everyone, even though many of us here are canadian, and other people from many other countries, i would like to ask everyone here to take the time to mourn all of the deaths of September 11th, 2001. i did not loose anyone on this day, but many of my friends lost their cousins, grandparents, aunts uncles, and so fourth. i was deeply effected on this day because a terrorist group took initiative and destroyed 3 beautiful towers, the pentagon, and took so many American Civilian Lives. what are you gdoing to remember this day?

I put a pic of the 9-11 Cross on the cover of the church bulletins. I'm not really planning on focusing attention on 9-11 in the services (especially since we have Katrina to be concerned about right now), but I thought the 9-11 Cross might offer some encouragement for this current tragedy.

I just visited Ground Zero earlier this year. The attitude was very respectful, and the air had a bit of a solemn feal to it. It's a cool place, and a place I'd like to visit again.
No, I don't think the incedent was cool.
I think America reacted quite well to what happened and we should be proud of ourselves.

I got a better question. Where were you when you heard the news about the WTC and Pentagon being hit?

I speak for ramrod and myself on this one. We were in mass at our school, we went to a Catholic School. During the petitions, I heard the line "For all those in the World Trade Center, we pray...." That line caught me off guard because why would the Catholic Church pray for Capitalism. Then after mass our principal informed us that the WTC and Pentagon had been attacked.

My mom was on an airplane flight to Te-has while it happened so I was afraid she would get stuck in Texas with no way to get back.

Also, being the innocent little 9 year old that I was. I thought it was just one huge freak accident untill later.

To answer Choc, yes, I always remeber September 11. I always feel a little more dreary on 9/11s.
To answer BTG, I was in Nova Scotia when it happened. I was on a cruise with my grandmother that left New York harbor on the seventh. And I got pictures of the towers.

me, i was in the 5th grade, i remember it like it was yesterday.........

Teacher: quick, turn on the tv,
teacher 2: why?
teacher: a plane hit a building!
teacher 2: what, here in town?
teacher: no, in new york.
(teacher moves and turns on the TV to Fox News Network)

we had been disscussing the commanche indians a few days before, and how blood thirsty they were, even though they werent)

fast worward to a few minutes later, i turned to look at someone, whne i turned back to the TV i saw the second plane hit into the second tower.
i looked in amazement and horor, a second plane hit the other tower. fast forward a few minutes later, the pentagon was on with the big hole in it, i though" not there, not again", fast forward, few minutes later, they said another plane is heading for washington, its been hijacked. my teachers turned and said" there gonna have to shoot it down", few minutes later, the first tower collapsed, right there on tv. i opend my mouth and looked in horor, the tower collapsed! fast forward, the pentagon collapsed, fast forward, the second tower collapsed, i looked in as the same face all the way through, then finally they showed the other plane crashed on the ground. end.

from that day i thought that the other plane was shot down and still belive it today. but that day lives in infamy with me.

I was walking past my gym teacher's office in 7th grade when he heard something on the radio that the Twin Towers had been blown up. As the events unfolded throughout the day, my brother & I just watched TV in horror.

I didn't actually find out until I returned home for lunch, two and a half hours after the first fact. At said point, my mother brought me into the kitchen, sat me down and turned on the news.

Yeah, it still bugs me how the teachers either didn't find out or didn't bother to tell us until the afternoon... not sure what the case was, but either way, just something that nags at the edge of my consciousness during my recollections of said day... most odd.

I was in 6th grade, we were sitting in lunch when the principal came on the loudspeaker and announced what had happened (in terms suitable for 6th-8th graders). Come to think of it, the teachers had been acting a bit more hectic that morning, but nobody thought anything out of the ordinary...anyways, after he stopped speaking, the cafeteria just kinda got quiet for the next 10 seconds or so then suddenly everybody started chatting away about it. One of my friends turned to me and suggested "CURSE YOU, SADDAM!" (i won't get into saddam<->osama connections here), and later that day, when that same friend got off the bus to be picked up by his mother, he asked her "Hey Mom, you hear about that plane thing?" I always remember that as an example of stupidity. Seriously, it's the worst national tragedy ever, you'd think everyone would have heard about it...

Yes, I feel a little more depressed on 9/11. In fact, it's the 11th now from where I'm posting.

Anyway, I was in 3rd grade when it happened. We were in Social Studies(or History) when we heard this on the PA:

"Attention, we are in a State of Emergency right at this moment. We might have a fire drill soon."

"What's going to happen?" some kid asked me.

"Ah, there's only going to be a fire drill later," I replied. Yep, good ol' retarded days.

Then, when we got back to homeroom my mom picked me up and told me what happened. We went to my grandma's house and I felt so sick watching innocent people being picked off like flies from planes.

Then, when I got home, I felt like I was going to throw up. I was so sick that I watched Nick Jr. to calm me down.

What's weird was that PBS didn't have the emergency alert system going at all on their station when they played almost all the other times(I'm not implying that I watch PBS anymore). Strange...

I was still in college, and I had gone down to breakfast. The first thing I noticed was that talk radio was playing over the cafeteria speakers instead of the usual music stations, but I didn't think much of it.

Then I heard something about planes hitting the World Trade Centers, and I thought, "It's a joke, like when that one guy did "War of the Worlds" over the radio and everyone thought it was real." But it wasn't Halloween or April Fools Day, I thought, "Oh God! Maybe it was an accident!"

Then, when I went back to my dorm room, I learned that not only was the crash deliberate, but that there had been three more, including into the Pentagon. By that time, I was convinced that we were going into World War III.

I had a plane trip planned for a few weeks later, and I had every intention of going through with it just to defy the terrorists and show that *they* couldn't control my life, but it was canceled anyway.

I think I'll celebrate this year by burning an effigy of bin Ladin.

My alarm clock went off, and I heard them talking about a plane crash or something on John Boy and Billy. Like I always did, I hit the snooze.. When it went off the next time, they were still talking about it, so I was like, WTF?
I turned on CNN, right as the plane hit the pentagon.
I remember sitting at the bus stop, talking to people about it, and we were still tryin to figure out what's going on.

After my calc 2 class, I went to my prof's office to talk about a test with her. She turned on her radio and found out both of the towers had collapsed, and we were both like, WHOA... Then, it hit me..

I really didn't have any true emotion until I talked to my dad. It was the 2nd time I had ever heard him cry.. It really hit me. He said something about how it was like a movie to him "I just kept wanting Bruce Willis or Steven Segal or Rambo to run in and save the day." Unfortunately, it didn't happen.

Interesting thing... I was sitting at the bus stop, looking at the construction site where Mass Media and Technology Hall is now sitting on the campus of Western KY University. The first pieces of steel were placed and connected to each other on 11 September 2001... That was just strange, watching people build a building, knowing that people were trying to tear some down..

Fourth grade, third day of school. If you didn't already know, I live in NYC


I remember all of us looking at the window, down at all the traffic. We asked our teacher what was happening, and she said it was just traffic. I think I remember seeing her get a phone call, but still said it was just traffic. The other fourth grade teachers told their kids, but it took the (new) principal for us to know what happened. My friend Leda and I were the only ones that gasped.


Ho-hum. It was depressing indeed. *sigh*


One time when I was passing by Ground Zero....I asked my dad if it had become more of an attraction after 9/11. He said yes.

Then I said something I kind of regret saying, and really regret hearing my dad laugh at: "If you want to make a monument even more of a tourist spot, just knock it down!"

I was homeschooling when it happened.

We took the whole day off.

I remember I had the radio on while I was brushing my teeth, and they were like, "omg one tower just fell down!" and so I dropped my toothbrush and darted down the steps, hitting my knee against the stairpost. It hurt.

I was in 3rd grade at the time, so I didn't understand a lot of it, though I understood it mroe than the other kdis my class did.

9/11 was a sad day, and I don't remember it for the deaths, as thats just waht the terrorists want us to. I remember it for the heroic efforts of the people on the last plane, and for the terrorists, and how much I hate them.

I was in fifth grade at the time. It was in class, and our principal came in and said something to our teacher. When he left, the teacher had said "The twin towers have just been hit". I couldn't believe it.

I know what you mean by your regret at the statement, but I, personally, don't see it as an insult to the memory of the victims and the towers... It occurs more to me as a testament to how the human mind is enamoured by tragedy. Not commenting on feeling bad for a tragedy, but on our morbid curiosity.

How to put it... Well, I'll use how Ellen DeGeneres' character put it in EdTV, something to the effect of "You're driving along the highway and you see an accident and you turn your head away, but you really want to look, to see if there are any rolling heads."

You probably won't believe it, and you might be offended, but I was sick and playing GTA2 right when it happened.

It still feels a bit unreal. There are so many shows/movies/photographs that depict the WTC it's really hard to imagine them being gone.

Even after hearing of it, I got ready and went to the bus stop, caught the bus up the hill, and went to class.

I was between classes at Seminary. I was walking through the TV room, when I noticed they had the first building on fire. Right then, the second plane hit the second tower. I was in total shock.

I was at home when I found out about the WTC. I had to work at 11am that day, and I woke up at 9 and turned on the TV a few minutes later, only to be bombarded with footage from NYC. To tell the truth, I was prooty confused, and I actually thought it was all a joke. I didn't believe it. So I went to work, and everyone there was gathered around the radio listening to coverage on CBC, and that's when I realized that it was for real. I spent the rest of the day just being scared, because (and I'm sorry if this sounds selfish) if the attacks had had a destroy-the-economy motive, Sudbury would probably have been relatively high on the Canadian list, due to our huge nickel mining industry. Anyhow, I pretty much kept glued to CNN for the next week, getting angrier and angrier with our buddy Dubya.

Why?
I ask because our troubles with Osama and the rest of the people involved began a long time ago.. Blame the late 70's/early 80's CIA for trying to get even with the Soviets for VietNam..
It was THEM, after all that hooked up the "freedom fighters" with weapons, money, and intel..
But that's a different story.

I was in 3rd grade at the time. I had seen my parents and the exchange student we had with us at the time watching the news. It was pretty shocking.

When I got to school, Mr. Spero, my 3rd grade teacher (and the best teacher I've ever had), told us all about what happened--he said that he had been having a good morning, but he turned on the radio and heard about the attacks. My friends and I spent a lot of time that day talking about what would happen if a war were to start.

what about the after effects about this when we found out it was osama bin laden?
at my school, we had some people from iran, iraq, india, all the like, and alot of my friends who were mainly white started beating them up and blaming them for it. so bassically for one day we all came together and then the next day we beat the bloody Heck out of our classmates.

We never had that happen at my old school--to be honest, about 98% of our school was white (there are about 100 kids there, and there were two girls that I think were of Indian descent). Also, we tended to be pretty racially tolerant. Of course, we all despised Osama. One of the kids dedicated Plankton's version of the Fun Song from Spongebob (F is for fire, burning up the whole town, U is for uranium...bombs, N is for no survivors...) to Osama bin Laden, actually, which was kinda funny.
