Okay, i wonder this due to the lack of a lot of updates lately from H*R: is there anyone who makes lengthy flash cartoons(lengthy being the average length of a sbemail)? because i'm just curious of how long it takes to finish a cartoon. The artists on flashplayer.com say things like "after so many months, i'm done!" and it's really just a short film.

That's because those guys are amateurs doing it in their spare time.

As has been mentioned in many interviews, Strong Bad emails take TBC about a day to do (like an entire day, not just 9-5). "Flashback" took them 48 hours.

Anyway, I nominate this thread for Best Title Ever.

It really all depends on what you're doing and how you're doing it.

TBC have every little part of their characters as a symbol, so it's easy to just cut and paste and switch around symbols.

Also, a lot of their stuff is just tweened. Not too much frame-by-frame, which also takes pretty long.

yeah, like do they just draw the sketches on the mainpage, or do they draw individual pieces to a cartoon first...seems like that would take longer..and then they have to record and such..there'a nother question..how do they get the voices and animation to match up. whenever i ask that, peaople always say "they record first" but that does nothing for me.

It took me 7 months to make Sad and Lonely, which is about 4 minutes long. But I've been working on a whole lot of stuff, and the music video wasn't always at the top of my list... look out for another soce video.. at... some ... point...---

That was pretty cool. But you'll never get on MTV... You never rapped about your Escalade, or your 3 houses, or your 60000000000000000 women, or your 400 gold chains... You know I'm kidding right? That was pretty tight... And, of course, Dancing Clouds part 3... that was hillarious for some reason..
Soce 4 life, Suckaz!! I like that.
And you're right, it's got some adult stuff in it. Not quite forum approved, but it's still pretty cool.

No kidding. That would be a great title for a documentary.

Indecent Productions Presents...

Flashers of the World: A Look Through Their Eyes

(Only here on Channel 89 UHF Public Television. Dong diiiing!)

Are there any real places where I can buy flash. I don't like to make internet purchases. Then again it really doesn't matter since I'll never be able to meet wikipedia's average price for flash. It said it was a little bit under $400 dollars! I was expecting it to be like $100.

That's probably the whole package of Macromedia stuff, including Flash, FreeHand, that web page thingy, and a buncha other stuff. Try looking for Flash by itself. That should cost about 100 bucks. Do they sell Flash by itself? I have no clue.

There goes my hopes and dreams. I guess I'll stick to making animated cursors.

Isn't it sad I get my hopes and dreams crushed on my 300th post.

i'm so lucky. My dad is a computer programmer, and he has a client who works at my house..and he deals with grapohics and such sometimes
and so he installed tons of macromedia stuff, such as flash MX(flash 6.0), Dreamweaver, Extension Mangager, Freehand, and Fireworks...now i don't know what any of that stuff (besides flash) is, but i'll check them out later..but i got them for free, basically...so..lucky me...flash is fun to play with..but lately i just make images on it...or at lewast edit images.

Whoo- I was kinda scared when I first clicked on this... :p

Anyways, I do not know anything about flash, but I'm hoping either I can learn or find a friend who can do it well, as I'm currently writing a few scripts for a web cartoon I'm planning to launch pretty soon. I'll probably make a topic for it when I do.

Anyways- so yeah, I'm not a flasher yet, but- you know, I'm getting pretty close. Pretty soon, I'll be, like, flashing left and right. I'll be all, like, "Ooh, you want some flash? Here take it! (BOOSH!) I flashed you!"

Alright, I got a bit overbard there. Sorry. (BRAAAAAAAMP)

Oh, guess I've stopped being funny- if I even started. Bye, everyone.

and now- the tongue emoticon :p .

Okay i've had this idea forever. A kitten walks around doing normal things. In a human world. No one seems to notice. Then, at the end, Kitty's bakin some cookies or something. He puts on an oven mitt, reaches for the other, but then his head falls off. And just stay on the scene for about a minute or two. Then um..show a picture of a police man setting up crime scene tape...No, no, no CUT! It needs to be a mailman. Action! Oh wait...heh, sorry got a little ahead of myself there...Okay then as the credits go by, gratifying random inanimate objects for their obsurd services, all the time while showing those animated of the characters messing up and saying "Oh, geez, what is it? Okay do it again." And then at the end write in the most childish fon tyou can find, " For Duct Tape Patrol, 1930-1978 and um...just for effects, draw a sad face behind my bad news...Yeah...you can't even IMAGINE how many awards that will get you.

Uhh... because this thread showed up after I got Flash, I had no wrong impressions in my mind. (I also didn't understand... because I didn't have any wrong impressions)

But anyway, how long to make a cartoon? It took me 2 and a half months to make So Late, which is 4 min. 20 sec. long (or somewhere about there). Now I'm making Hippo Monkey 2, so far it has taken me about 3 weeks, for about an hour each day, and I have like, 2 min. 30 sec. Go figure. But don't expect it any time soon. Even though a lot of you hate my flashwork. Hey, it's constructive criticism! I'll change my art style as somebody said I had the skills of The Cheat, and the vocals... I don't know what's wrong with them, they're just fuzzy!

So let's see... by comparing the data of the time and length of the two cartoons, we can safely say that animation becomes quicker over time. I have had Flash for 8 months. So, 8 months is 2/3 of a year, which means TBC have had Flash 7 1/2 times as long as me. Then 21/(7+1/2) = a little less than 3. SO! Assuming there is a pattern, it takes them about 3 days to make a cartoon, an hour each day. But that makes no sense. So there probably isn't a pattern, because I don't think ANYBODY can make a cartoon in 3 hours. Sorry for wasting your time. I though I could help.

Actually, they say they start on a SB email on Friday or somewhere through the weekend. So unless they do something else besides a SB Email, I'm sure they spend an hour or two checking e-mails and working on small stuff.

But what do I know?

I'd like to see a Daft Punk flash with Homestar singing it. It'd be awesome what with the square mouth and stuff.
