Hey DG, I see your point. And you're right. Most of us wouldn't even know about Anime if it wasn't for the crappy dubs on Cartoon Network.

Here's what bugs me: A great deal of so-called "Otaku" have never moved on from that. They remain stuck in the world of 4Kids, sure that they're receiving the best anime ever. They run around brandishing their Yu-Gi-Oh cards going "LYK OMG!!1one11!!! I TAPE EVERY EPISODE OF DRAGONBALL GT, CUZ IT'S ANIME AND IT'S COOL AND IT ROXORS MAH SOX!!". They're what I like to call...posers, who have never been exposed to real anime. That's what bugs me about 4Kids and the like: They've created a race of ignorant anime fans, who drool over Yu-Gi-Oh and DBZ and the like.

Poor souls...they don't know what they're missing...so naive...

That's exactly what I was back about two years ago, when I decided to make a Hotmail account with the word "otaku" in it. >.> I would never describe myself with that word today.

Good thing I learned of teh ebil dubbing early on when I decided to research everything and anything on DBZ when I was 9 >_>!

Try Googling "The Twelve Kingdoms" or something. That is AWESOME anime that I got the first 9 DVDs of for FREE because my Big Sister's brother works on the animations! It's got, um, blood, and all that other stuff they cut out of the 4Kids animes.

As far as Teen Titans, I love that show. I downloaded the full version of the theme song for my iPod. I don't really think it can be classified as anime. It's a different kind of cool cartoon. Totally Spies I used to like, but now hate, for much the same reason as for the Powerpuff Girls: I thought I liked 'em, until I realized it was only because I am an overzealous feminist (15/16, about, of my stuffed animals are female).

Yu-Gi-Oh = from what I've seen on Cartoon Network,

THE LAMEST CRAP EVER INVENTED.

I don't doubt the real show is better. But in 5th grade, all my friends were into it and they never played with me at lunch because they were too busy playing dumb duels with their dumb cards. And the show, when I first watched it, almost gave me a heart attack. Yugi? He looks like a kid, but had this weird MANLYMANVOICE.

I also used to be into Pokemon, until I realized how hard it sucked.

Teen titans rules I do not think it's wannabe anime, Its a different kinda cartoon. But the truly, TRULY lamest crp ever is megaman, blech.

Get your facts right, that's when he's the Pharaoh (Atemu), or Yami as they've called him for most the American version.

I'm not going to argue with you about the quality of the show, but I'm just gonna say that some Yu-Gi-Oh fans are the stupidest of the bunch. Yeah....

I'm still recovering from watching that. And that was over a year ago, and I'm a solid, hardcore anime fan.

I saw the one on Saturday, which I had never seen before. Apparently the girl (who's name I can't remember, but she became the monster) played a much bigger part in the manga. Though it was odd to see a robot come out of somebody else's head.

Anyone who never saw FLCL would probably not be able to follow that sentence at all. :p

Hate to break it to you, my fellow anime-types, but dubs are an unfortunate fact of western-world life. I totally sympathize, though. As a film major and almost-certainly eventual film professor, I LOATHE dubbing. DESPISE it. I want to BURY DUBBING IN A GIANT VAT OF CHOLERA. You see, Hollywood still doesn't understand that animation is not ALWAYS the substance of children, nor does it believe that you can turn a profit by "making people read." I swear, whenever somebody grumbles about having to read subtitles to me, I want to kick them in their mainstream shin. But I don't. I just watch Mugen do it in Samurai Champloo, and thank my relatively lucky stars that Adult Swim brought this show to my attention so I could skip on out and rent it like a good n' proper (geeklish) anime-type. :P

You see, things are slowly improving. Think about it. Adult Swim has almost-literally opened up anime to a whole 'nuther generation, annoying though they sometimes may be, and that generation is now able to recognize the fact that Hollywood doesn't own the world -- and perhaps, just perhaps, they can even recognize that there are other ways of approaching film out there. I'd say that's a very great thing indeed.

And I've said it before, and I'll say it again. FLCL = RAMPANT PHALLIC SYMBOLISM'D!! And also mopeds!

Shonen Jump isn't as good as you might think. I've heard complaints from friends about the quality of translation in things like Naruto.

And I'm not a big fan of One Piece, but I believe they changed Zoro to Zolo when the anime came onto TV....

Yeah, they did. I dunno why, but they did. Maybe Zolo sounds more...Japaneese? (Scratch that, that made no sense)

I, too long to know how to read Japaneese. Btw, you have Detective Conan? I loved that in the anime!

As far as Yu-Gi-Oh! goes, I'm not gonna watch the strange show with the overstuffed fanbase and the kid with the weird hair that looks like a comic book explosion. Seriously, you could just write "BLAMMO!!!" on the guy's hair!

I despise the 4Kids Yu-Gi-Oh fans... -_-

3=======

I shall get them with my dumb ASCII pitchfork!

And my equally dumb torch!

XD Yeah. I kinda cringe when someone says the name "Amelda" or "Duke." Joey is probably the only one I don't really mind....

Yeah, but it's some special edition one, seeing as there are like, a bajillion volumes of manga for that anime.

Bad fanbases are everywhere. The Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh fads were terrible. I still have Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh stuff. *shudders*

I put all my Pokemon cards away in this shoebox in storage. In there would also be my Digimon, DBZ, and other random cards.

However, I actually kinda sorta play Yu-Gi-Oh, so I'ma keep those cards. Been too lazy to get my deck in order though.

My Pokemon cards are still in my dumb lil' green binder with the card storage sheets. I never really played the TCG, just collected the cards. As for Yu-Gi-Oh!, I might have gotten into the cards if everybody else hadn't gotten into them first. I really only hated the show, in retrospect, because I hated the cards. And I only hated the cards because everybody else was "dueling" that is so dumb a term it makes me want to cry and had no time to play with me at recess.

Argle. It's the revival of AFAA. But in a good way! On Cartoon Network, they're showing the first episodes of DBZ...UNCUT! When I saw the blood, I was so happy! (Is that creepy?) 'Nyways, thought I'd lets y'alls know. It's on at 10:30 PM (EST).

Xiaolin Showdown is pretty good. It's definitely the best "anime-inspired cartoon" out there, though that isn't saying much.

However, the thing it's got is a bit of a continuos plot, which makes it very anime like.

Not all Anime is like DBZ which goes on forever and ever. Some anime such as Evangellion(SP?) Samuri Champloo and LAIN(SP?) which are only about 20 or 30 episodes long. And then you have the others like Naruto which became a big hit and goes on for 100+ episodes and after that is DBZ in a class of its own with as many episodes and movies as there are stars in the sky.

The only deent thing on Miguzi is Teen Titans. And I think that's from Japan, too. But whatever. The name Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: what kind of bored-out-of-his-mind lame person would come up with a name as lame as that one? I mean, seriously. Teenage. Mutant. Ninja. Turtles.
