Well, for new characters in SSBR, here is a list from the IGN Boards made by one of the smartest people on that forum.

Pit - An old favorite, the Kid Icarus was one of Nintendo's earliest popular game. He's the only guy everyone can agree on, and Miyamoto has hinted on plans to a sequel.
Captain Olimar - Reletively new character, but popular and would make for a very unique style of gameplay that focuses on summoning Pikmin. And size doesn't matter, all the characters in SSB are simply dolls/trophies brought to life. He'd be the same size as the others.
Isaac - Yes, Golden Sun is property of Nintendo, and Golden Sun has recieved much popularity from it's two games on the GBA, and a rumored third installment for Revolution. Isaac is the main character of the first game, and his moves would involve both sword play and psynergy.
Wario - The only Mario character I think should absolutly be added, for obvious reasons(two of his own mini-series).
Diddy Kong/Dixie Kong team - The Donkey Kong Country games need SOME acknowledgement for their gastronomical sales in the 90's. Diddy and Dixie as a team adds two characters for the price of one, and acknowledges the team-based styles of gameplay the DKC games had.
Skull Kid/Majora's Mask - Being more popular than Vaati, Skull Kid would make a great choice to round out the charcter list. Even though he's only appeared in one game, it was a popular one and he holds many complex traits that make him a worthwile choice for Zelda fans.
Ridley - The Metroid series is grossly under-represented, though probably due to the lack of possible characters. Ridley however is a good choice, the only reoccuring single character throughout the series to appear in a majority of the games. As long as he is smaller and his flight is limitted, he's be a kickbutt speed/power character.
King Dedede - The semi-villian from Kirby, an under-represented franchise thats made by the same company that makes SSB in the first place. Kirby needs more recognition, King Dedede would make a good heavyweight.
Meta Knight - Kirby's rival and re-occurring villian of mystery throughout the series, and easily the coolest and most popular Kirby character aside from Kirby himself. Also created by Hal, he deserves to be there.
Deoxys - When choosing a Pokemon character there are many things to consider:Their popularity, which Gen their from, their media exploits, their compatibility with the gameplay, and how much they will apeal to the non-Pokemon fans. Deoxys is one of few Pokemon that has positive traits in all thes categories, being popular, represent the 3rd(and unrepresented) generation, being exploited in the media and getting his own Pokemon movie, possessing more than enough unique combat styles, and being totally bad(as opposed to "teh kiddie"). He is all-around a good choice, and would be able to switch between his 3 forms and alter his moveset.
Krystal - Out of the remaining Star Fox characters, Krystal has the most to offer, being most popular among the Star Fox fans(behind Fox & Falco of course) and her staff providing a fighting style different from the rest of the Star Fox characters. A more contributing character than, say, Wolf, who is just Fox on steroids.
Samurai Goroh - The arch rival of Captain Falcon, and one of the 4 original F-Zero racers. Fills out the F-Zero reps, and could also be used to take Ganondorf's current moveset so he can have his own moves, blah blah blah, you know the deal.
Ayra - A female sword fighter from Fire Emblem 4, and argueably the best/most popular FE character ever. She would add to the otherwise slim female line-up of characters, and work like a cross between Shiek and Marth.
Poo - Another rep from the Earthbound series, he would fight similiar to Ness, but with more focus and advancement on physical kung fu attacks than psychic. Ness is deserving of a variation, and I believe Poo has more potential to offer than Paula or Jeff, and is a fan favorite.
Captain N - The "totally unexpected who the heck is that character that you unlock last" character. There are probably other choices, but this is my personal preference, and I won't be surprised if he's not in the game. From the classic 80's Nintendo-promoting cartoon and comic series, he was never actually in a Nintendo video game before, but still makes the representation of the hardcore Nintendo fan. His redesign could accentuate to a greater extent if made into a character.
Yeah, there should only be 15 new characters in Super Smash Bros Revolution so Nintendo doesn't flood the sequel with 50 bazillion characters. I agree with his list 100% as well(even though I haven't played Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, or Kid Icarus). Oh yeah, and for the people who say Sonic and Viewtiful Joe should be in it, it is a game for Nintendo All-Stars(as shown in the opening of Melee). Please no Sonic in a Nintendo-only game, Nintendo.
Note: I had to edit the quote a little. If there is still any profanity in it, please PM me so I can edit it.
EDIT- Oh, and can someone tell me how to "Lag Cancel" and "Wavedash", please?
