YAY! I just got my first REAL Credit Card today! Previously, all I ever had were bank cards.

Of course, that's No Thanks to Capital One. Some jerk made a typo and screwed up my credit history! I only got it straightened out recently. Which is why I'm celebrating my acquisition of my new Credit Card!

And what grand frivolous purchases do I plan to make with my new powers? Gas for the truck! And that's it! And I'm only doing that so I can get a fuel discount. :p

And, no, I do not plan on making any contributions to The Lots Of Awexome Stuff For ___{insert name here}___ Fund!

A credit smart person.. WHAT?!?!?

Most people, when they get a credit card, immediately buy all sorts of crap that they can't afford.. For some reason, people don't seem to realize that a credit card isn't "free money". It's more of a short term loan, at best.
People don't look at it that way, and max out 2 or 3 cards and find themselves owing more than they can ever hope to repay, then blame the President, the economy, the credit card companies, the stores, etc. when, more often than not, the blame is theirs and theirs alone.

Why they don't teach financial responsibility/personal finances in high schools is a mystery to me.

Let me rephrase that.. Why they don't make it mandatory in high schools is beyond me.

If they teach it and make it mandatory in your school, your school is awesome.
None of the public schools back home make it mandatory. Most only offer it to the honors students, if at all.

It was mandatory in my High School. I know in NY it is mandatory.

I don't have a credit Card. I just got my debit card, and it's all I need.

That was my philosophy too, Ramrod, until gas became some freaking outrageously high! Then I decided I might better find some way to save some money on it.

You get a discount with your card? That's a sweet deal. I'm gonna call Crapital One and see if they can hook me up with something like that instead of constantly raising my available credit (They need to realize that, just because I have ridiculously high credit limit doesn't mean I'm gonna use it, and if they raise it too high, I may drop them, as it is a liability)
I usually buy EVERYTHING on mine for the airline miles, then pay off the balance as soon as I get the bill.

Mine was a Shell Card. Which means I can use it to pay for Shell gas and get 6% off my fuel. Some platinum cards will give you similar discounts, though.

My intention is to buy my gas on it during the week, then pay it off immediately.

Dang, i might need that. With gas the way it is, any penny I can save will be well worth it.

Please don't mention cruise to me. Our Southern District LCMS Pastor's Conference was supposed to be a cruise, but now, thanks to good ol' Katrina and Rita, it's been cancelled. I know, that might be just whining on my part, especially compared to people who lost homes and such, but I was really looking forward to it. I really had fun on the last one (yes, I've served in the Southern District before, at Immanuel, Bossier City).

I've just taken a step towards full adulthood myself this week by taking out my first car loan. Oh what fun, oh what joy.

If taking on massive amounts of debt equals growing up, I'm all grown up. We just bought a house last week. :)

You are all grown up, but it's not because you took on massive debt. It's because you took on massive debt for something useful.

You mean a $10,000 stereo system and a $15,000 home entertainment system aren't useful?

Only if you put the $10,000 stereo system into a 10 year old, $1500 car, or if you put the home entertainment center into a $6000 mobile home.
