Nobody knows what a hectare is. Don't feel left out.

Google knows. A hectare is one one-hundredth of a square kilometer, or about 2.5 acres.

Yeah, that's all just words. Stop saying words.

I mean that I can't visualize a hectare like I can a metre or a kilometre. ;)

ok, i'am a canadian (québéquois) and i can tell you: there is NOTHING of complicated in the metric system:
it's based on a 10 unit system:
there is the "prefixe" behind the unit of mesure, so:
0,001mm = 0,01cm = 0,1dm = 1m = 10dcm = 100hm = 1000km
these are the meters, notice than the number between dm and dcm have no "prefixe" behind him, this number is the base number

Just to clarify - everyone, when it comes to numbers, French people put commas whereas we would put decimals and vice versa. (Bienvenue au wiki, Eh! Steve! J'espère que vous avez beaucoup d'amusement!....My French is a little rusty...)

What does bother me is people who are convinced that using the imperial system means that Americans are dumb.

I don't think you're dumb (whoever said that...I'm quoting from Eh! Steve!), heck, you all MUST be smart...I can't figure out the American system!

Totally lovin' metric,
SC

The sad thing about me is I am caught between the imperial and metric systems, depending on whether I learned the measures from my parents (remember, metric was only brought in in the late 1960s) or from school. I use imperial for weights, measures, and height, and metric for distance and temperature. I cannot convert bewteen the two on any counts.

When you (any Canadian) pronounce kilometer, how do you pronounce it?

Kill-o-meter or kill-ometer?

And is it Celsius or Centigrade?

Author:  StrongRad [ Thu Jun 23, 2005 5:37 pm ]
Post subject:

I use both, just depending on what I'm doing. I can convert between the two pretty easily (with a calculatior), too. I don't see why people are so opposed to one system or the other. Of course, I DID take a lot of geography, physics, and chemistry classes in college. You do those conversions so may times you don't even think about it.

[sarcasm=very yes]Wow, a cheap shot at the president! Never saw that one coming. [/sarcasm]
I will agree that America isn't the smartest nation, as a whole, but ya know, we've come up with some pretty cool stuff. Maybe, if we just kicked out all of the stupid people, we'd be a lot smarter.

I know metric, so I should be able to survive.. Wait, I don't know too much French.. umm, I can learn that.

That, my long haired brother, is why you go with someone that does know French, like myself. I can amaze all the ladies with all my French-ness. Like, "Je suis la jeune Fille!" I think that means something.......

Not all of us. I'm working all weekend. My crew's next day off is like Wednesday. I really hate it for my guys, I promised them I would do EVERYTHING I could to get them this weekend off, and I failed. Stupid people in charge get THEIR weekend off, but the buttholes (I want to say something else, but half of my anger would get me banninated) in Bentonville don't really care about the people under them. Let's see them renovate that store when my entire crew quits .
The only thing worse would be if they actually had to work the store. At least most of our time is spent in the back rebuilding the back room and adding shelving to the new stock room.. I can't imagine having to be out on the floor with all the morons that come in. [/work rant]
