Well, I really wanna go to the Green Day concert on the eighth in Carson.

My friend went to the one in San Diego a couple of nights ago, and she got backstage passes, met the band, and had the chance to go out to dinner with them, but she denied, as she was full.

Full. Psssh. Whatever.

As I mentioned in the "What are you listening to now?" thread, I'm going to see The Decemberists in one week. :)

The last concert I went to was a KoRn concert in Albany, NY. That was about 3 1/2 years ago. It was for the Untouchables Tour.

There is one concert I missed that I will forever be kicking myself over was the Pink Floyd reunion at Live 8. I so wanted to go to it.

Tragically, I haven't been to a concert since last summer, when I saw They Might Be Giants at the Barrymore Theatre in Madison, WI. Fantastic show, though; we right up in front the whole time, like two feet from Flansy's feet, and after the show I yoinked a setlist and got it signed by Linnell, Marty, and Dan Miller.

A couple months before that I went to see the Suicide Girls Burlesque Tour, but had to leave during the third opening band 'cause my then-girlfriend had to work. Anyway, I have a number of bad memories associated with that evening, none of which, quite sadly, include hot burlesque Suicide Girls. The opening bands were decent, though.

On November 10 I'm going to see Bright Eyes at the University of Iowa (if any lurkers are in the area drop me a line and we'll meet up). I'm so totally pumped. Bright Eyes certainly isn't for everyone, but it's sure for me. Emooooooooooo! The University Ballroom is kind of a weird venue, though. It's just a big carpeted room, like those hotel convention areas where they have self-help seminars and stuff. They set up a stage at one end. It's always general admission (i.e. no seats), but that suits me. Anyway, previously I've seen The Starting Line (and a bunch of great openers) there, and I saw my first They Might Be Giants show there. Despite the weird venue, great shows.

I saw Blessid Union of Souls at Western Kentucky University's Ballroom once. The stage was meant for a keynote speaker at a dinner or something, but not for a band. I felt sorry for them. The stage was so small that Jeff Pence kept stepping on this campus cop's shoulder to keep from falling off the stage. If that stage was 10 feet from the lip to the wall, I would be suprised. Still, they overcame, and the show rocked.

Too bad they couldn't get the stage surface that they use whenever they have shows or winter commencement at Diddle Arena. Then, they wouldn't have had to put some of their equipment in the floor.

Man, I wish MY girlfriend would go to a burlesque show.. I wish she would let ME go to one. LOL

The next big concert on my list is Bonaroo. That's not til the spring. Anyone want to meet up and go? We should start planning.. Wikiroo! We'll crash at Firebird's house, and raid his fridge!

So... I went to a NIN concert last night. All I can say is "WOW". Trent Reznor is amazing.

Edit: So somehow I completely missed the topic made yesterday. Good heavens.

:D

The last three shows I went to this year:

Porcupine Tree - IMO they're one of the best examples of what modern rock should sound like, and everything comes through on stage perfectly.
Sigur Ros - It kinda sucks that we were too far back at this show and as such the sound didn't come out overly well, but other than that, it was absolutely gorgeous and hypnotic. The last song on the parentheses album live =
The Musical Box - I've seen them twice now, and it seriously feels like going to see Genesis in their 72-75 prime. Scarily accurate and amazing.

Upcoming concerts: The Decemberists and Ben Folds, as far as I know. I would have been going to see Jethro Tull this coming Monday or Tuesday, but both shows were sold out. :(

Last Friday there ware two shows I had to see. So I went to The Arcade Fire first, and had to skip out early to catch the Andrew Bird Show.

The next day Ike Reilly was in town at the Kitty Cat Klub, and he played a little secret show at the Hexagon Bar (my bar) afterwards. It was pretty cool.

The best concert I've been to was probably the Mark Mallman marathon at the Turf Club last year. He played one song for 53 hours. Here's HowWasTheShow's* account of the show (with pics)

rock rock on indeed.

*howwastheshow.com reviews many of the shows here in the Twin Cities.

Sadly, I have never been to a concert. But I REALLY want to go to the Switchfoot one in Detroit this month.

There's an awesome show coming up on the 29th.

When the proletariat rise from the dead to destroy their former masters in a bloodspattered zombie uprising, it will sound a lot like this. Hell-bent on the reanimation of undead monster kids in every dank basement, club, and house show.

Dead Ramones (members of Strike Anywhere and VCR)
Image
Ramones cover band... you know that's gonna be tight.

Pink Razors (covering Screeching Weasel)
Image
You already know them and love them. Unapologetic pop-punk in the vein of Pinhead Gunpowder and Dillinger4... this halloween, they're nodding their heads to Screeching Weasel... god bless 'em

Wifetime
Image
Unfettered by their recent reunion show, Wifetime continues to honor the worship of Lifetime with thier cover band that will make you feel like a goofy kid with a backpack all over again.

ALL AGES and you get a high five for dressing up in a costume.

Thoughts:
1. What a great idea for a Halloween show. Cover bands are just like people in costumes.
2. VCR and Strike Anywhere are easily my favorite Fist City punk acts. The fact that there's a collaboration between the two is mind-boggling enough, but a Ramones cover band? SDOIJFAOISDHFJAOSID :)!!!!
2. Pink Razors = awesome. Screaching Weasel = really awesome. Once again, SDOIJFAOISDHFJAOSID :)!!!!
3. Lifetime was an awesome band, and from what I hear, the crazies in Wifetime are pretty cool.

Edit: Oh yeah, this is about concerts, not shows.
Well, the last concert I went to was the Operation Ceasefire free concert after the gigantic peace rally two weekends ago in DC.

Hmm...the last concert I saw was in 2003, I believe. My parents had bought tickets to Hootie and the Blowfish and before the group played, there were these people called Cowboy Mouth. That starting group probably made my hearing drop forever. But, Hootie and the Blowfish was good. I have always loved their music since then.

You had tix and you didn't call me?!? I was in Bowling Green (2 hours, at most, away) that summer. I'm highly offended.
Oh, wait, you didn't know me... You're forgiven. RHCP is a band that needs to be seen live to be fully appreciated. I've never seen the Foo Fighters live before, though I hear they are awesome.

Ugh, I just made a big long post about the shows I've been to and it got lost somehow. So here's an unexciting list:
Socail Distortion, Green Day (in 1994!), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N' Roses (the new and not improved), Alkaline Trio (twice!), Me First, The Vandals, Rancid, Bad Religion, Lagwagon, The Damned, Dropkick Murphys, Reggie and the Full Effect (although they were missing a couple of guys, so it was more like the Partial Effect), No Use for a Name, Tiger Army, and that's all I can think of right now.

Well, if we're making a list, here's mine in roughly cronological order:
  • Paul Simon/Brian Wilson
  • They Might Be Giants/Muckafurgason/some other guys
  • The Starting Line/Allister/some other guys
  • The Ataris/Damone/some other guys
  • Good Charlotte/Something Corporate
  • Something Corporate/Yellowcard/The Format
  • Suicide Girls Burlesque Tour (can't remember the names of any of the bands)
  • They Might Be Giants/Common Rotation/Corn Mo
I really need to start writing these things down; my memory is like swiss cheese.

For the record, I went to the Good Charlotte show because my friends wanted to see Something Corporate and bought me a ticket because they needed someone to drive them. We left a couple songs into Good Charlotte's set. Something Corporate is fantastic, though.

Aerosmith in 2002

K-Rockathon last August, or July, whenever it was. It was in the summer, that's all I know.

Yeah, that's a lot, right?

They say that mc chris is going to be in town tomorrow night with the Ergs, but I'm too poor to go. That's a twelve dollar show!
