Okay. So. I was at a minor league baseball game tonight, and after a long game the lights shut off and the fireworks began. Everyone was enjoying the grand finale when suddenly people a few sections down start screaming. Turns out a firework had to big of a fuse, went up, curved around, and landed right in the middle of the stands. I turn my head around to see what happened, when suddenly a loud bang sounds and huge bright lights appear in the stands a couple of sections down. Sparks fly everywhere with smoke surrounding. The fireworks stop. The stadium is completely quiet. There were minor injuries- cuts, wounds, and a couple of people got eardrum problems. Anyone else have something scary or sudden happen? Do tell. |

It's no particular moment in time, but when you are in a car, and you have to come to a screeching halt. That always scares me. |

I almost choked to death on a hot dog at my cousin's softball game when I was eight. I was fine, but they stopped the game and called an ambulance. I was embarrassed. I was mad, though, because while some lady was giving me the Heimlich Maneuver, I dropped what was left of the hot dog on the ground. I was gonna eat that... Does that count? |

Does that count? Whoa. That's pretty scary. But I would have been mad about the remainder of the hot dog too. |

Here's another one. About two years ago, I got a gash in my knee. I looked at it, and saw that it was about a quarter to half-inch deep gash. I walked on it (with severe pain) into the house and lay down on the couch. Obviously, I was feeling very lightheaded, and I didn't know why. I looked at my knee again, and the gash was overflowing with blood. It was scary to look at. *shiver* And cyco, your story freaks me out. I could never imagine biting through my tongue. |

One time two years ago, me and my younger siblings were out swimming in Lake Huron. It waspretty wavy that day. I went out about six feet, and a big wave came in, and the resulting pull sucked me and my siblings out to where we could no longer touch. I swam as hard as I could back to shore, and managed to push my siblings to safety before another wave came, sucking me out further. My knee bashed against a rock as I was being sucked out, right in the place where it's really sensitive, rendering my legs immobile, and thus I couldn't swim. Just as I was about to be gone, my fingers JUST grabbed ahold of the rock. I hung there until the waves subsided. That's my near-death experience story. |

I had three near-death/serious injury occurrences in the span of 24 hours. 3:30 PM I was driving home when suddenly I felt really sleepy. Only was 3 or 4 minutes from home, and I knew I could handle it due to a similar situation having happend before but being able to hold it up anyways. Stopped at a stoplight, and my eyes decided to take a quick rest. When I came to, however, I was 15 seconds' worth driving feet from the stoplight, not remembering a thing of the last 15 seconds, and veering into the left side of the road. Jerked back and broke out in a sweat....scared the living daylights out of me. 10:10 PM Driving home again when I heard a train and was approaching the tracks. The thought crossed my mind that a train may be beatable, especially this one which, looking left and right, wasn't within sight. But woods do partly obstruct the crossing. And the thought crossed my mind, "never race a train" no matter what. So I stopped, a little closer to the tracks than i would have liked (about 10 feet instead of 20-30). The train barreled by- one of those fast trains that travel like 50 miles per hour. Like watching a wall move inches from my eyes. The next day, 1:20 PM My car had been having battery problems- had to use the stupid indoor light that turns on when you open the door as little as possible and drive as long as possible. I'd just turn the key, rip it out, open the door, jump, lock, and slam the door within a fraction of a second. If I wasn't careful, the car would simply not stsart. It didn't start, so I set it to neutral and pushed it out in order to bring the other car out and jump it. Got a little cocky, pushed the car too hard. Then got to the other side to stop it, but I'd put more force than I'd thought, and my body slam was halted instantly, knocking me flat on the ground with a car bearing on me. Not the wimp type, I snapped up my legs and pushed on the back of the car until it stopped, and it plowed me a good 7 feet backwards into the grass. Eventually drove the other car out next to it and started it, then replaced the battery. Whew. Well homestarman17, this sounds somewhat familiar, but if the mods aren't shutting this thread down we might as well post in it. |

When I was about 9 I was out on my bike (in front of my house no less) and didn't hear the car behind me...it was about 10 feet away when my dad started screaming "LOOK OUT!" and i somehow swerved around it into the driveway. Pretty scary at the time. |

I haven't done this yet. but I will next year: There is this massive mountain in Idaho called Mount Bora. The peak is so small, it's about 5 by 5 feet. Well on the hike up there, there is this place called chicken-out ridge. There's about two feet wide of trail with a granite wall on one side, and a two-hundred foot cliff on the other. That's pretty scary. |

I have two actually: I was once in Montana, when my family had to drive up this tall mountain. When we were driving along, the road got more narrow and all there was to protect a car from falling off the edge was an old guard rail. Then, we had to stop for a second(I still don't know why), and that freaked me out because I thought our car was having problems. But, it wasn't, so I was happy. Yes, I'm afraid of heights. Another time was when I was down at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I didn't know how to swim at all so I was always careful in the water. But, one day my foot wouldn't move, like something was grabbing on it. I don't think it was a rip current because I wasn't being dragged at all. I couldn't pull my foot free and a giant wave was coming. I braced for impact and the wave hit me. Luckily, it washed me back out of the water. My aunt is like, "Are you okay, honey?" I cough out some water and I'm like, "Yeah, I'm fine.(a little sarcastic)" |

This was when I was somehow crazy about golf. My friend came over with his older brother. He wanted to play the Legend of Zelda, so I asked his older brother if he wanted to come outside and chip a few balls with me, and he said ok. So we went out and we chipped a few, until it was his turn. Now I was standing quite close to the club and he swung back. Where'd it hit? Smack bang in the left eye. I SCREAMED. There was blood, a black eye in the same eye and then stitches on my eyebrow had to be brought in at the local doctors. This was when I was in grade 2. I'm a little concerned that my friend was still sitting there when it happened. Kinda lazy,eh? |

I firework nearly hit me on the head once. Me and my family were out in the garden (note: this was before you needed a license to use fireworks) and my older brother lit a rocket. As the fuse was burning we noticed that the firework was starting to lean ot the side a little. As it was falling slowly we had two choices: 1. Run over to the firework, straiten it up and risk it exploding in our faces. 2. Leave it and risk it flying in to us. We chose option one. Luckily no-one was hurt. PHEW! |

I was in New York at Allegany State Park camping with my family. There were these huge rock formations and I wanted to climb on them. I got to the top of the tallest one and looked out over the edge. It must have been over 150 feet tall. There was a little over hang and I climbed out onto it, but then I slipped. I was dangling over 100 feet in the air with a lot of other rocks below me. A small crowed gathered around, ready to try to save me if I fell,(One lady took a picture) but I used all of my strength(wich wasn't that much two or three years ago) and got back up. Everyone cheered. The End. |

I was at a high school football game and all of a sudden the lights completely went off. And it was pitch black and freezing cold. Those lights take about a half hour to warm back up again. |

Here is a scary moment: getting busted by the cops. When I got busted for speeding, I was scared to death. I thought I was gonna end up in a holding cell with a man named Bubba who wants to dance with me. |

Back in early 2001, I was having trouble sleeping at night. One night, I was lying in my bed, looking around my room and stuff, you know, the stuff you usually do when you're trying to fall asleep... and I thought I started hearing these footsteps. Very soft footsteps on the carpet... so I kept listening for them. I figured maybe my mom was adjusting the thermostat or something. Anyway, I kept hearing them. They got softer and quieter as time went on until I could barely hear them. Suddenly, from the direction of my window, a shadow of a man (he was just a silhouette, no facial expressions that I could make out or anything) jumped on top of me, grabbed me, and started shaking me like crazy. I tried to scream, but for some reason my mouth was sealed. I was able to let out a faint "Mmm!!!" but it was so soft that I could barely hear it, let alone anyone else in my house. Within seconds, I awoke in my bed. I never recalled ever blacking out and falling asleep, but apparently I had dreamt that I was trying to fall asleep. (Kinda defeats the purpose of sleeping, doesn't it?) Well, at that point, I no longer wanted to fall back asleep. That was only the freakiest dream I've ever had. I've looked around the internet, but it doesn't seem that anybody else has ever had a dream like that. The dream seemed so real though; my room was exactly as it was before I fell asleep, and I still felt like I was looking around my room waiting to fall asleep. I wasn't sure what to think of the shadow guy--I figured he was a burglar, and I didn't think much about the fact that he was a silhouette at the time, as I was more concerned with getting him to stop strangling me. I've yet to have a dream anywhere near that freaky again, and I'd like to keep it that way. |

I was driving my 4Runner home from school. We were let out "early" because of the snow that was piling up outside. By "early" I mean way too late. The snow had gotten to dangerous levels in under four hours, and the school was slow in getting us home. Anyway, there are five ways back to my house: Rt. 282, which I usually take, Rock Raymond Road, Peck Road, 113, and Dowlin Forge Road. So I drove down 282, only to see it was blocked off by a huge car wreck. I turned around, went back through town, and onto Rock Raymond. A hugh tree had fallen in front of a car, causing it to smash into the tree. I tried Dowlin Forge, 113, all had accidents. So the last road was Peck. Peck had not been plowed or salted, and is often one of the last roads to be, so I took it slow (in addition to being wary of all those car wrecks). Downshifted, in a 4WD SUV, going 20 miles under the speed limit, I took a very slight right turn. I straigtened the wheel, but the car kept turning. Now I've driven on ice before, but this was the slickest road I have ever driven on. I couldn't steer no matter what. I tried to aim it towards an embankment, but it passed...right towards a telephone pole. I just basically saw it coming and thought, "Oh here we go..." SMACK. The SUV was totalled, and halfway in the lane, perpendicular to the road. Well, not soon after I got out to inspect it, a Jeep came down the same way, slowly, and started careening out of control. As it quickly rushed towards me, I jumped out of the way...but it had stopped like three feet before the place where I was standing. The driver got out and we talked about how bad it was, when a minivan came from the other direction. It too went all kinds of nasty, and slid sideways, past my car, and nearly into the Jeep. Maybe four other cars slid out of control untill enough snow had been pushed out of the way for cars to safely get by. After an hour standing, waving my arms to get people to slow down (traffic cop'd!) and waiting for the police in freezing weather, they finally came. The policeman's verdict: "You were driving too fast for the weather. You really should be more responsible, a kid your age. These people are going 20 mph, and they're just fine" I looked at the cars. They were going about 10 mph, to get around all the wreckage. Yes, going 20 mph downshifted in an SUV is real irresponsible, Officer Obie. Regardless, my insurance was cancelled, and I went through a very frightening and angering experience. |

That really sucks. Sure makes me appreciate living in the hot south, where we almost never have snow. I've heard bad things about driving in the snow. We have a lot of rain though, which makes driving hard enough. The heat has been unbearable lately too, but at least it doesn't affect my driving. |

You ain't KIDDIN!! Man, even with my air conditioner running full blast today, I could never get my apartment cool. Then, around 2, I went outside, and the heat was like a huge, giant blanket. If I wasn't on my way to the swimming pool at the time, I would have just went back inside and taken a bath with some ice cubes. |

One morning, when I was 9, I had left my shoes in my friend back yard. At the time, his 12 year-old german shepard was tied outside. I knew the dog very well. I sneaked into the yard, and picked up my shoes. As I was leaving, I felt a sharp pain, but it got worst! I screamed as I saw the dog bite into my right leg! I felt the gush of blood roll down my leg. The only thing I could do is run. It went deaper as I tried to run. A moment later, the dog let go. I ran home yelling "MOM! DAD! HELP!!!" My parents rushed outside, and saw my leg pouring with blood. They rushed me into the house, got me a wet cloth to stop the bleeding. My dad drove me to the hospital. As we entered, People where staring at my leg. We waited ten minutes before I was taken to a room. They gave me pain killer INSIDE the cut! It was the worst pain I ever felt. Then They stitched it up, And gave me a cast. I had returned to school three days later. |

Well what happened to the dog afterwards? I say the scariest one so far is prob homestarman17 hanging off a cliff. The freaky dream......heck with that, I've had worse. Hey Didymus, recently at Meijer they started selling dry ice!! I tink it comes in little insulated boxes..? Didn't look inside the big ol freezer. That golf club reminds me.....I almost killed someone with a golf ball. See, I can swing notioriously hard but very inaccurate- some days I just.....have it and other days not. So I was slugging balls at the driving range when one of my swings sort of went under the ball. It shot straight up at 90 mph. Now at the driving range there's a concrete ceiling, and at the overhang it's slanted. The ball bounced off the overhang and landed on the mat of the guy in front of me, missing by 3 feet...!! I'm glad he was gracious about it. |

Aww, poor dog. That's what happens when dogs bite people though, sadly. Or was the dog put down due to old age or another reason? That sucks about your leg though. |
