I know a lot of you use Firefox as your browser. Mozilla released Firefox 1.5 beta today. It has some updated features, although none particuarly sweeping. Examples are the "Report a Broken Website" button, which increases Firefox compatitbility, and the ability to drag and move tabs. Anyone download it yet? I have.

Final Result = I miss my extensions and usual theme. I'm sure those will catch up soon though.

I do think the way it checks for extension/theme updates is far superior to before.

Ah, very nice, moving tabs is one of the features I had noticed was missing. I'll wait until the relase to get it, for now, but thanks, Jesty.

Alright, alright, I'll download it! I hope it's way better than IE.

(I might not download it. Depends on how I feel.)

Yep, I downloaded it yesterday right after Joey told me it came out. It looks great. I think they finally fixed my least favorite glitch (kind of hard to explain).

A new Firefox? Sign me up, baby.

Although you can bet I'll get it in two months when everything is set in concrete and three other versions have come out. I'm just that lazy. ;)

I like how you can drag and drop to rearrange tabs.

You could already do that with the miniT extension, but it's good that they've integrated it into the browser.

I used Deerpark (the alpha of this) right untill it decided to ruin my extensions. (They did work. See below). It was amazing. So I hope. This is so MINE.

I also liked how updating didn't mean removing and reimporting my profile every time.

Extensions in Deerpark/Firefox:

As I have only tested this with Deerpark Alpha 2, I dunno if this still works. But here goes. Get the extension of your choice. Instead of installing (which would mean leftclicking) rightclick and save the xpi file. Rename the file to a zip. Extract it, and then open install.rdf with notepad. Here, change the value for MaxVersion to 1.5 (in Deerpark Alpha this would've been 1.0+). If there is more then one entry for MaxVersion, change both of them. Save. Repack everything into a zip file. (in Windows Explorer) go to Tools.. and then that option at the very bottom (having a Dutch version of Windows sucks when you're giving a tutorial on the Internets. Hmm. .wait.. Thilo Savage says it's called 'Windows Folder Options'). Select the second tab (...did I mention I HATE this?) and uncheck Hide Known File Extensions. This way, you can rename the new zip file back to an xpi. (you can now re-enable the option if you please). In Firefox, open the Extension Manager, and then drag the xpi file into the Manager. Install it. Close and reopen Firefox.

This worked for me with several extensions that were for some reason 'not compatible'.

Yeah, I thought about doing that, too, but I was afraid to. Now that you said it works, I might try it. :bubs:

I just got it, and I really like it. A lot.

I can now confirm that this trick works in the beta.

Notice: actually the beta's internal name is 1.4, but set maxversion to 1.5 to make it compatible with the end version.

I don't know how themes work, but I bet unzipping the jar file will yield something.
