Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - Some Spoilers!!!

Well, its getting close enough I figured we could start a topic on the newest chapter in the HP saga. Here talk about how excited you are and your predictions for the next novel.

Personally, although I'm not as anxious as I was for 5, because its been less time and it didn't end on as big of a cliffhanger, I literally can't wait much longer. I'm real excited about this, because on jkrowling.com, she says many of the thins she's been hitning at with subtle clues thru the first 5 will finally be revealed here in 6...

As for predictions, I think they'll meet a prince of mixed descent.

That sounds reasonable.

And we didn't preorder it, we're just going to be at Wal-Mart when it opens at 7 AM, like with HP5. Makes things easier. We found out that preordering from Amazon was a BAD THING with ASoUE: Book the 10th, when it came 6 days after the book was released.

I can't wait for the book. The Harry Potter books are really the only books I actually enjoy reading. Ya, I'm excited. I'll probably end up getting it the day it comes out, at Best Buy, like I did for the fifth one.

Ooh. I can't wait. I think it'll have at LEAST a friendship between Harry and Luna Lovegood in there, it's hinted at in the end of Order of the Phoenix. Ah, yes, a prince of mixed descent:

Hermione: Hi Harry, Ron. Can you believe it? Our sixth year at Hogwarts! What do you think will happen this year? Harry: I think we'll meet some sort of prince. Of mixed descent. Hermione: Don't be ridiculous!

I read 5 right after it came out, but now that I think about it, I can't remember anything that happened in it. (There was some sorta secret club...?) Well, I remember books I like, so I'm not really looking forward to the next one. But I'll probably read it anyways. It's kinda weird; I really liked the other ones. Maybe I'm growin' up. Or maybe it's that now I know good fantasy when I read it. Well, I've got nothing better to do with my summer. Bring it on.

Hey, Order of the Phoenix is good! I mean, compared to the first book, it's much better. The first book was freakin' short! The fourth book is still the best though in my opinion. It had all the funny stuff (besides the bit in Book 1 where George expresses his opinion that their mother puts their initials on their sweaters so they don't forget their names, and then remarks, "But we're not stupid - we know we're called Gred and Forge.").

This is the first book since they started doing midnight releases that I'm not going to be there for the release at Barnes and Noble.

I'm pretty sure it will be good, but it won't the same obseesion as it was for the past three books. I wonder what will happen.

I'm REALLY pumped for this one, having read all the previous novels four times each. However, that Saturday I'm going to my fiance's family reunion..which will delay my reading of the book...now THAT'S dedication people!

Still reading 4. Only just started it. Didn't start reading Harry Potter until recently, but enjoy them so far. Ran out of 1st person pronouns. Must Talk Like Bill Shatner!

Well, perosnally, I find people who refuse to accept Harry Potter as a significant fantasy series and dismiss it as a kids' book are extremely immature. And people who assume Lord of the Rings fans and Harry Potter fans have to be at war at all times are doubly so.

Anyways, I suspect in this book, Neville will be revelaed to be of great significance ot the fullfillment of the prophecy. After all, he WAS the other option for Lord Voldything.

I do accept it as a bonafide fantasy book. I've seen middle-aged people without kids reading it. Can't I grow out of things without labeling them?! But, anyway, I've still read better. Like the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane, which is in the same genre as Harry Potter, or at least I think it is...

I'm super excited, and even moreso since I work at a bookstore. We're opening at 12:01 am to release the book, and we're having a Potter Party for 100 kids who've signed up for Boarding Passes. One of the girls at work has painted up our storefront windows beautifully - Harry and the Dragon from GoF on one, Sirius as Padfoot on another, and a Dementor on the other. I'm so excited!!

Personally, I enjoy the Harry Potter series. When it comes out, my sister will be paying for it and thus reading it first, but I'll get to it soon after. I think Harry Potter is really kind of in a genre all its own. It's mostly fantasy, with some odd British humor mixed in.

There are better fantasy novels, though. Wheel of Time, anyone? Lord of the Rings? Did I mention Wheel of Time?

one of the later books i've read on the same HP dirt road of fantasy is Eragon by christopher Paolini. Pretty good. He was like..16-19 when he wrote it...So it has a lot of the imagination that its readers usually have

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I love the books. Everyone knows British humor is the best kind - if you don't believe me, go watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Eragon is really great. Christopher Paolini was 15 when he started writing it, and I think it took about 4 years or so for him to finish it. Eldest is coming out next month!

BOT: I am indeed getting more and more excited for HPVI every day. Taking tons of preorders at work helps, too!

The Eldest is coming out!? Wish I hadn't read Eragon so long ago. Now I barely remember any of it.

I remember counting the minutes til the 5th one came out, but I could really care less now. I'm still going to read it (I've preordered it already), but I'm just sort of grown out of Harry Potter. Or realized that it isn't the best in the world... not even close. That honor belongs to Little Green Men by Christopher Buckley.

Personally, I find Harry Potter to be excellent not because it is the greatest concept in the world (far from it), but merely one of the best written ones. Therefore, the plot seems much moredetailed, planned-out, and overall, more creative, then it actually is, just because Jo has perfected her writing voice so well.

I'm not going to say its the best thing out there, but it probably is in the top 10 or 20 novel series.
