely, without having any idea how on earth I did it. The mouse wouldn't move, Ctrl+Alt+Del wouldn't work, and the compy wouldn't even turn off. Then my dad walked in, worked his miracles, and it was working momentarily.

Dad magic.

Well... I froze up, so I ctrl del alt'd it, and nothing happend. so it held it down...and when the compy came to it had like 30 windos task managers on it.

Also speaking of which, I got some kinda virus that occasionally 300 IE windows will open up. No foolin

I can't really remember the worst thing that happened to my computer. To many of 'em, I guess.

Gotta love it. ;)

Anyway, the worst thing I ever did...was somehow download crap on my computer which gave me over 20 or 30 kinds of adware and a virus my computer couldn't detect, be we were sure we had it.

One time my mom borrowed my computer for a little while
she gave it back a half hour later FULL of HUNDREDS of spyware. I was up late for quite some time until FINALLY I got rid of it. And it was NOT easy.

Well, this is something I did several weeks ago.

See, I was under the impression the original file did NOT need to be apparent for a short-cut to work. So I was deleting my giant folder with alla my media stuff (most is illegal crap I got off kazaa, which I will never use again >_>;; ). Problem was, the file was too big for my trash can, so it asked me if I wanted to permenantly delete all of it And of course, I said yes. Immidiately I realized that's the stupidest thing I've ever done. I only just got it back, and I am in eternal debt to the guy that brought the stuff back u.u (which wasn't my dad though XD)

Let's just say that highlighting everything on your desktop and pressing enter on the computer in computer class is not a good thing....Especially when your cpmputer teacher is right there.....

I wanted my computer to make the *beep* noise, so I pressed as many keys as I could simultaneously...Needless to say CRASH'D

I also remembered before I got spyware doctor, I had 1178 cases of spyware on my comp. 1178!!! I saw the number and went crazy.

One time my brother accidentally downloaded a virus over MSN. It wouldn't have been so bad if I had waited for my dad to get home, but nooooo. I had to prove I was a computer genius person. CRASH'D.

I can't get viruses, because my net's too slow to download them.

The worst thing I ever did to my compy, eh Steve?

Put dial-up on it.

On a related note, I once smashed an AOL free trial CD with a large crowbar(my weapon of choice).

I can imagine so. Fun with crowbars!

Every American probably gets at least five of those CDs each year. I hate 'em.

I shorted out my last motherboard. I'm not sure how, but somehow a tiny metal shaving got into my case and my compy (affectionately called Smurfzilla) would not boot. I would press the button, the lights and fans would come on, and then it would turn off. Finally I got around to opening the case up, and I saw that every time I pressed the power button large sparks were shooting out of the motherboard near the video card.

I gave it a thorough cleaning, but it was too late, the thing was nuked. So I borrowed a bunch of money from my mom and got a brand new motherboard. Now, I'll never complain about having a new motherboard, but it was still a huge hassle.

click profile
in the text boxes, one of them is labeled "name:" and it'll have your name in it
change the text in the text box to what you want it to be and click save

I think the worse I did was that when I was baleeting some spyware when I accidentily delorted Windows. But I did get a new compy, so all's well.

You can delete Windows?!!? Whoa!
Anyway, I was talking to a friend online that showed me a download and said it was awesome. I had trusted him at the time. It downloaded a virus, which made the mouse button opposite, everything enlarged, and I couldn't run my virus program.

Yeah, I never knew you could do that as well. But It happened. And I didn't want to spend the money to fix it when I could just get a new one.

I don't like that attitude. Somebody gets a "virus" (probably closer to a prank program) and they don't want to spend $75 to fix it, but instead $700 on a new computer.

I get about one a month. I could get free internet off of that.

Ok, I have a laptop that has no cdrom/floppy drive, and I was reinstalling windows by butting the HD in another computer then putting it in my laptop. Heh, I didn't know that the "power" button would also put it into sleep mode. So I yanked the HD while it was still on. It made some scary sounds. Still works, tho.

Kupo - In case you're in the process of installing Windows now, you would have to start the installation from Windows or DOS, otherwise it would b0rk up pretty badly because the laptop would use a different set of drivers than the desktop.

Somehow my computer got this really stupid filter that kills the internet when certain words are there. It also disables my anti-virus software, which really, REALLY sucks.

Ooh. Cool. I'd try that, but how do you reverse it?
