http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407989/ What do you guys think? Excited? Outraged? Skeptical? Post your comments about it here. Me, I think it's great. John Woo sounds very committed to staying true to the videogame series. All I'm hoping for is that they don't cast Angelina Jolie as Samus. |

The actress they cast will make or break this movie. |

Oh, I was hoping we had some more news, like who was cast. This will probably suck like all other video game movies. At least it doesn't have Uwe Boll at the helm.

"Status Updated: 16 April 2004". Well, it isn't a hoax, but you do have a good point in pointing out the last status update-since then, Woo's rights to the movie have expired-oh, crap, never mind, that was Zide/Perry that lost it. *sigh* The last thing the Metroid series needs is a bunch of casual gamers coming out from the cinema, picking up Prime or Echoes, complaining it's too hard and spurring Nintendo to water it down. The last thing the Metroid series needs to be is a mainstream series. I wouldn't mind if it appealed to the masses as it is... but at present rate, to become a mainstream series, it'd have to undergo some changes. And oh, they'd better not cast Jolie as Samus. From what I've seen, she can't act. For another, putting her in would cheapen the whole affair, as well as add to the mainstream effect. Three, and I know I'm the only straight guy who thinks this, but she is utterly disturbing in her appearance. I doubt I could stand to leave my eyes open. |

Like Sakura said, whoever plays lead is going to be the decieding factor for this movie. I know nobody will agree, but if they got the Chick that played Dona from "That Seventies show", it'd be awesome. |

I don't think its going to happen, and I really hope it doesn't. When you get right down to it, Metroid wouldn't really be good as a movie. There's no dialougue or explanations, all it would be is action. In my opinion, there's no way to make it good without compromising the game. |

Well they're gonna have to really try hard to make this one good, considering that the Super Mario Bros. movie did about as well as Home Alone 4. |

The movie is actually going to be a prequel to the games, about Samus' planet being destroyed by the space pirates and then her growing up as an orphan among the Chozo. There probably won't be any "game scenes" until the end, where she'll probably fight Ridley or something. |

I heard something about Samus being played by Uma Thurman. I dunno if that would be good or not... Uma Thurman scares me. |

Sadly, I agree. But here's the question. What sucks more, a movie based on a game, or a game based on a movie? I think movie based on game, unless you're talking about the Super Mario Bros. movie. That thing pwned.
Yeah, I don't have too many expectations for this. |

Nonono. That's a hoax pertaining to Uwe Boll's making of the movie, which isn't actually happening. It's no lie that Woo's got the rights. |

Yeah, I know. I was just searching internet to try to find out more about this, and that hoax is the page I found. At first I thought it was a more up to date report, since it came one year later. Modestly funny picture, though. Still, like everyone said, how can they make a game like metroid into a game? Actually, I guess it does have some potential for fleshing out the story and stuff. Could be fun

Personally, I think that if it were done, it could actually be done pretty well. Don't know if I'd trust Woo with it though. If I were in control... I'd scrap the movie idea and go more for a series of short animations a la Star Wars: Clone Wars. Or longer ones sort of like Samruai Jack: lots of action, but also a very clear and apparent story with several layers. Heck, I'd just love to have Genndy Tartarovsky (Is that how you spell his name? Doubt it, but it's the best I can do) working on it. He knows how to do an action cartoon, and who knows--might even be good for an action movie. My problem with the actress, aside from whether or not she could act right, would be the voice. I have a very specific voice in my head for all of my favorite never-speak characters, and Samus is one of them. It couldn't be too high-pitched or too deep, but very level, cool, and intellectual. I've always wondered, though, if she has an accent of any kind. Her name sounds really Irish... ...But, that's just me being weird. |
