I need a place to rant.

At another forum I'm going to, a fight has broken out. We recently made some rules that people need to spell words correctly (as in no letters replacing whole words) and type normal sentences. Not a hard rule to follow, right? Well, there's one user there who has suddenly decided to type in stanzas instead of sentences. We told her to please follow the rules, and she got all mad about it, saying she should be able to type however the heck she pleases. And we would let her if
she'd stop
typing like
this all the
time.

So we started editing her posts to make them normal sentences. We got tired of having to do this, and told her we would just delete her posts if she kept typing the way she was. Then her friend came into the argument, saying we're all being drama queens about it, and that we should get rid of our "stupid" rule.

The reason why we made the rule is that certain users type like little grade school children. A lot of them make posts that are near impossible to read, and besides, when a group of people type like that it makes us all look unintelligent. The fight is getting to the point where I want to leave the forum. It's becoming a high school, where users who are popular amongst the majority are treated better than the less popular ones. Even though I'm a mod there, it's like I have no power. If I edit a post or ban a member, another mod who is friends with the user will just come and undo it.

I came here to rant because this is the only forum where I feel welcome.

Take it up with an admin. If she's not following the rules and some mod is un banning her just because they're friends they both should be banned.

I can see how it can get annoying, but if your superiors (ie admins) say its OK, then its OK. Now, if its not, she should be banned (cause she sounds like an annoying crotch anyways), you cant change everything

well, as a MOD, cant you ban certain names? if you could, then ban her, then ban her name. problem solved. but if not then...have a debate with the Admins

Well, contact the founder. If they're freinds with them too, I'd suggest either:

A.) Banning as many people as possible and spamming all over, create more accounts and spam with them and just keep going till no one cares anymore.

B.) Apologize and try to live with it.

I'd go with A, but I'm a bit of a nut job.

Well, if one of the admins is her friend, well sorry man looks like you are SOL. I dont see how just one (pretty trivial) writing style will really bring down your whole forum. Maybe you can just live with it? I dunno

One admin is her friend and is taking sides with her and insulting the rest of us, another admin wants to ban the girl typing in stanzas, another wants to ban her too but is trying to find another way to end the arugement.

The only thing that gets me mad is that this girl doesn't need to follow rules just because she popular on the board, and certain admins and mods will allow her to do anything. I'm sure if I was the one typing like that, I'd be told to stop and would be banned if I didn't.

Well, if that's true then I'd suggest leaving or dealing with it. Forums that are run like school grounds are usually pretty cruddy.

Account deletion and an IP ban solve all problems. They're both permanent changes which can be done by a willing admin to wipe the rupe breaker(s) off the map.

Of course, in this situation, there may be a bit of a problem with that. Admins banning Admins never ends well. Trust me, I know

But if possible, you'll want to gather as many PM in her inbox as possible and guilt her in to shutting up. If that doesn't work and the admins and mods are unwilling to ban such a rulebreaker, the board's rules need an updating.

That was your first mistake. Rules are good--we have our share here and enforce them fiercely--but as soon as you start making rules to cover every little eventuality, people will start going out of their way to break them. That's why we have a relatively short set of rules and have only added two rules since our forum started. It's far better to institute a "Rule #1" like we have and use that to deal with the little things that come up. Concerning spelling and grammar, I've found that our users are pretty good at managing that. If someone comes along who can't be bothered the spell out "you" and "are," the community tends to put on some peer pressure that works pretty well.
