Okay, have any of you ever heard of this Christiaan video series?

My friend brought one to my house one day and said I just HAD to watch it. I was hesitant, but I watched it and cracked up. And know I have the full collection, and am eagerly waiting the realease of the next one this month.

I know most of you would dismiss it as "just a kids' show" (I would've if my friend hadn't insisted). But, even though a lot of parts are aimed for the younger audience, the creators have a way of adding little hilarious one-liners, TV show refernces, and ad-libbing that gets me rolling. Even kinda reminds me of Homestar and TBC humor a bit...

Please post...

So a friend of mine has the Sing-Along Songs Countdown, and she and a number of my other friends would watch it like twice a week and sing the songs constantly. (It's important to note that this was about a year ago, and I just graduated from college. College is a strange, strange time.) I resisted watching it for a long time, but eventually.. well, eventually I had four girls sitting on top of me and they made me watch it. Hilarious stuff. Great songs.

As I said, I was resistant to it at first. But really, I'm pleased that there's Christian media out there for children that isn't completely full of rhetoric. There's some veiled rhetoric in there, of course, but when I have kids, I hope that if they have Christian friends, they'll be watching Veggie Tales instead of, er, the 700 Club or summat.

My friend (the one who has the video) made me a poster for my wall that has that cucumber guy with long blonde hair painted on, to match mine. I'm not a blonde, but, y'know, it was cute.

Glad to know a few people know what VeggieTales and Homestar are! At least I'm not alone.

Dude, every seven-year old in the western hemisphere knows what VeggieTales are.

I helped out at a local jr high school by playing the piano for their choir. (Long story about the teacher being fired for ... err, you know... and the new teacher having trouble keeping the kids in line).

Anyway, the 7th grade boys (12-13 year olds) wouldn't sing anything except the pirates who don't do anything. I now love vegitales.

You speak of rhetoric as though it were a bad thing. The ghost of Cicero is going to get you if you don't cut that out. Seriously. Everyone uses rhetoric. Some better than others. You're using rhetoric right now (or at least you were when you posted).

I have to agree with that 700 Club thing. It's really more politics than religion, and I don't even agree with that much of that guy's politics or religion.

Yes, but does every seven-year-old in the western hemispher know about Homestar? I don't think Homestar is even appropriate for seven-year-olds...

The Josh concurs.

I have a hard time watching TBN for that matter, except when they show rock videos at like midnight saturday nights.

I think it's kinda hard to swallow that they're always asking for money, but they're in these HUGE places with chairs made out of gold.

Religion. Grr.

Maybe this should move to the religion thread?

Well, I think that originally this thread was about the funny talking vegetables and not Religion as such (and for once the transition wasn't my fault.. as such), so I'm gonna let it stay here and hope it gets back on track.

So, um.. how 'bout that Cebu?

Wikipedia says that there's a tomato named Bob. How confusing.

My favorite character is Jerry Gourd.

"I could eat a whole planet."

Been a watcher since "Are You my Neighbor" back in what, 1996? Introduced all my college buddies to it back in the day, and they liked it too. I can sing most of the early songs...

Quote:
We could give him jelly doughnuts then take them all away,
we could fill his ears with cheese balls and his nostrils with sorbet.
We could use him as a footstool or a table to play Scrabble on...
The tie him up and beat him up and throw him out of Babylon!

I, for one, never intended this to be a religious debate, but I guess a lotta people have to stretch things out of proportion until they have base for arguments... Not that I blame you, Jones...

The Cebu Song is my 4th favorite Silly Song... His Cheeseburger is third, BellyButton Song second (It's hilarious how close they got to real boyband music... I can picture NSYNC or Backstreet Boys singing that), and my top is the latest "Sport Utility Vehicle". Hilarious stuff.

The newest one coming out is Sumo of the Opera. It, of course, features a storyline called, what else, Sumo of the Opera... But I'm more excited about the other two things: A short parody-ing... pair-oh-die-ing... puh-ro-dee-ing... whatever... "The Three Stooges" and a puppet show put on by Khalil (go Khalil!)

And of course, a new Silly Song! Where will IT rank?????

What? Wait! I didn't do it! I steered the conversation away from religion! :eekdance:

All I have to say is.....I feel a song coming on!

"Barbara Manatee! (Manatee, Manatee)
You are the one for me, (one for me, one for me)
Sent from up above (up above, up above)
You are my perfect love!"

I love silly songs with Larry! I tried to find some to download....you know what? I'ma try again, right now!

I just recently got the Veggie Rocks! CD, and I'm actually listening to it as I'm on the Compy.

Best song so far: Relient K's "Pirates"!

Ah, VeggieTales. It's been years since I watched those, and I don't really remember anything about them except that the silly songs cracked me up.

You can't tell me that Josh and the Big Wall wasn't based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Sure, the enemy hurled Slushies, not farm animals at them, but you've got to admit that (french accent) "GO AWAY!" sounds awfully familiar.

And Stuff-Mart! I used to call Wal-Mart "Stuff-Mart" all the time!

I used to be way into it when I was younger. I guess from Madame Blueberry/King George and the Ducky/Esther on, I didn't really feel it was for me. Too kiddish. Some, like Dave and the Giant Pickle and Josh and the Big Wall had that two-way humor (In "Josh and the Big Wall", a veggie retelling of the story of Jericho, when the wall collapses, a huge pile of dust comes out as Jimmy Gourd cries, "Boy, did I pick a lousy day to wear my contacts!" Later on, after the "Promised Land" reprise, he asks, "Does anyone have any saline?" Totally over most kids' heads, and over mine at the time too. Now, I find it hilarious). That was a long parenthetical phrase. Dig it.

Yeah in the begginning it was seperated into two basic levels: Mature in-jokes and the kiddie stuff. But lately, they've kinda merged everything, so that the videos are more for the ages in between, like the 9-12 age group.

Both VeggieTales creators have admitted there love for the Monty Python shorts and movies, and they have made many references to them in the 10-12 years they've been doing the show. Another example would be that in the VeggieTales movie, the Ninivites were "fish-slappers"

Sounds awfully familiar, no? ;)
