Even though my team is out of the playoffs (Eagles - the less said about everything that's gone on with them, the better), I think the matchups this year look like they have more potential to be the most consistently exciting in recent years. Here's the way I see it going. What are your predictions?

WILD CARD
Bengals over Steelers, 31-28: The result I'm least confident about - this one could seriously go either way. Like everyone else has said, it all depends on whether Cincinnati can stop the run and force turnovers.
Patriots over Jaguars, 24-17: How can a result that sets up another Patriots/Colts playoff rematch not happen? I bet this game will be closer than some people think, though.
Giants over Panthers, 27-20: Another game I'm not so confident about. For all I know, Eli Manning could mess this up and throw another critical late-game interception.
Bucs over Redskins, 37-20: Even though they've won their last several games, I'm still not that convinced about how good Washington is.

DIVISIONAL ROUND
Colts over Patriots, 28-17: Yeah, New England's playing great lately, but as far as I'm concerned, the SD game was a fluke loss for the Colts that easily happens to any team on a long winning streak. Indy's still the team to beat, and this time they're at home with a much better defense. People take long 'trends' way too seriously, as if they're always going to stay the same.
Bengals over Broncos, 24-21: Are the people of Cincy already starting work on statues for Marvin Lewis and Carson Palmer?
Seahawks over Giants, 30-10: Somehow, I don't think this is going to come down to Jay Feely missing three-potential game winning field goals again.
Bucs over Bears, 16-13: This would probably be the defensive matchup in the playoffs if it actually happens.

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Colts over Bengals, 41-27: Offensive fireworks!
Seahawks over Bucs, 28-7: Seattle is still the only NFC team that really impresses me thus far.

SUPER BOWL
Colts over Seahawks, 38-31: As predictable and boring as this is, I'd be extremely surprised if this matchup doesn't happen.

I pretty much agree with everything you just said..
EXCEPT...
I don't see Cincy beating the Steelers or the Broncos... I see the Broncos beating the Steelers.

I don't see the Bucs winning anywhere in the playoffs. I see the Bears beating the Redskins. THEN I see Shawn Alexander running all over Chicago (I know they're good, but they aren't "stop Shawn Alexander" good.)

That's just me, though.


I like the fireworks you predicted in the Super Bowl. I think it MIGHT have even more scoring than that. Either way, I'm hoping for a game worth watching. It'd be nice if it was the Favre-Manning shootout that happened when the Packers played the Colts last season. That was some good television.

Although the Indy game does scare me. I was hoping the Pats would end up the third seed so they wouldn't have to play Indy until the AFC Championship at least.

Nope, he didn't bump his head.. Colts are the team this year. Pats are like USC, people give them credit for past good, ignoring shortcomings.

Besides, the Colts have the best quarterback since Harbaugh, maybe since the greatest QB to ever play the game (although Unitas played for the Baltimore Colts). They're just too much team for their opponents. With Dungy back at 100%, not only do they have one of the best teams ever, they also have one of the best coaches in the NFL.

Boy, Egg, I was ready to give you the award for most best thread until I saw this:

Although the Bengals are good, and they split the season series, the Steelers are too good to be beaten by the Bengals in the playoffs. Plus, the Steelers have won four straight games, and the Bengals are coming into the playoffs after losing two games that they should have won. Anyway, here's my predictions:

Wild Card:
Steelers over Bengals, 28 to 17: Despite the fact that their not as good as last year, the Steelers are still a good team, and the Bengals have no momentum going.

Patriots over Jaguars, 24 to 10: I really hate the Patriots, but they've won their past few games, they're good in the playoffs, and I don't think the Jaguars are really that good.

Panthers over Giants, 35 to 31: I think the Panthers are a lot better that some people give them credit for, and I think that with the help of Steve Smith having a good game, the Panthers will win.

Buccaneers over Redskins, 17 to 13: The Redskins are playing really well right now, but I think the Buccaneers are going to be able to shut down the Redskins for the most part, and they'll win.

Divisional Playoffs:
Colts over Steelers, 28 to 20: Now, the Colts beat the Steelers pretty bad in the regular season, but I think the Steelers will do well in the playoffs, and I think they're good enough to beat the Colts, but I don't see it happening.

Broncos over Patriots, 21 to 14: The Broncos have had a good season, and I think that the Patriots aren't good enough this season to beat them.

Seahawks over Panthers, 31 to 21: Ah, a showdown between my 2nd and 3rd favorite teams (1. Steelers, 2. Panthers, 3. Seahawks), and although I think the Panthers have a good shot, the Seahawks are playing so well, that I think they'll win. Especially with Shawn Alexander playing the way he has been.

Buccaneers over Bears, 20 to 16: Like Egg said, a great defensive showdown, but because the Bears don't have a very reliable quarterback, I think the Bucs will pull it out.

Conference Championships:
Colts over Broncos, 38 to 10: I don't see this as being much of a game, the Colts have a great passing attack and a pretty good defense, and I don't think the Broncos can keep up with them.

Seahawks over Buccaneers, 31 to 20: As I said, the Seahawks are just playing so well, I don't think the Bucs can win.


SUPER BOWL: Yes, like pretty much everyone else in the world, I am predicting the obvious and most likely to happen matchup, but with one major difference. I see the Seahawks winning.

Seahawks over Colts, 28 to 24: I smell an upset in the making. I know that the Colts have played really well, but I think that the Seahawks' defense can stop Edgerrin James and contain Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne enough to give their offense an opportunity to win the game. The key to this game however, is Shawn Alexander. Without him playing at his best, the Seahawks don't have a shot, because their passing game isn't that great, but I think Shawn Alexander will have a great game, and the 'Hawks will pull the upset.

AFC Wild Card:

Steelers def. Bengals: 31-21: The Bengals did a great job reaching the playoffs for the first time in 15 years, but this year is not yours.
Pats def. Jaguars: 24-17: Going against the Pats in this one is dumb.

NFC Wild Card:

Giants def. Panthers: 35- 24: Tiki Barber will be like Hulkamania, Runnin' wild on you.
Tampa Bay def. Washington: 9-6: Two teams with amazing defenses, this will be a low scoring affair.

AFC Divisional

Colts def. Steelers 31-14: The Colts are unstoppable at home, the Pittsburgh doesn't stand a chance

Pats def. Broncos: 27-21: The Broncos haven't won a playoof game since John Elway retired, and that treant will continue

NFC Divisional:

Giants def. Seahawks 38-35: The G-Men went head to head with the Seahawks earlier in the season and almost won. They will finish the job this time around

Bears def. Bucs: 17-10: Everybody who has picked Tampa to win this you all forgot one key stat: Tampa has only won once in cold temperatures. When the thremometers go below 40, so will the Bucs

AFC Championship:

Colts def. Pats: 31-27: The Colts will finally beat the Pats, in the playoffs.

NFC Championship:

Giants def. Bears: 21-17: The Giants D will overwhelm the Bears offense in this one.

Super Bowl XL:

Colts over Giants: 42-39: Peyton will beat Eli in the First Battle of the Mannings.

But yeah, you're right - I did forget about the cold temperature thing, though that Eagles game is probably what made me forget. I could go back and change it, but... nah, I'll still stay with that Bucs over Bears pick. Trends change. Like Colts vs. Patriots.

Oh, man! No one expected the Steelers to win, BUT THEY WON!!! They pulled the upset! Everyone thought the Colts were gonna win the Super Bowl, BUT THAT"S NOT GONNA HAPPEN, THANKS TO THE STEELERS!!! THE STEELERS ARE THE GREATEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, my predictions are the Steelers winning the AFC championship game, and the Panthers winning the NFC Championship game. And then who's gonna win the Super Bowl?

Actually, the Steelers pulled it off not by winning, but by the Colts (Vanderjagt) losing. They really shouldn't have won the game the way they ended it. They got overconfident, and, like every game that Bill Cowher has coached in the postseason, they got by with a little dash of luck. Yet they can't make any mistakes and expect to beat Plummer and the Broncos. I'll tell you now, Polumalu will be exposed over and over in the game for being a poor tackler. He likes to run into people, not wrap them up. That won't work on Ron Dayne or the huge Bronco O-line. Once again, the Steelers will lose in the AFC Championship game because they believe too much that they are a lock for the Super Bowl, even before they actually get there. Anyway, my score: Broncos 24, Steelers 16

In addition, what really gets me is that everyone rags on the Eagles for not winning the Super Bowl and losing 3 straight NFC championships, but here's something to chew on...."In 13 seasons under Cowher, the Steelers have earned nine postseason berths, captured eight division titles, advanced to five AFC Championship games and made one Super Bowl appearance." How many Super Bowl wins? None. Quit ragging on the Eagles.

Now about those NFC teams. This one is a close call. Yeah, the Seahawks are very very good on offense. But against a very good defense from Washington, they showed some signs of slowing down. But then again, that was without the league's MVP, Shawn Alexander. But even more again (that make sense?), the Redskins had the worst postseason offense since...well, ever. The Panthers have a great downfield offense, and with Steve Smith improving every game, the Seahawks secondary will have a difficult time covering him. Let's not forget Ricky Proehl...he's prooty darn good too in the middle of the field against the small linebackers of Seattle. My prediction: Seahawks 31, Panthers 21 only because it's at home for Seattle.

Well, there you have it. Seattle and Denver going to Detroit. Pretty good teams that I like very much. If that does come true, it will be an amazing Super Bowl...they basically are mirror images of each other. Just gotta wait till next year, when the Eagles and Steelers play in the first ever Pennsylvania Super Bowl. Oh, and Penn State beats USC in the National Championship game.

Yes!! Exactly!! Also another thing to consider: The last three teams before the Eagles to lose either three consecutive NFC Championships, or three in a four year period, were the 49ers, Cowboys, and Rams, and the last time I checked, all three of those teams turned out fine afterwards. It was extremely irritating how everyone acted like it was this unprecedented display of choking by the Eagles or something. Give 'em time - 2004-05 was probably the only recent season they were arguably good enough to have won the whole thing anyways, and even then, the Pats were probably a better team. *grinds teeth*

Anyway, I really, really wanted the Colts to go all the way more than any other team left by far, and it was especially a shame that they didn't capitalize on the Bettis fumble. Everyone rags on Peyton Manning for not winning the big one, but I think he showed a lot of heart going for it on 4th and 2 in his own territory and calling off the punt team, plus making the charge to lead them back all the way down from 21-3. I think both he and Tony Dungy really deserve a title. But since they didn't get it this time, I'm slightly pulling for the Seahawks, I guess.

My conference championship predictions:
Seahawks 31, Panthers 21
Broncos 28, Steelers 24

Heh, you want to rag on a team for blown chances? Rag on the Buffalo Bills.. 4 straight super bowl appearances in the early 90's with no Lombardi trophy to show for it.

I always take time out of my life to remind Bills fans where their team is. I can make fun of them because the Giants beat them in one of those Super Bowls.

Bills Fan: This Bills went to 4 straight Super Bowls. The Giants have only been to three.
Me: Yeah, but we won two of them. One of them over the Bills, you remember Steve Norwood. Not to mention, it only matters if you win the Super Bowl.

Well, now that the Colts absolutely botched it, and I lost all of my money(Just kidding), I think the Seahawks and Broncos will play in the Super Bowl with the Broncos winning 34 - 21.

I don't think it's fair to say that the Steelers didn't pull it off by winning, admittidly they didn't play too well in the fourth quarter, but that's just because the Colts were really good. The Steelers played a great game, so they deserved to win. The Colts played really well in the end though, and I give them a lot a credit. But what makes you think that the Steelers believe they're a lock for the Super Bowl? You don't really have any proof for that. Anyway, I think the Steelers will win against the Broncos because they've been playing really well lately, winning they're last five. Also, the Broncos rely a lot on their running game with Tatum Bell, Mike Anderson, and Ron Dayne, and the Steelers have a great rush defense, so they should win.

But you're right, the Eagles haven't done anything worthy of ragging.

I don't quite see it that way. In three out of those four Super Bowls, they faced a far better team and got blown out, and the only one they probably should have won was the Giants game. Even though they lost them all, I think getting to four of them in a row is an incredible accomplishment. Thank God the Eagles avoided the "JV Bills" tag on them by beating the Falcons last year. They probably would have deserved that tag if they hadn't.
