Technically, B and C. The shareware version was originally dsitributed via BBSes and such, which no doubt inspired a large amount of people to buy the game, but it was shipped on floppy disks. Not until about 1995 did CD versions appear.

I'm not certain exactly when. In spring of 1990, Carmack, Romero, Wilbur, and Carmack left Softdisk, and shortly thereafter id was born. If you read "Masters of Doom" you'd know that during that time the guys actually rented a house in Lousiana where they worked on some very early stuff.

http://5years.doomworld.com/doombible should answer all of those questions.

As for who I said left Softdisk....I meant to add Tom Hall in there...

sorry, but i was looking answers coming from you directly. so that ones counted as wrong, answer this question:
In a Certain Level on Doom2: Hell On Earth, John Romero's head was placed into the game, only using a certain cheat code can be used to find it.
Name the level, The Cheat Code, and who John Romero is/was and what significance he had to this game.

Wow. The easiest one yet. It was in MAP30, Icon of Sin, behind the lava in the goat's head. Use idclip (or use the console and noclip in modern engines) and run back there to see it. Romero was the lead designer of Doom, all of Episode 1, and portions of a lot of the rest of the game. He also did a few levels for Doom 2.

Bonus points: It came about when he was playing that level one night on noclip mode and he accidentally ran back there and found that the graphic used on the target where one's rockets hit to kill the demon had been replaced with his head. The sound designer Bobby Prince was there that night, so they recorded "To win the game, you must kill me, John Romero" and then played with and reversed it to make the demon wakeup sound.

It was an April Fool's joke. IIRC someone else started a port for real but it never got off the ground. Besides, if the SNES could barely handle Doom, who thinks the 2600 could?

correct, but then again, incorrect. Doom 2600 was a project for a 2d computer image class by James Catalano, which he got an A for. There was never a real game. Catalano then advertised it on the internet and in EGM magazine for a hoax. Alot of people beleved Catalano and one person offered him $150 for the game.

who wrote the music to doom?

Bobby Prince. I ought to get around to putting some of that on my iPod, MAP07/18/29 was really good, for example.

I assume you're referring to Dec. 10, 1993. Several things:

1) id released the original 0.99 shareware Doom to the Internet.
2) Everyone assumed that they meant 12:01 AM, which was technically on their set release date.
3) The FTP (University of Wisconsin IIRC) Jay was going to upload to was full, when he called up the tech there to add another slot so he could get the second part of Doom uploaded. Slots were added and were filled before Jay got a chance. He finally went into their chat room and told them to get off or no Doom. Everyone got off.
4) When he finished uploading, the server crashed under the load of all the simultaneous download attempts as the tech watched in horror.

It seems like a good idea, the only thing bad is that it'd probably have aoaii. (don't ask me what that means)

I actually just saw a commercial on the telly about it, and it doesn't look too bad. I mean, for a movie based on a game, it could be a lot worse, like the second Laura Croft.

okay, this has to do with the game. tangy just reversed the Demonic words said by The icon of Sin in the last level of Doom 2. here is a link to the sound wave. http://niteice.hopto.org/dsbossit_rev2.wav

he is saying "to win the game you must defeat me, John Romero"

With all this talk of crappy movies based on video games I'm suprised no one has brought up Tron.

Tron was all sorts of different kinds of cool that was rolled together Katamari style.

hmm. I'd watch a Katamari movie now that I think of it.
