Yeah, you heard it here first. I Professor Tor A. Coolguy am a LARP nerd and this is my drug of choice.

Is anyone else interested in LARPing/ SCA events?

Edit: For all those who don't know, LARP is an acronym for Live Action Role Playing game.

I play them, but I'm no nerd. Really a geek, cuz the difference is: Nerds don't have a life, but geeks do.

That is so untrue. In the immortal words of the MC Bat Commander of The Aquabats,
MCBC wrote:
“There's a difference between nerds and losers,” says MC Bat Commander, "all these people whining about how they are losers and nobodies, 'cuz they feel sorry for themselves or something. It's such a cop-out. Nerds are different, they believe in something. They believe in themselves, regardless of what they've accomplished yet. So, if that makes me a 'nerd,’ sign me up."

Yeah, I guess LARPing's okay. Kindo' weird, but funny.

I have to admit, I think LARP is a bit odd, funny, even. Still, if you enjoy it, there's nothing wrong with it, so long as you are conscious that you are PLAYING A GAME... Some people let it take over their lives. Like any activity, too much can be bad for you.
The same thing can be said for my hobbies, I suppose. I shoot someone with a gelatin sphere filled with dyed vegetable oil. That doesn't make me a soldier..

I really wanted to get in on the LARPing scene at Otakon. Coulda totally been Gohan! u_u!!

But yeah, it's funny to watch the LARP obsessors who've obviously got way too much spare time. I've really always wanted to trying the live-action stuff out....

How do you decide if someone got hit, how much damage, etc? I just see it being like when we used to play cops and robbers or some other thing as a kid. "I got you! No you didn't! I have a force field that deflects your attacks!"

It's all in the rules man.

Works for me, the only problems I see are "was that a hand/arm hit?" "was that a foot/leg hit?".. and the insuing arguments. I guess that it'd refereed closely.

There is a dumb rule there that I would have to change..
6.5. If the target is lunging/rolling around and has a wounded leg (hacking or smashing) and is hit in either leg (even the one already hit) it is considered a hit on the good leg.

A hit in the wounded leg is a hit in the wounded leg! If I shoot you twice in your left leg, you don't wind up with a wound in both legs.

I saw one of these things on TV. I hate to make fun of people who are having fun/enjoy themselves, but it was seriously hillarious.

Yes, that's true for real combat but the rules have to be fair. I think people were blocking with their injured limbs and making things unfair for the normally good swordsmen so that rule had to be concieved.

Makes sense. You can't block with something that isn't actually there.

Oh believe me, you feel when you're hit. And anyone that wants to go out there an have a good time is probably going to be a good sport about taking the hit and being killed.
