Yes, there is a lottery topic already, but it's old and I didn't know how to bump it properly. So. Anyone play the Powerball lately? The jackpot was the second largest American lottery cash prize in history, $340 million. Interesting factoid: If you knew only one person in Canada, put the names of EVERY Canadian into a giant hat, and pulled one out, it's 2.5 times more likely for you to pick your friend's name with one try than it is to win the Powerball jackpot. Yet someone wins every time. My dad bought 30 tickets. I wonder if he won. |

No one in my family does the lottery, but still $340 million would be pretty good. A little extra cash.
So, what kind of stuff would y'alls do with that kind of money? I'd probably buy my way out of school. |

Actually, if I had that kind of money, the first thing I would do would be to give a lot of it away, big tax deduction. I'd get a campus building, or a running track at a stadium, or something like that named after me. That'd be there after the money was gone, anyway. |

Not a lottery type-person. I treasure the little money I have too much to buy anything that doesn't even give me great winning odds. Everyone in my family seems to feel the same. But my great-grandmother used to buy the Loto (P.R.) every Sunday for a quarter, always getting the same number for her lottery ticket. She never won more than ten dollars.

$360 million, with one lump sum and after taxes only comes out to around $100M. I want to hear the winner complain about the $260M they just lost.

I have $30 on it... I didn't go all crazy like some, though. I drove up to Tennesee and spent $20 on it Tuesday (I randomly waste $20 on one thing or another every week, anyway, so if not powerball, then something else). Out of those 20 plays, I won $50 on multiple wins. I cashed those in Thursday morning, and got my $20 back, leaving $30 on it. Since I got my original money back, if I lose tonight, I don't really lose anything. If nobody hits it tonight, I'm going to head up to Tenn. Tuesday, and buy another $10 or so.. Like I said, I waste $20 or so a week on something dumb anyway, so why not?.. I'm not cashing in savings or anything like that. |

My mom and step-dad went out to DC today to get some tickets. My dad and my uncle went to get some a few days ago as well, I believe. I don't think it's possible to win either way, but if my family were to win, I'd have a few things on my mind on what to buy (If they let me have any money. ).
And, the odds of winning come out to... a great %.000001! Life's great!

I didn't buy a ticket. I need my meger funds for stuff like food. Everyone else I know did buy one or more tickets. If they win, I wish them the best and hope they don't encounter any...accidents.... Actually, I should wait to see if they win before cutting their brake lines. Did I say that out loud? -Krazed Squirell |

So, just because there are long odds doesn't mean there is no shot. Still, I'm not planning to make a cent (unlike some people who are booking trips and stuff, which is nuts). |

That guy could've bought $500...$1,000...his whole life savings worth of tickets, though. But, I agree, everyone has the same, basic chance.

People get so caught up that they spend a lot of money that they can't afford to lose with plans of "paying it back" when they win... |

I saw something saying the winning ticket had been sold in Nebraska. Lucky Nebraska person thingy. First thing I would do (besides collecting the money) is move out of Nebraska.

And to think that the ones not winning aren't usualy very rich people. If you win you're basicly taking money from people who (well, not all of them, but some) might need the money better than you. I once taught about if it would be possible to make a "lottery" where the poorest person always win. But I realised that then only the poorest people would play, since they're the only ones likely to win, and that would just make things worse. |

No, if you win, you are not taking money from people who need it... People who "need" money shouldn't be playing the lottery. If you have trouble paying your bills and putting food on your table, it seems to me that throwing money away is the last thing you should do. |

I'm too young to play the lottery. But when I hit the pick 6, we are gonna add a room on to the trailer so I don't have to sleep with Jim's daddy no more.
