I am seeking help in the photoshop area. The title is the type of photoshop i am running. Is there a possibility of making transparency in this photo editor?

Well, what I do is make a new file with a transparent backround. Then I drag the image that I want to make transparent. Then I erase the part of the image that I don't want.

ok, i figured that out, but i can't seem to make the image flat so that i can use it as PNG or GIF. How can i do that?
