The original always scared me very much as a child -- I had no grasp of sarcasm, and was thusly plunged into horror over the thought of anyone allowing kids to be sucked up into tubes and rolled away toward furnaces. Long since cured of my scaredy-kitten nature, however, I'm seeing it with a mad, mad, mad group of hattertypes, plan to enjoy it thoroughly, and shall have to restrain myself from jumping up to maul the Johnny-laden screen. Though I do plan to see the version which observes proper spelling. GRAMMAR CRUSADE'D!! |

When iw as a kid I would watch the original day after day, I just loved it so much. You can bet I'm going to see the theatrical film, I mean how can you go wrong with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp? How!? |

lets see 2/3 movies I've seen have been on opening day and that first one was because I was still in school, so I'll probably see it when it first comes out, the first showing possible. I think its going to be good. I think in some ways the original will surpass it, while in other ways the new one will be better. |

I loved the first one, so I am worried that I won't be able to forget about Gene Wilder and all of that, and then spend the entire time comparing them, and then I won't like it at all, even though it may be better. |

I feel the same way. In my opinion, Gene Wilder was the perfect actor to play Willy Wonka. Hopefully Johnny does a good jorb. My botfriend refuses to see it, though, as he hates Johnny Depp. So I'll have to round up some gallies to go with me. |

He's just intimidated by Johnny's hottness. Preeoww. I'm looking forward to the film, but I agree on the Gene Wilder sentiments. However, Wilder himself has said that if he had done the casting, he would have cast Depp himself. So I think we're in for a good show. |

I liked Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka. And Young Frankenstien. To be blunt, the Depp Wonka kinda freaks me out. Like when they made The Cat in The Hat a movie. That cat was quite freaky. |

I think Johnny Depp was a good choice for Willy Wonka, not to mention the brilliant mind of Tim Burton is behind this, so we should be in for a show. |

He's supposed to freak you out. Gene Wilder was super-freaky in the original -- remember Augustus? "The suspense is terrible.. I hope it lasts." And (deadpan) "Help. Police. Murder." Willy Wonka is a sadist. |

Now I like Jonny Depp, but his costume is freaky. That's one of the things I like about the character Wonka, though. He just doesn't care. |

In the original, Wonka was creepy in a subtle, not-quite-right way. From what I've seen in the trailers, it looks like the new version will have him being super-wacky and over the top. I don't think it'll work as well. |

I always thought it was strange that the original movie was a musical with only five songs. Apparently this one has no songs. I can't wait to see it! |

I agree with DG. And he also looks freakishly like Edward Scissorhands. (I know, I know, probably because he WAS Edward Scissorhands...) But still, I don't like him. |

Well, they gots-ta have the Oompah-Loompah songs. If they don't, then the movie is not worthy of being called "Willy Wonka". |

I'm absolutely huge on the original Charlie/Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory book and movie, not to mention Roald Dahl books, but as a fan (and also a Johnny Depp supporter, to a lesser degree) I hope I'm not alone in having no interest in seeing this at all. Some things just don't need to be remade, and it doesn't look all that promising from the previews. What's next, a Bad News Bears remake? Oh, wait. CRAP!!! |

I'm not really interested in this movie. I liked the original, but nothing about this one seems very interesting. |

Yeah man, I love eating nerds! They're so small and crunchy. Mmmm... But the new Willy Wonka movie looks great. I think Depp was a great choice for Mr. Wonka. |

Yeah. He has just the right kind of creepiness. The only person who could have played it better was on trial recently. |

That's a cute sentiment, but ultimately a myth. Marilyn Manson allegedly wanted the role badly, but was never in consideration. And as soon as Tim Burton signed on, Johnny Depp was really the only option. |

This reminds me of my crazy theory about willy wonka. He is an agent from the future sent back to eliminate future terrorists. The golden tickets were planted so each of the target children would get one. Willy Wonka was to have them neutralize themselves in his factory filled with future technology. Since he failed to eliminate one of the children, he decided to escape with him. I wonder if they'll make a great glass elevator movie. |

Tim Burton has said unequivocally that he will not. But it wouldn't surprise me if Warner does. |

In a Newsweek interview with Johnny Depp: Has the studio talked to you about doing "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator"? No, but it should be done. There's a lot more fun stuff in there, and I'm certainly game. link: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/8358265/site/newsweek/ |

I've seen the promos, and it just looks too weird to be Johnny Depp. It should have been Jim Carrey, IMO. Everyone's used to seeing him in weird get-up. |
