hey you guys, once again my outdated 2 month old stuff isnt working! heres my latest problem, its with my ps2.

my ps2 has an internet modem. i have HighSpeed Road Runner from Time Warner, and its on my PC by means of a wireless link. both the PC and the ps2 have a Ethernet port for it. my new game that i bought requires a Broadband internet service, but Road Runner is better, its a Cable thing, and as i said its coming into my PC through wireless linking. now, my problem is this, since i dont have an ethernet thing on the wall to plug the ps2 into, i asked a CompUSA guy to help me. he says just plug the other end of the cable into the Computer and it should go through the wireless connection and into the router sending me off to the internet. but it hasnt. i have chosen every setting on my ps2 i can, but it never works. my internet is Always on, meaning that i could click out of my web browser and still be online. now to something i dont understand....... when the ethernet cable is plugged into the ps2 and the PC and i try to test the connection with the ps2, it always tests the connection for a long time, then ending in a message that says "Error- A Timeout Error has occured.". and now im going what the crap? so... can anybody help me with this problem?

First of all, I would call RoadRunner. They're used to dealing with this stuff.

Second of all, have you tried the popular search engine Google?

Anyway, I can see what the problem is. You can't connect the PS2 directly to your compy, just like you can't connect two compies directly with a standard network cable. You need to have either a crossover cable or you need to have a hub in between. A four-port hub at Best Buy is pretty cheap; so are crossover cables, but they can be tricky to find. Anyway, that's your first problem. Once you get that taken care of, you're going to have to do some configuration on the compy, probably in the Internet Connection Sharing department. There's a good guide to this at Practically Networked. It'll require some reading and a lot of patience, but that's the only way to do it. Good luck!

A hub lets you connect one computer (or PS2, or Xbox, or toaster) to another, or multiple computers to a cable/DLS modem.

Pretty much the only variable when it comes to hubs is how many ports there are and whether they're 10baseT or 100baseT (the latter being ten times faster; unless it's much more expensive, go for 10/100, i.e. one that does both). If you're running a LAN party you might need a 24-port hub or two, but if you're just networking a computer or two and a PS2, four ports is plenty. NewEgg has a good selection.

(Oh, in browsing Newegg I turned up a lot of USB hubs, which are a different animal entirely. You're looking for network hubs. Sorry I didn't mention that initially.)

I have the solution to all your PS2 problems: hock it and buy a GameCube.

It solves everything!

Ok, well... I'd say the problem is that you have a PS2 in your house. Go throw it into the street and then go play some GameCube- or better yet, N64!

Or you could throw all video game systems out and do something productive, like read. Or watch Back to the Future.

I don't play videro games.
