here we go, i figured this topic needed to be addressed, cuz i'm obsessed with dinosaurs. they deserve a topic. so, anything relating to dinos post here. i might throw some news stuff out there about discoveries and such eventually as well.

lets start by talkin about your favorite dino. mine is Troodon, because he's the smartest dino and those big eyes make him look cute, but he's also a meat eater so he can defend himself... and still be cute.

Yes!

Was this partially my fault?

Well, anyway, I already said that I love Spinosaurus. I love that sail on its back. It's so cool. O_o I also like Dimetrodon for that reason and a little more, although it wasn't a dinosaur. Andandand, the shape of its head. There's something about the shape of its head. Plus, it just looks ferocious. The whole look is awesome.

yeah its all your fault.

hey have u seen that model of what Troodon would look like if it was allowed to evolve till today? it creeps me out

Ha, cool.

Yeah, I found it in a book somewhere in 4th grade. It was really humanoid and had no tail, right? I can't exactly remember. I just remember it was in a book all about Troodons. My library had a series of books each focusing on one dinosaur. It was awesome.

Bill Nye! Ha, I was estatic when that episode came out. Bill Nye pwns.

I seem to remember watching maybe the last half of The Magic Schoolbus where they had dinosaurs. Was it about some stegosaurus and flowers, or something? It was so long ago.
I have a ton of dinosaur videos, too. Like a couple Paleoworlds and random other things.

I also watch the Discovery Channel in hopes they'll play Walking with Dinosaurs again. That was cool.

I watched Jurassic Park today, for the first time in ages. Had to dig out my VHS player, cuz I don't have the DVD for it. Just felt like goin back to the good old days of my youth, with a primo dinosaur flick.

I'm a fan of the raptor fellows.

i like the raptors in the 3rd movie... i got the 3 dvd set of those too :D :eekdance:

Post subject:

Eh, well, I'll look for both. =P

Mm, yes. The raptors from the Jurassic Park movies were pretty cool, even if a bit innacurate. Still a cool movie. I'm reading the book right now.

Do you ever start ranting at someone when they say something's a dinosaur when it really wasn't? Like, with Pleasiosaurus or the different Pteranodons. I guess it's sorta understandable, but still. It's vexing. My last speech in my Speech class was a rant about dinosaurs and mistakes people make about them. =P It was a funny rant, though. I love making people laugh.

Author:  Jenny [ Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:15 am ]
Post subject:

oh i rant a lot about dinos... i get all mad when people mispronounce names and when they confuse avisaurs with dinosaurs, and aquatic reptiles with dinos... i did a big ol' speech on how dinosaurs probably evolved into birds about a year ago when i had speech class.

those jurassic park raptors actually wouldn't be inaccurate if they had called them "Utahraptors" instead of velociraptors, because Utahraptors were about that size. Otherwise, yeah... they aren't exactly true velociraptors...

Has anyone read the book "Raptor Red" by Robert T. Bakker? It's the friggen best dino novel ever written.

Author:  Pepperochu Pepperotyugh [ Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:20 am ]
Post subject:

Ha, I think dinos evolved into birds, too. It was a small part of my speech. I thought so ever since I saw that one short cartoon about a dinosaur wanting to fly, so he jumps off a cliff every day to try to get in the air, when finally one day he grows wings. (or something like that) Then I found out the research that backs that up a little later down the line.

And, yeah. Agree'd on the Utahraptor thing.

Haven't heard of that book. What's it about?

Author:  Jenny [ Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:22 am ]
Post subject:

its a fiction, written from the eyes of a female utahraptor. like you're in the utahraptor's head throughout the book, and its really awesome. based on all this scientific research, but still an intense, action packed book.

Post subject:

Oh, that sounds totally like something I'd want to read. Must... find.

Whenever I go to book places, the only dinosaur books I see are plain informational or kiddie books, though. I guess I got lucky when I found Jurassic Park. =P Any other cool dinosaur books you know about?

ummm... there is one called "Dinosaur Summer" about a kid who goes on an expedition with the National Geographic crew to the lost world plateau. that was pretty sweet. i forget the author, but you should be able to find it. i just finished that one a week ago, and it kept me awake till 5 in the morning reading the last few chapters. it was intense.

Cool, cool. I'll look out for that, too.

Ever see that Before the Dinosaurs thing? I know this topic is for dinosaurs, buuuut... that thing was awesome. I loved seeing the Dimetrodon part. My brother and I were watching it. Before they named it, I shouted "Dimetrodon!". My brother looked at me like "Nerd". ¬_¬

walking with prehistoric beasts, you mean? i have that recorded on VHS offa tv i think... wait, or do i have the DVD of that too??? hmmm... yeh, that was a good one too. I remember there was a dimetrodon in there, so thats what i thought you meant.

whenever i see a dinosaur in a movie (like king kong) i always name it off. its a bad habit i have that annoys my friends. i do it with cars that i like too.

Me: *looks out the window of my car while driving* Ooo, a Toyota Celica... is that a Subaru Baja? Never seen that color

Friend: Pay attention to the freaking road, you're crossing the center line!@!!

Actually, there was a special called Before the Dinosaurs that came on kinda recently, but I think I saw Walking with Prehistoric Beasts, too. Or at least part of it.

Ha, I tend to name off dinosaurs everywhere, too, although usually in my head. None of my non-online friends are really very dinosaur-savvy.

I don't know jack about cars. =P But I do that with mythical beasts, too. And sometimes constellations.

i don't know anything about cars but their names :P i just think they are cool. i wanna get a delorean (back to the future car) someday... and i have a soft spot for 1986 Dodge Colt DL wagons.

steering back to topic sorta, i do that with mythological critters also. especially ones that are in my D&D monster manual that i read religiously :P

uh... so yeah. thats not really dinosaurs related but... mkay. toastpainting my own topic (heh, deja vu)

I want an old junker truck. I'm not going to be the victim of auto-theft. xD
(But really, I don't care. I don't even have a car right now, or a license)

Anyway, DINOSAURS. Um. I have some old dinosaur shirts that don't fit me anymore that I refuse to give away. o_O

Uh. Yeah. I gotta go eat food. I'll be back sometime in the future.

I don't know a lot about dinosaurs, but I really like them. I mean, they're animals, so I have to like them!

My favorite dino/water reptile thingie is that specie that looks like nessie. Long neck with flippers. My favorite exstinct (spelling?) animals are the quagga, the elephant bird and the megaladapis. But those all died recently, human's fault.

I saw the Disney movie 'Dinosaurs', but I didn't really like it. I mean, the graphics were good, I the story wasn't that interesting. A Iguanodon raised by sifakas? Wha? They call them 'primitive monkeys', but everyone sees that those are sifakas, still alive lemurs, not primitive at all. But maybe I should watch it again, the last time was five years ago.
I also saw 'Walking with dinosaurs, that was great.

When I was seven, I made up a dinosaur character, named Dino. (original, isn't it?) (should be pronounced in the Dutch way, like Dee-noh)
He doesn't look like a real dinosaur, I never used a real one to refer to. And, I was seven. I mean, seriously.
(I am now looking up old pics I made when I was seven years old... prepare... :P)

Edit:

Bwahahahahaha...ha. They were even funnier than I thought they would be. But some of them are okay, especially if I think of my age back than.

First Dino drawing! (7)
MS paint colors... (8)
Kroko (10)
Whee! (10)
Dino on a rock! (10)
This the way I use to draw him. (animation) (11)
Another animation thingie. (11)
Ptera (11)
Turtl (11)
French notebook (12)
Dromo (12)
Dromo (12)
Aww... (12)
Snaky (12)
Tricey (12)
Iggy (Only 'real' dinosaur, okapi striped) (13)

And finally:

I still like this one. (12)

Okay, back to real dinosaurs :P I once saw a skeleton of an Argentinosaurus. Only his head, neck and one leg fitted in the room. Those were huge.

Yeah, disney's "Dinosaur" was basically just a ripoff or "The Land Before Time" if you ask me. I mean, the similarities between "Nesting Grounds" and "The Great Valley" were just way too much. And that whole lemur thing... not buying it either. I agree that the graphics were good but that is about it. Walking With Dinosaurs definitely PWNS all dinosaur related things on TV.

THANK YOU.

I tried to tell my brothers that and they just blew me off. Still, it was a fun movie to look at, and the opening sequence is still one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

And Walking with Dinosaurs = love. I got it for x-mas one year and I watch it every so often.

I used to loooove dinosaurs when I was a little kid, right around the time the first Jurassic Park came out. They were probably my first ever nerdy obsession. ^_^

My favourite prehistoric beast is no dinosaur, though. It's this little guy:

Archaeopteryx. Look at him. He'll get ya.
