My friend Ryo, who I go to for all my Halo needs, says there is
no way to start without weapons. He told me there is a glitch one can use to have Master Chief drop his weapons; he also says MC picks up any weapon he touches afterward, and there's no way to make a gametype for it, so he says it's not even worth it.
Here is the glitch, as copied from
this page. Note that the page contains some offensive material and strong language (because fanboys feel important when they cuss people out).

Go to the headlong multiplayer level. Be sure that the settings are the same as the following:
Gametype: Oddball
Starting Primary weapon: Plasma Pistol
Staring secondary weapon: NONE
Weapons on map: Who cares? Ya wont be usin' em!
Run at the oddball with your plasma pistol and get the ball, but after that IMMIDIATLLY press R to throw the ball away. You should have no weapons.
Note 1: Getting in a vehicle and driving around and firing wont stop the glitch.
Note 2: It may take a few tries.
