One giant leap for mankind.

Remember those words? I was just a few months old when they were spoken exactly 36 years ago today, on July 20, 1969.

HAPPY MOON DAY!

To commemorate the occasion, Google has released Google Moon.

It's great how it turns into cheese when you zoom in all the way.

They are all in the same area, NASA could have at least tried to land some where else.

The Moon landings were cool, I don't think they were a hoax. I hope that we get to see them have a Mars landing soon.

Well, the had to make sure that they didn't land on the Dark Side of the moon, or else they would be lost in an infinate blackness.

Take a look at this image:

I wouldn't exactly call that "all in the same area." I'm just guesstimating, but I'd say that the Apollo 12 and Apollo 17 sites are at least 1,000 miles apart.

In the google pic it looked like they were all close together. This pic looks much better.

Happy Moon Day!!
That Cheese thing, priceless!

I wish you could zoom in to see the landing sites, but I'm guessing those pictures are sat. pics, so seeing the landing sites on them would be impossible. Still, it'd be a pretty pretty cool.
I like the moon!

On a related note, the Saturn V rocket on display at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL is undergoing a restoration. If you ever get a chance, you should check that thing out. The diagrams you see of it next to school buses and stuff give you no idea how big it is. You have to see one in person to truly appreciate the size. IT'S HUGE!

Now, in honor of their flight, I'm gonna go drink a bottle of soy sauce and fly my house to the moooooooooooooooooooon!

Man, that thing is so cool. I can't believe it's been 36 years. Seems like yesterdsy when I was watching the landing on the TV. But back then we only had an old Black and White TV. Times were tough then.....

Happy Moon Day! On an interesting side note, did you know Neil Armstrong actually flubbed his line, which is now one of the most famous lines in America? It was supposed to be "This is one small step for a man; one giant leap for mankind. If you don't believe me, check out Snopes! http://www.snopes.com/quotes/onesmall.asp

A projection or perhaps a painting. The moon MIGHT be real though. I'm not sure. Space seems too impossible to be real. Its probably just a hoax.
Dinosaurs are DIFINATELY a hoax, though.

It's definitely not a painting. Paintings don't change (unless someone in Harry Potter made it?). I guess a procection is possible, but what would they project it onto? And where would they project it from so you can see it from anywhere on Earth? And where would they get all the time and money to make all the stuff? Are you saying that there is no space and the only thing that exists is the earth? Sorry for all the questions.

That's because Apollo 13 went to Mars, not the moon. That's a common misconception.

Well, since NASA grounded Lt. Dan (for fear of measles) and still let Forrest onto the space craft, some bad things happened, and it didn't get to land on teh moon... You can see their planned landing site (the Frau Mauro Highlands) because that's where Apollo 14 landed.

Does the line, "Houston, have a problem," ring a bell.

I like SR's explanation better: Forrest Gump pushed the wrong button again.

[Accent=slow heavy drawl] "I guess I shounta pushed none of them butt-tons! My mama told me not to push no butt-tons unless I knows what they dooeees!" [/accent]

That made my day.

Kind of reminds me of Yogi Bear. "Do you know where my pic-a-nic basket is?"

If they landed on the dark side of the moon they would have been the victims of some serious brain damage. A lot of time and money would have been wasted.

There is no dark side of the moon, really. Matter of fact it's all dark.

Kudos to everyone who gets that.
