If any computer geniuses could figure out a way to make it integrate with my Trillian, I'd use it.

The only question I have is what took them so long!

This rumor has yet to be confirmed by anyone within Google, but for a year or so it's been pretty much accepted knowledge that it's inevitable.

With Gaim, Trillian*, and Adium X out there, I honestly don't know why anybody would "switch." Supposedly Google's new service will be based on Jabber, which is supported by all of the above (*only with Trillian Pro, unfortunately), and since I already use Gaim there won't be any "switching" necessary.

But will I be getting an account? Hecks yes!

Is there going to be anything different about Google IM? Like, new features? If not, I guess it's just one more step to taking over the Internet. I'm going to get an account as soon as I can.

Yeah, um, thanks for giving us really, really old news. Google bought Picasa (thus acquiring Hello) in July. Of last year. I've got it too. Hello is not the product Google is supposedly announcing tomorrow.

Have cerulean studios specifically said that they won't add support for this in basic or are you just assuming they won't put it on basic, and you'll be left to download a plug-in for it. I don't know anybody who'd use it though, and I don't think it has any new features. I MIGHT get it, and while I'm at it, set up accounts for all the other instant messenging networks.

Er. I'm not speculating at all about what Cerulean will be doing; I was merely commenting on the current state of affairs, i.e. Jabber is currently only supported in Trillian Pro. If Google announces a Jabber-based service, it could prompt Cerulean to put Jabber support in Trillian Basic (it makes sense, since their only real competitor, Gaim, throws it in for free), but I really haven't a clue.

Concerning features, I'm willing to bed that Google has a few things up its sleeve. They're smart enough to know that though many, many people will sign up just because it's a Google product, many more will if they can see some clear, demonstrable difference between the Old Guard and their New Hotness.

I've been waiting for this to happen for a while now.
But, now that I know it's coming, I'm definitely going to sign myself up.

Definitely. For one thing, Google's usually got excellent-quality services, and for another, hopefully it will add another use to my Gmail account.

Google has a knack for being, well, functional.

I haven't really used my gmail account too much, but that google toolbar comes in handy when looking up words in a biiiiiiiig page, filling in stuff, and attempting to translate a page. Oh, and for doing internet research n_n

I'm not going to abandon AIM, seeing as not EVERYBODY with get a Google Talk account, but it really seems promising.

I'll at least download it, but I just doubt that it'll take over AIM. If it does, well I'll eat my hat! </deception point> I don't have a GMail account. I just refuse to. I'm a bit of the google-watch.org fanatic, but if Google Messenger becomes the standard I'll stick with it.

It's pretty cool to see that Google is following in Yahoo's footprints by creating their on IM service, but I have enough IM's.

You guys are gonna kill me, but..

I'm one of the only people in the world that has downloaded and installed Google Talk. Yes, the real thing. No, I can't give you the download link. I'd really like to, but if I did Google would have my family killed, and AgentSeethroo, too.

But, you can read my review and see all the screenshots here:

:eekdance:

P.S. It's got almost 400 diggs in under an hour and a half. I feel like Elvis.

I've been testing it in Gaim (along with the rest of Slashdot) and I must say it's pretty good. icefragment@gmail.com if anyone feels like adding me.

Alright, I just downloaded it.

It's cool how it shows you your latest emails and everything...

My name is just "edsmilde". I couldn't think of a name back when I first signed up at GMail.

Yup, it's now available for public consumption.

So I got to feel special for a few minutes, at least.

My username is porplemontage. It works well, too. It's not very featureful yet, but I like the simplicity of it.

It does have a feature or two so far. If you minimize the window, everyone's messages will pop up in the lower right corner, which I like, anyway.

BTW, InterrupterJones, did something get messed up with your link? Google talk is currently at http://talk.google.com.

I hope they'll start adding more features soon, such as profile pics, file transfers, maybe chatrooms etc.
