I just found out about this cool 3D virtual globe by google at
earth.google.com

It's really cool. It shows mountains and building and sattelite images of at least 15 meters per pixel. You need to download it thouh and you need a lot of patience if using dialup.

I can't look at it, because of what happened last time I downloaded something ( virus, virus, virus, virus, virus, virus, virus.... ).

Google never stops amazing people. Not until it takes control of Holland, and parts of Canada. Until then, they just keep making really cool stuff.

It's cool indeed.
There are some parts of Holland that you can see well. Try Rotterdam, Scheveningen and Den Haag.

I downloaded it a while ago. Quite a remarkable program. They don't seem to care much about Miamisburg, Ohio though. WE DO HAVE THE SECOND BIGGEST NATIVE AMERICAN BURIAL MOUND IN AMERICA!
*breathes heavily*
The 3-D buildings and terrain are simply dazzling. I just wish the pics were updated.

As the forum's resident Google fanboy, I got ahold of this the second it was released. I absolutley love it.

I love going into mountainous terrain and just flying through it.
Awexome.

I haven't downloaded it yet, but my technology teacher at school was messing with it at the beginning of class once. I overheard one of the other teachers say that there's downloadable layers for updates on the map(like before Katrina, after Katrina). Also, he showed us the school on it, it hasn't been updated for a long time because construction hadn't begun on the school, yet.

I downloaded it, but it doesn't seem to work properly on my lappy.

I think the resolution is too small. Plus, I'm using a LOT of memory for mp3's.

But it's still pretty cool. They don't have my house, though.

Google Earth is awesome, but I'd wish Google stopped pretending the world consists of the US and a few tiny spots of the rest of the world (the image within the Netherlands is Amsterdam, and it's not as detailed as that of, say, New York).

But very awesome.

While I can't be certain, my guess is that Google doesn't own the satellites used to take the pictures. And if there aren't sufficient photos available, then of course the maps aren't going to be detailed enough.

Digital Globe provides most of the pictures that are used in Google Earth (at least, the high res images). I'm not sure if you've gone pricing satellite imagery (kinda difficult, did it once last year) but 60cm imagery is 700-800 dollars per square kilometer. So they are only picking places where they think they will get the most bang for their buck.

On their bbs they have news that shows what areas they have high res imagery for, as well as how hi-res that imagery is. For example, Google's Mountain View campus is 1 in./ pixel.

I've had this for about a month. It's pretty cool. My dad (who never goes on the computer) can look at it for hours at a time.

Weird! My dad showed it to me a couple of months or so ago and he does the same thing!

I was gonna make a topic about this! Well, ABP, so I can't. Well, anyway, I have google earth. But google earth also means you can never give your IP adress. And it's not as much virtual as live.

Is that free now? Cause I downloaded Keyhole that one time and it was shareware. I like all the 3D-ness of it all.

Someone on another forum just pointed out something very odd over Florida.

Go to coordinates:
26 44 56.04 N 80 04 28.35 W

 Anyone know what it might be?

That's really weird. I'm trying to think of all the possible things it could be.
A cloud. ;)

It almost looks like that Golf Ball thing at Disney Land.
